Enlighten about the Ministry

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Ministry of I&B) is a

branch of the Government of India which is apex body for formulation

and administration of the rules and regulations and laws relating to

information, broadcasting, the press and films in India.

The Ministry is responsible for the administration of Prasar Bharati-the

broadcasting arm of the Indian Government.

The Central Board of Film Certification is the other important functionary

under this ministry being responsible for the regulation of motion pictures

broadcast in India.

Information Sector

Agreements

MoU signed between Publications Division and Sahitya Mandal for

Joint Publication of books, to sensitise the young generation about

India’s rich and diverse culture and history. It would promote availability

of good literature for the people on diverse topics.

Agreement on “Cooperation in the field of Information, Communication

and Media” was signed between India and Ethiopia.

The Agreement will encourage cooperation between mass media tools

such as radio, print media, TV, social media etc. to provide more

opportunities to the people of both the nations and create public

accountability.

Miscellaneous Events round the year

360 degree Multimedia Campaigns such as International Yoga Day,

Swachh Bharat , Make in India, Skill India, Digital India, Rashtriya Ekta

Diwas were launched by the Government.

It entailed Multimedia Exhibitions, social media campaigns using

Infographics, animations, graphic plates, short videos, live streaming of

events /conferences etc.

6th National Photography Awards organized. Shri Raghu Rai conferred

Lifetime Achievement Award. Professional Photographer of the year

award to Shri K.K. Mustafah and Amateur Photographer of the year

award to Shri Ravinder Kumar.

Three Heritage Books on the occasion of Centenary Celebrations of

Champaran Satyagraha released.

Set of books titled ‘Swachh Jungle ki kahani – Dadi ki Zubani’ Books

published in 15 Indian languages by Publications Division to enable

development of cleanliness habit amongst children released.

“Saath Hai Vishwaas Hai, Ho Raha Vikas Hai” Exhibition organized and

was put up across state capitals for duration of 5-7 days showcasing the

achievements of the Government in the last 3 years in various sectors.

100 Volumes of Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi released. The

Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi’(CWMG) is a monumental

document of Gandhiji’s thoughts which he spoke and wrote from 1884,

when Mahatma was a 15 year old boy, till his assassination on January

30, 1948.

Special Webpage on Goods and Services Tax

(GST) http://pib.nic.in/gst was created on PIB Website and is a one stop

platform for all information on the new tax regime.

RNI Annual Report - Press in India, an Important Index of Print Media

was released. The report gave a comprehensive analysis of the contours

of the growth for the industry specially the growth amongst regional

language publications.

Film Sector (events/developments round the year)

Indian Panorama Film Festival organized in Delhi.

The festival opened with the Documentary film “Ima Sabitri” directed by

Bobo Khuraijam and Hindi feature film “Pinky Beauty Parlour” directed

by Akshay Singh.

Film Condition Assessment Project under National Film Heritage

Mission launched.

This one-of-its-kind project in the world, for film preservation, will make

rich filmic heritage available for the future generations to come.

The condition of about 1,32,000 film reels at NFAI would be assessed

and each film reel will be tracked and monitored through RFID tagging,

during the first phase.

India & Ukraine to strengthen bilateral cooperation through the medium

of Film Festivals and utilizing the Film Facilitation Office platform

established by India.

MoU signed between FTII and Canon to promote short courses in Film

& Television. Canon to support skill-oriented courses as Technology

Partner. These short courses will be held in collaboration with State

Governments, Universities and Educational institutions.

New category of visa for foreign filmmakers created to ease issues

related to their entry into the country. Both the Film Visa and the Film

Facilitation Office (FFO) have been aimed to promote India as an

attractive filming destination to the world.

64th National Film Awards 64th National Film Awards organized in Delhi. Kassav awarded Best

Feature Film and Sathamanam Bhavathi awarded as Best Popular Film

providing Wholesome Entertainment, Akshay Kumar given Best Actor

award for the film Rustom, Ms. Surabhi awarded Best Actress for the

Malayalam movie Minnaminungu-The Firefly Rajesh Mapuskar given

Best Direction Award for Marathi movie Ventilator.

65th National Film Awards

The 65th National Film Awards have been announced with Bollywood

film ‘Newton’ emerging as the Best Hindi Film and music maestro AR

Rahman emerging as the biggest winner.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur headed the jury of the film awards which

recognises talents across cinema in all languages.

Late actress Sridevi was conferred with the Best Actress Award

posthumously for her last film ‘Mom’ while the Best Actor Award went

to Riddhi Sen for 'Nagarkirtan'.

48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI)

The 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), 2017 was organised

in Goa.

A Total of 196 Films from 82 Countries, over 64 India Premieres of

International films, 3 world Premieres, over 28 Oscar submissions were

screened, for the first-time ever Retrospective of James Bond film

screened.

A special section of Restored Classics, a special Focus on Canada

curated by the Toronto International Film Festival showcased.

A Retrospective of Lifetime Achievement Award given to Atom

Egoyan, Indian Film Personality of the Year was awarded to Shri

Amitabh Bachchan.

Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation

Enlighten about the Ministry

The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, is

headed by the Cabinet Minister, Drinking Water & Sanitation.

It is the Nodal Ministry for the overall policy, planning, funding and

coordination of two flagship programmes of the Government of India,

namely, the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) for

rural drinking water supply and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin)

[SBM (G)] for sanitation in the country.

Swachh Bharat Mission

To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to

put focus on safe sanitation, the Prime Minister of India launched the

Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October, 2014.

The Mission aims to achieve a Swachh Bharat by 2nd October, 2019, as a

fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150h birth anniversary.

Swachh Bharat, in rural areas shall mean improving the levels of

cleanliness through Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities and

making Gram Panchayats Open Defecation Free (ODF), clean and

sanitised. ODF would mean the termination of faecal-oral transmission,

defined by,

- no visible faeces found in the environment/village and,every household as

well as public/community institution(s) using safe technology option for

disposal of faeces, as defined by the Ministry.

National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP)

The National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) is a Centrally

Sponsored Scheme aimed at providing every person in rural India with

adequate safe water for drinking, cooking and other domestic basic needs

on a sustainable basis.

Safe water is to be readily and conveniently accessible at all times and in

all situations and therefore, the scheme focuses on the creation of the

infrastructure.

This has resulted in in the provision of significant additional resources to

the sector and for the development of infrastructure and capacities for the

successful operation of drinking water supply schemes in rural areas.

Enlighten about the developments/events

Swachhata Pakhwada

Swachhata Pakhwada started in April 2016 with the objective of bringing

a fortnight of intense focus on the issues and practices of Swachhhata by

engaging Central Ministries and Departments in their jurisdiction.

An annual calendar is pre-circulated among the Ministries to help them

plan for the Pakhwada activities.

Namami Gange

Namami Gange Programme is an initiative of Ministry of Water

Resources (MOWR), comprising of making villages on the bank of River

Ganga ODF and interventions dealing with solid and liquid waste

management are being implemented by MDWS.

All 4470 villages located across 52 districts of Uttarakhand, Uttar

Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal

Swachh Iconic Places (SIP)

The Ministry has taken up a multi-stakeholder initiative focusing on

cleaning up 100 places across India that are “iconic” due to their heritage,

religious and/or cultural significance.

The goal of the Initiative is to improve the cleanliness conditions at these

places to a distinctly higher level.

This initiative is in partnership with Ministries of Urban Development,

Tourism and Culture with MDWS being the nodal ministry.

So far in first two phases, 20 iconic places has been taken up. All these 20

Iconic Sites have designated PSUs or corporates for financial and

technical support.

Swachh Shakti, March 8, 2017

Swachh Shakti was organized on March 8th, 2017, International

Women’s Day, at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar.

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the gathering on this

occasion. Around 6,000 selected women sarpanches, grassroots workers

from across the country attended the event, and Swachhta Champions

were honoured for their outstanding contribution towards making Swachh

Bharat a reality in rural India.

Freedom from Open Defecation (FOD) week (Aug 9 – Aug 15)

IEC activities like door to door IPC, Swachhata Raths, Rallies,

Marathons, Felicitation of Champions, Quiz/painting competitions for

Awareness generation and mass mobilization of communities across the

rural hinterland was carried out for triggering Behaviour Change.

Swachh Sankalp se Swachh Siddhi Competition (Aug 17-Sep 8)

The Hon’ble Prime Minister has given the clarion call to achieve a New

India by 2022 under Sankalp se Siddhi, a mass resolve to make all dirt

and filth quit India.

In pursuit of this vision, MoDWS organised countrywide Film, Essay and

Paining Competition between 17 August and 8 September 2017 as

another major step towards making Swachhta a people’s movement.

Darwaza Bandh Media Campaigns

Aiming at Behavior Change, an aggressive mass media campaign

titled 'Darwaza Band' featuring Amitabh Bachchan to promote continued

toilet use especially by men has been launched.

The campaign includes 5 TV and Radio spots in 9 languages including

Hindi and has been successfully launched on the mass media across the

country.

Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS), Sep 16-Oct 2, 2017

In his Mann Ki Baat address on August 27, 2017, the Prime Minister

called upon the nation to invoke a spirit of cleanliness and perform

activities or SHRAMDAN and urged all NGOs, schools, colleges, social,

cultural and political leaders, corporates, government officials, Collectors

and sarpanches, to accelerate Swachhata activities during the Sept 15 –

Oct 2, 2017 period.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi led the campaign by performing

shramdan for twin pit toilet construction in Shahanshahpur village,

Varanasi. He commented that “Swachhata has to become ‘Swabhav’

The Ministry of Minority Affairs was carved out of Ministry of Social

Justice & Empowerment and created on 29th January 2006 to ensure a

more focused approach towards issues relating to the notified minority

communities namely Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Sikhs, Parsis and Jain.

The mandate of the Ministry includes formulation of overall policy and

planning, coordination, evaluation and review of the regulatory

framework and development programmes for the benefit of the minority

communities.

Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has assumed the office as an Union Minister

for Minority Affairs on Monday, 4 September, 2017 in New Delhi.

Enlighten about the events/achievements

The Ministry of Minority Affairs went completely online/digital.

Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi launched

a portal for Private Tour Operators (PTO) for Haj 2018 to ensure that the

entire process related to Haj becomes fully transparent.

Ministry of Minority Affairs had constituted a Committee to review the

existing Haj Policy of the Government for 2013-17 and to suggest

framework for new Haj policy 2018-22.

The Central Government lifted ban on women going to Haj without

Mehram(male companion). For Haj 2018, a large number of women are

applying to go to Haj without Mehram.

Increase in Haj quota benefits all states.

Union Minister of Minority Affairs launched Haj Committee of India

Mobile App at Haj House in Mumbai in January.

Applying for Haj, enquiry and information, news and updates and e-

payment are the main features of Haj Committee of India Mobile App.

Application for Haj can be made directly from the App.

Hunar Haat A spectacular platform of Ministry of Minority Affairs was held at India

International Trade Fair (IITF) from November 14-27, 2017.

About 130 artisans from 20 states & Union Territories participated in

the Hunar Haat.

A joint campaign was launched in January by the Ministry of Minority

Affairs, National Waqf Development Corporation (NAWADCO)

and Central Waqf Council to utilise the Waqf properties for socio-

economic-educational empowerment of minority communities specially

Muslims.

Jiyo Parsi Publicity Phase-2

It was organized in Mumbai.

The main objective of the “Jiyo Parsi” scheme is to reverse the declining

trend of Parsi population by adopting a scientific protocol and structured

interventions, stabilize their population and increase the population of

Parsis in India.

Miscellaneous events

Union Minister for Minority Affairs Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

announced that a certificate course for "GST Facilitator" was launched

in Hyderabad.

He also announced that course for "Sanitary Supervisors" will be started

in about 100 Gharib Nawaz Skill Development Centres, being

established across the country.

Shri Naqvi undertook “Shramdan” (voluntary work) at the campus of

Maulana Azad Education Foundation of the Minority Affairs Ministry

under “Swachhta Hi Seva” (cleanliness is service) campaign.

Progress Panchayat was held in Alwar Rajasthan on December17, 2017

and various development projects including schools, hostels, primary

health centres were inaugurated.
