Construction
MiniCODERs are provided for contactless measurement ofrotational movements primarily in machines, gears, motorsor high speed spindles.MiniCODERs and precision target wheels form a unit forthe acquisition of rotary movements. The MiniCODER scans the ferromagnetic target wheel. The magnetic field from the MiniCODER is modulated bythe rotating target wheel. The integrated sensors and elec-tronics convert this change into sinusoidal output signals.
Signal pattern
The output signals are sin/cos signals for the detection ofthe direction (tracks 1 and 2) and their inverse signals, sig-nal pattern K.

Reference marks
To generate a reference signal a reference mark is re-quired on the target wheel (see → page 7).The position of the reference mark defines the phase posi-tion of the refence signal in relation to the measuringtracks. The MiniCODER comfort evaluates the following referencemarks: flag, groove, tooth (1).
Internal regulation
The MiniCODER comfort can be supplied with or withoutinternal regulation (type R or 1)Due to the internal regulation the MiniCODER regulatesfluctuations in the sin/cos amplitudes caused by changesof the air gap or temperature variations. As a result mounting is significantly simplified. It is not nec-essary to re-adjust the MiniCODER to optimise the signals.
Cable outlet
The MiniCODER comfort is available with the following ca-ble outlets:

About target wheels
DS22-2444K (2015-12) Lenord, Bauer & Co. GmbH 7
Target wheels
For detecting rotary movements, the MiniCODERs and tar-get wheels form a complete unit. The target wheel size andhence , its diameter are directly dependent on the moduleand the number of teeth.
Standard target wheels
Standard target wheels are available at short notice ex fac-tory. Specifications and designs see “Technical informationZAx / ZFx”.
Customised target wheels
On request, customised target wheels are manufacturedaccording to individual specifications. Please send us a di-mensional drawing of your target wheel (if possible, as adxf-file) to [email protected].
Reference marks
The MiniCODER can detect reference marks in the form ofa groove, flag or tooth. The pulse detected can be used forreferencing the position. This feature is necessary, for ex-ample, to automatically change a tool in a milling spindle orgrinding spindle. The selection of the reference mark is defined by the sizeand rotational speed of the target wheel used, as both pa-rameters have an effect on the forces acting on the refer-ence mark. In case of new designs we recommend the us-age of a target wheel with reference mark variant “Z”.
Reference mark N – flag
A metal lug integrated into the target wheel and that ispositioned exactly between two teeth is detected. The flag
must be made of ferromagnetic material and must not pro-trude beyond the outside diameter of the target wheel. Dueto the forces acting on the reference lug, this variant is onlyallowed to be used in a very limited speed range.
Reference mark M – groove
At rotational speeds above 30,000 min-1 a target wheelwith reference groove can be used. The MiniCODER de-tects the reference groove between two teeth. This targetwheel is made up of two pieces for technical reasons.
Reference mark Z – tooth on tooth
These target wheels are made from one piece. On oneside the teeth are milled away except for one tooth. In thisway a reference track is produced with one tooth that isdetected. Rotational speeds above 100,000 min-1 are al-lowed.
Module
The module is a tooth parameter for tooth wheels and de-scribes the relationship between the number of teeth andthe pitch circle diameter of the tooth wheel. For the majori-ty of applications the outside diameter of the target wheelis crucial. Given the same number of teeth, the smaller themodule the smaller outside diameter.
The MiniCODER must be ordered to suit themodule of the target wheel.
