Mining is the extraction of valuable minerals or 

other geological materials from the earth from 

an orebody, lode, vein, seam, or reef, which forms the mineralized package of economic interest to the miner.

Mining as a science, deals with:• surveying, mining and mining maps,

• mining robots,• drilling technology workings and operation of various types of minerals way: open-pit, subterranean 

and borehole• ventilation of mines,

• construction machinery and mining equipment,• energy supply,• mine transport,

• drainage,• mining dangers: water, climate, radiative, roof-collapse, landslide, shocks, outbursts of gas and rocks,

• organization and management of the mining process mining operators. Many of the technologies and methods developed in the mining industry were used in other industries, 

such as: the pursuit of tunnels, passages and underground storage, deep excavations, etc.

Machines used in mining

Shearer - mining machine used to raise coal from the deck. In contrast to road headers move the special structure conveyor. 

Suspended frictional railway - is designed for the transport of people and materials handling section of roof supports, ie, the elements  of a combine, heavy pieces of chain conveyors and materials for reinforcement and liquidation of wall excavations.

It is also used for other transport works.

Carbon conveyor -  a mining device, comprising a cutting head with cutting wedge, the plow chain, conveyor drives, shifter assembly 

station along with the auxiliary power supply and the drive elements for moving, tensioning and anchoring of the conveyor. Extracting is done by dragging the blade wedge head chains along the face ancestor, the output is directed fouling on the conveyor.

Scraper conveyor - a sliding-type transport device, wherein attached to the chain (s) cross members, known 

as scrapers, move the output continuously in a specified location.Each scraper conveyor consists of the following basic units: the drive bays chain with scrapers and reflexive. The drive motor coupled to a gear train 

through a torque converter drives the star drive, which involves the 

conveyor chain with the dredged material. To drive motors are used 

with high starting torque (refractory). Components and assemblies used 

conveyors are unified so that they are interchangeable. This allows the arrangement of spare parts and 

facilitates the training of operating personnel.

Miners DayA traditional holiday mining, celebrated in Poland on December 4, the day of St. Barbara of Nicomedia, the patron of a good death and difficult work.In the tradition of mining Miners Day begins the morning ceremony in the church with the figure of St. Barbara. Then the miners band  marching  playing. . On the occasion of this day are also organized concerts, artistic performances, games and balls, involving whole families mining.In the days preceding the feast organized beer taverns, involving miners and persons related with mining (pensioners, employees of companies cooperating with mines, mining researchers from the faculties of universities and those studying there). Beer taverns designed for surveillance mining are organized by the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians. The counterpart of the inn beer are organized for women combry babskie.
