    Use live batteries

    The battery test (page 7) cannottell you how long the battery willremain serviceable. With normaluse, a fresh battery will last forabout a year. Make i t a habi t to re-place the battery annual ly,even i f i ts t i l l tests "OK".lf a battery fails shortly after in-stal lat ion,remove i t and c lean bothends with a dry rough cloth or papertowel , and re- instal l . Replace withfresh battery if cleaned battery doesnot pass test.An exhausted or normal ly agedbattery must be removed from thecamera promptly.     Setting i lm speedTurn the fi lm speed scale on theunderside of the camera to the ASA(or DIN) number of the fi lm you areusing.lf the specif ic number of the fi lm

    indicator needle in the viewf nder'actuated by an auxiliary CdS exPo-sure meter.     Distance scale,Rangeof sharpnessBy turning the lront ring of thelens you can set the Minox 35 EL for

    any distance from 3 feet to infinity(oo).With any distance set t ing, he pic-ture wi l l be sharp not only at thatspeci f ic distance but the sharpnesswi l l inc lude objects which are some-what closer aswel l as objectswhichare beyond the set distance. Thisrange of sharpness (depth of f ie ld)var ies with the distance set t ing andwith the lens opening (f-stop) used.The 35mm lens of your Minox 35 ELhas a convenient scale to indicatethe depth of f ie ld for every distanceat the var ious f-stop sett ings.     Fi lm oading

    Load - or unload Your Minox 35 ELin subdued light; if there is no othershade, turn your back toward thesun. Turn the back cover lock tothe left so that the red dot becomesvisible; slide the back cover off thecamera. Insert the film cartridgeinto the film chamber with the Pro-truding film end pointing to the right.Open the front cover ol the ca'mera so that You can oPerate theshutter release button. Turn the filmadvance lever until the wide slot of

    the take-up spool is accessible. (l lnecessary, press release button tofree film advance.)Press rewind release button onthe right side on camera bottom.This locks uP the take'uP sPool loreasier insertion of the film. Slidefilm under liP of the take'uP sPooluntit three or four pertoration holes

    Fi lmunloading

    Last exposure, dePending on filmlength, is at Position 36, 20 or 12 olthe exposure counter. lf the filmadvance can no longer be oPerated'do not try to force it. The film mustbe rewound into the cartridge.Fold out the rewind crank on theleft top side ol the camera. Depressthe rewind release button (rightunder side of camera), let it goagain, and turn the rewind crankcloekwise.When the rewind crank suddenlYturns more freelY, the film has beenrespooled into the cartridge. Afterrewinding, slide camera back olfand remove the cartridge from thecamera.
