REGISTER EARLY FOR A DISCOUNT REHEARSALS Saturdays, September 21—November 30, 2013 — 9:30AM to 3:00PM This awesome Saturday theater experience offers 3 rd thru 8 th graders the opportunity to work, rehearse and create together as a performance ensemble. Performers will meet each Saturday, and four Wednesday evenings for some, to explore the many facets of theater—acting, music, dance and theater production—as they prepare for a musical performance on the Main Stage at the Villagers. Students will study proper stage etiquette, technique and develop a basic understanding of theater as a creative collaboration both on stage and behind the scenes. Past productions include: OZ!, A Christmas Carol, Grease: School Edition, ABC’s of Broadway: A Musical Revue, Cinderella, Bye Bye Birdie Jr., Once On This Island Jr., Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, Seussical Jr, All Shook Up, Annie, Footloose, Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Thoroughly Modern Millie! Over the course of the 11-week program, students will gain an understanding of this creative art form and develop a strong sense of appreciation for all aspects of musical theater while rehearsing for the production. In addition, students will develop a basic theater repertoire by exploring other musicals and will practice audition techniques to prepare them for future opportunities. Our program includes: . TECH WEEK—MANDATORY Sunday thru Thursday, December 1—5, 2013 — 6:00-9:30PM ACTING — Exploring drama through creative dramatics, theatre games, basic script analysis and direction as well as study the craft of performing in musical theater through participating in the cast. DANCE — Movement and rhythm are necessary tools for every performer in a musical. Dance/movement will be taught with proper techniques to warm up their bodies and prepare physically for performance. MUSIC – Students will learn proper warm up, singing techniques and develop basic musicality. Students will practice memorization, harmonization and develop a basic understanding of musical terms while staging this production. PRODUCTION ARTS — Introduction to the technical aspects of theatre including make-up, props, costuming, set design, construction, lighting, and sound will give each performer an understanding of the total theater experience. PERFORMANCE — Students and families will participate in this musical theater experience on the Villagers’ Main Stage. Shrek the Musical will be performed on Friday, December 6, at 8:00PM, Saturday, December 7, at 2:00PM and 8:00PM and Sunday, December 8, at 2:00PM. Tickets for this production are $10; all seats are reserved. COREY RUBEL, DIRECTOR

Corey is a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in English and Theatre and is attaining his Masters in Theatre Education from NYU. He

has directed many productions in venues including Villagers Theatre, Livingston Theatre Company, Cabaret Theatre and St. Matthias School. In

addition to directing MMM’s recent productions of Annie, Footloose, Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Thoroughly Modern Millie and the Acting/

Musical Theatre Teen Workshop musical revues Becoming Someone and As The Sun Goes Down, he has also directed the past three TeensVill

productions—13, The Wedding Singer and Spring Awakening: A New Musical and currently Legally Blonde: The Musical—teaching the cast acting

techniques, as well as mentoring student assistant directors on the productions. Corey currently works as a teaching artist at George Street

Playhouse, is involved with the Broadway Artists Alliance, teaches theater at Papermill Playhouse and will remain a Papermill Rising Star Evaluator

for his fourth year. Theatre is his passion and he looks for every reason to engage himself with shows, teaching the craft and becoming more

educated himself.
