  • Welcome Thank you for purchasing this Mio. This manual has been prepared to guide you through the operation of your Mio from first set-up through to continuous use. Please read this manual carefully before using your Mio for the first time. Keep this manual in a safe place and use as your first point of reference.

  • How do I get started?

    The first time you use your Mio it may take several minutes to establish a GPS connection.

    To get started for the first time, complete the following steps:

    1. Position your Mio in your vehicle Follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide.

    WARNING: For your safety, enter destination information before you start a journey. Do not enter a destination while driving.

    2. Turn on your Mio. 3. Tap Navigation on the System Main Menu

    screen.

    4. When prompted, read the Safety information carefully and tap Accept to confirm the message.

    5. The Navigation will start and the Map screen will display.

    How do I quit the Navigation?

    To quit the Navigation, tap at the bottom status bar and tap .

  • Navigating on the screen To operate your Mio, touch the screen with your fingertip. You can perform the following actions:

    Guide Task Description

    Selecting an Item Tap the screen surface once with a fingertip to select a button or a map icon, etc.

    Selecting a Point on the Map

    Touch and continue pressing a point on the map with a fingertip to select that point. A Map Selection Point icon will appear on that spot.

    Panning the Map Move or quickly brush your fingertip across the screen surface to pan accross the map.

    Scrolling a Page Move or quickly brush your fingertip up and down the

    screen surface to scroll up and down a page.

  • Map Screen The Map screen is the starting place when you start the Navigation. If you have a GPS fix, your current location will be displayed on the map

    with an icon of .

    How do I use the status bar? The Status bar located at the bottom of the screen allows you to perform the following tasks:

    Search Search for places, areas and streets to help plan your

    route.

    Volume Set to increase or decrease the volume.

    Current Speed indicator

    Indicate your vehicle's current speed.

    Clock indicator Indicate the current time.

    Battery level Display the current battery level of your Mio.

    Last Page Accessed Take you instantly back to the previously accessed page.

    Main Menu Enter an address for your destination and customize

    preferences.

    How do I use Smart Display menu on map?

    Tap Smart Dsiplay ( ) button on the map screen to access the Smart Display menu and the following options will be displayed:

    Icon Item Description

    Panning/ Rotation mode

    Toggle between Panning and Rotation modes.

    2D/3D map view Toggle between the two-dimensional (aerial) map view

    and the three-dimensional (depth-perspective) map view.

    North Up map view Tap to always display north on top of the map screen.

    Pin-point Location Pin-point a location on the map screen to display the

    location details of that selected location.

  • How do I zoom in/out the map?

    Tap Smart Zoom ( ) button once to access the basic Zoom In / Zoom Out.

    To zoom out, tap . To zoom in, tap .

    How do I use Multi-zoom menu?

    Tap Smart Zoom ( ) button twice to access the Multi-zoom menu.

    You need to have a GPS fix before using this feature.

    Icon Item Description

    Block View /Preset 1 Enlarge the 3D map view of a block around your current

    GPS location, or display a preset zoom view if you have set one. (See later section for details.)

    Area View/ Preset 2 Enlarge the 3D map view of an area, or neighborhood

    around your current GPS location, or display a preset zoom view if you have set one. (See later section for details.)

  • Icon Item Description

    City View / Preset 3 Display a broad overview around your current GPS location.

    You will see the entire city, town or village and its surrounding settlements, or display a preset zoom view if you have set one. (See later section for details.)

    3D/2D Auto Zoom It allows you to switch automatically to a 2D aerial view

    when you approach a large intersection or roundabout, and then switch back to the 3D view once you have passed it.

    How do I create Smart Zoom presets? You can create up to three custom View Presets.

    1. In the Map screen, zoom, tilt and pan the map view to your liking.

    2. Tap Smart Zoom ( ) button twice to access the Multi-zoom Menu.

    3. Tap and hold one of the Multi-zoom buttons ( , or ) for a few seconds.

    4. When a message appears at the bottom,

    tap to confirm.

    How do I restore to default views? To restore to the default views:

    1. Tap on the Main menu. 2. On the Settings screen, tap Restore Defaults.

  • 3. When a message appears, tap Yes. The map views and all other settings will be restored to the factory default settings.

    How do I adjust the volume?

    Tap on the status bar and the volume track bar will be displayed.

    Complete the following:

    If you want to Then

    increase the volume, drag the button to the right.

    decrease the volume drag the button to the left.

    mute drag the button to the very end on the left hand side.

    To quit the volume track bar, tap .

  • Main Menu The Main Menu allows you to customize your Mio, manage trip, view saved locations or recently used locations, and so on.

    The Main Menu can be accessed by tapping

    on the status bar.

    To go back to the map screen, tap .

    Icon Item Description

    Take me home Navigate to your home address.

    You need to set an address as home first.

    Route Manage your trip with multiple waypoints.

    Favorites Access your saved locations.

    History Your Mio will automatically save the recently visited

    locations for later use.

    Settings Configure your Mio to enhance your navigation experience.

    How do I return to Main Menu?

    You can return to the Main Menu at any time by tapping on the status bar.

  • How do I use the Keyboard screen?

    Tap and the Keyboard screen will be displayed where you can enter text to search for a street name, POI or Longitude/Latitude.

    How do I enter characters/numbers?

    To select a character, tap the character. To enter numbers or symbols, tap . To switch back, tap . To switch to small or capital letters, tap . To switch to Arabic keyboard, tap .

    You can tap Keyboards to add more than one language keyboard.

    To delete a character, tap . Tap to delete the entire text.

  • How do I go from A-B?

    WARNING: For your safety, enter destination information before you start a journey. Do not enter a destination while driving.

    There are several ways to select your destination.

    Using Quick Search (See later section for details.) Using Favorites ( ) if you have saved a location before. (See How do I save a

    location as Favorites or Home? on page 27.)

    Using History ( ) if you have navigated to a location before. (See How do I navigate to a recent place? on page 31.)

    Tap to directly navigate to your home if you have set an address as Home. (See How do I save a location as Favorites or Home? on page 27.)

    Tap and pin-point a location on the map. How do I use Quick Search? The Quick Search allows you to search the location easily.

    1. Tap on the status bar.

  • 2. You can do the followings to define your search criteria:

    Tap to select a country. Tap to enter a city name. Tap to select your search category. The options are All, Streets, POIs

    and Lon/Lat.

    Tap one of the input columns if the keyboard is not present.

    3. Tap to enter a keyword, street name, POI or longitude/latitude coordinates.

    4. Tap Search. A list of search results will display.

    To quit the keyboard screen, tap .

    How do I plan my first trip? After searching an address (or a POI), tap the selected location to go to Location Details screen. You can tap Navigate To to calculate a route and start navigating from your current GPS position.

    With the selected location, you can also do the following:

  • Depending on how you define the location, the items available for selection on the Location Details screen might vary.

    If you want to Then

    view the location on the map screen tap to display the location on the Map screen. See How do I preview the destination on map? below .

    calculate a route and start navigating from your current GPS position,

    tap Navigate To.

    set the location as start , tap Set as Start.

    find the POIs near the location, tap Find Closest POI. The POIs nearby will be displayed.

    save the location as a favorite tap Add to Favorites. The location will be saved in Favorites.

    save the location as Home tap Set as Home. The location will be saved as Home.

    How do I preview the destination on map? You can preview the destination on map to learn more about the area nearby. From the Location Details screen, tap the button to display the preview map as below.

    Tap the name on the map to go back to the Location Details screen.

  • Tapping anywhere on the map, the name will turn into an icon ( ). Tapping the icon again, it shows the name again.

    On the destination preview map, you can:

    Tap / button to zoom in/out the map.

    To select the other destination on the map, tap and pin-point a location on the map. The name of the selected location will be displayed. Tapping the name will take you to the Location Details screen.

    How do I preview a route? You can plan a route in simulation mode to:

    preview a route. plan and view a route without a GPS fix, such as when you are inside a building. The following steps will show you how to preview a route.

    1. Select a start point. 2. On the Location Details screen, tap Set as Start.

    If you have a GPS fix, you do not need a start point unless you want the simulation route to start elsewhere.

    3. Select a destination.

    You can tap Take me Home ( ) on the Main Menu to directly take you home.

    4. On the Location Details screen, tap Add as Destination.

    5. Tap on the Main Menu. The Trip Details screen will be displayed.

    7. The Map screen will display the calculated route and the route demonstration will start automatically.

  • How do I view my route?

    3D Map screen When a route has been calculated, the 3D Map screen will display. You will be directed to your destination by spoken and visual instructions.

    About the buttons on the bottom status bar, please refer to How do I use the status bar? on page 8.

    Item Description

    Speed indicator Displays when you exceed the set speed limit. Current route Your current route is highlighted. Current position Your current position is marked with . Smart Display Menu Tap to access the Smart Display Menu. (See How do I use

    Distance, direction and name of next turn

    The distance, direction and street name of your next turn.

    Current street name The name of the street you are located on. POIs nearby Displays the next and upcoming Points of Interest along the

    route.

    Zoom To view zoom options, tap . To zoom in, tap . To zoom out, tap .

    Distance and time information

    Displays the DTG (Distance to Go) and TTG (Time to Go) information.

    Directions screen

    A route must be calculated for this Turn-by-Turn screen to be available.

    The Directions screen displays the upcoming turns of your route with the turn direction, street name and instruction for each turn.

    1. On the Main Menu, tap . The Trip Details screen will display.

    2. Tap to go to Directions screen. 3. You can view all the turns from the list,

    using and . The first upcoming turn is listed on top along with turn direction, distance to turn and navigation instruction.

  • You can tap on one of the turn items to go for details of the selected turn. You can tap

    again on the Turn Detail screen to display the selected turn on the map.

    Dashboard screen It features a speedometer, compass, altimeter, a precision GPS signal strength indicator and your current GPS coordinates.

    How do I view statistics on my current trip?

    How do I view the statistics of the entire trip?

    On the Main Menu, tap to go to the Trip Details screen.

    From this section, you can view how far you have gone with your trip and the distance to go, and also check the estimated distance and travel time of your entire trip.

    Tap to pause and tap to resume the navigation session.

    If you have a GPS fix, you can also tap to record your driving when you are not in an active navigating session.

  • How do I view the statistics between each stop?

    On the Main Menu, tap to go to the Trip Details screen.

    From this section, it shows your start point, via point(s) and destination, and view the estimated route distance and travel time between each stop.

    How do I view my trip logs?

    On the Main Menu, tap and tap to go to the Trip Log screen.

    The Current Trip bar shows you how far, long and the average speed at which you have traveled on your current trip.

    The Trips bar lists (up to the past 30 days) the dates of your trips. You can tap a specific Trip Date to take you to the Trip Date details. Your total traveled distance and average speed for that date are displayed.

    From the Trip Date screen, you can lock any trip by tapping the Lock button. This will keep the locked trip in your Trip Log while the other, unlocked ones, are erased automatically after 30 days.

    You can also export any trip as a KML file by tapping the Export as KML button.

  • How do I set the route preferences?

    1. On the Main Menu, tap . The Trip Details screen will display.

    2. Tap Type and Avoidance to set your preferences. The options are: Route Type

    calculates the route according to your preferences.

    Avoid selects the type of road to avoid.

  • How do I create a trip with multiple stops? You can set multiple stops or via points for your trip. Your route will be calculated to go via each of these points in the specified order. 1. Search for a location to add. (See How

    do I use Quick Search? on page 15 for details.)

    2. Tap Add as Via Point.

    3. The preview map screen will be displayed.

    4. Tapping the icon ( ) once turns the icon into name. Tap the name to return to the Location Details screen. The numbers increase incrementally and chronologically as you add more via points.

    5. Complete the following:

    If you want to Then

    view the location on the map screen tap to display the location on the Map screen. See How do I preview the destination on map? on page 17.

    remove the location from this trip tap Remove from Trip.

    set the location as destination tap Add as Destination.

    move the location one stop before tap Move Before Previous.

    move the location one stop after tap Move After Next.

    find the POIs near the location tap Find Closest POI. The POI list will be displayed based on their proximity to the selected location.

    save the location as a favorite tap Add to Favorites. The location will be saved in Favorites.

    save the location as Home tap Set as Home. The location will be saved as Home.

    How do I save my trip? You can save the current route for future use.

    1. On the Main Menu, tap .

    2. Tap Save Route. The route will be saved to the Favorite Routes list.

    To check the trip you just saved, tap

    on the Main Menu and tap to go to the Favorite Route list.

    How do I save a location as Favorites or Home? 1. Search for a location. (See How do I

    use Quick Search? on page 15 for details.)

    2. Scroll down and tap Add to Favorites. The location is added to your Favorite Places list.

    Tap to set the location as a Priority Favorite Place. The icon will be changed to and the location will always be placed on top of your Favorite Places list.

    3. To save the location as Home, tap Set as Home and the location is set as Home.

    How do I navigate to a location I have saved?

    1. On the Main Menu, tap . The Favorite Places screen will display.

    2. Select a favorite. The Location Details screen will display.

    3. Tap Navigate To. Your Mio will calculate a route from your current location. The Map screen will display.

  • How do I navigate to Home? You need to set an address as Home before navigating to Home.

    To navigate to home, simply tap or tap your home address on the Favorite Places screen and tap Navigate To.

    How do I edit a location in Favorites?

    1. On the Main Menu, tap . 2. From the Favorite Places screen, select a favorite to edit. 3. Complete the following:

    If you want to Then

    find the POIs near your favorite tap Find Closest POI. The POI list will be displayed according to their proximity to the selected location (from the nearest to the farthest).

    select a category for your favorite tap Categories. Choose a category from the list.

    You can select more than one category at a time.

    You can tap Edit Add New Category to add your own category. Enter the name of the category and tap Save. The new category will be added to the list. You can tap the category item to rename or tap to remove it from the list. To finish editing, tap Done.

    Name the favorite tap Add Name. The Keyboard screen will display. After you have edited the name, tap Save.

    remove the favorite tap Remove from Favorites.

    save the location as Home tap Set as Home.

    save the location as a favorite (if the location is currently set as home)

    tap Add to Favorites.

    remove the home address (if the location is currently set as home)

    tap Remove Home.

  • Nearby POI/Recent Place

    How do I find the nearby POIs? 1. Select a location you want to search

    from.

    2. On the Location Details screen, tap Find Closest POI

    3. A list of POIs is displayed from the nearest to the farthest according to their proximity to the selected location.

    4. To narrow down the search, you can select a category by tapping the button on top of the POI list.

    To facilitate the selection for all, you can tap the button on top to Deselect all or tap again to Select all.

    How do I navigate to a selected nearby POI? Select a POI from the Closest POI screen (see earlier section to know how to search for nearby POIs) and tap Navigate To on the Location Details screen. Your Mio will calculate a route from your current location. The Map screen will display.

  • How do I navigate to a recent place? To make navigating to an address easier, your Mio will automatically save all the destinations that you have navigated to in a list.

    1. On the Main Menu, tap . 2. Tap a recent location. The Location

    Details screen will display.

    3. Tap Navigate To. Your Mio will calculate a route from your current location. The Map screen will display.
