WelcomeDear friend, I am so glad you are reading this

edition of ‘Harmony’ newsletter. This is an outreachvehicle of our ministry, designed to connect you togodly restoration principles and victorious living inthese times of uncertainty.

Someone once said, “Life is not a bed of roses”,how true! Like a captain sailing out of a port, peopleof purpose set their compass to a desirabledestination. Sometimes in life, unexpected winds

blow against their cruise plans, detour occurs and insome cases the vessel capsizes. Though detoured, many

regain direction and arrive later than planned, in a storm-beaten, possibly battered vessel. But arrive they do! Sad to say,

many more end up marooned. This may be in form of a frustratedbusiness plan, social relationship, career or childhood dream, etc.

Is God ever afraid of messed up plans or messed up lives? No, As a matter of fact, itis almost like God’s excellence is more appreciated in such circumstances and Hiscomeback plans for us when things go wrong is amazing. In recent months, people’sfinances, and other crucial pillars of what makes, for healthy living have suffered ameltdown . In this well crafted edition .My team and I have put together some of God’sprinciples that will help break those limits, pick up again from the ruins of yesterdayand walk with your head up high.

Iwas probably around eightwhen I first saw ‘The Tempest’,a 16th Century classic fromWilliam Shakespeare. Whathad appeared like a beautiful

day to sail for King Alonso and hisentourage suddenly turned out tobe their worst nightmare. I was soshaken and held on tightly to theedge of my seat. I would never havebelieved that a film with such achaotic start could turn out to be ar-guably one of the best stories of ro-mance and restoration.

Everyone enjoys some specialmoments where there seems to bepeace and tranquility all around. Insuch moments, things work as theyare supposed to, every expectationno matter how small becomes a

manifestation. In those moments,we believe with all our hearts that“Someone out there” is looking outfor us! Until the storm hits…

As a football fan, I know what itmeans for a storm to hit a team. Onemoment your team is on top of thetable or near, then one after theother, your key players pick up in-juries just when the title race issteaming up! Then as if that is notbad enough, your star striker is los-ing focus because of a drawn outcontract renegotiations and rumoursof rival clubs poaching him. Worry-ing as this may seem, the effect soonwears out, as it is only a game. Lifehowever is not. When the storms oflife hit you, it is almost like one islocked in a downward spiral. It is

not uncommon for even the mostunreligious of people to scream the‘G’ word – ‘God, where are you inall these?’

Have you had any of those ‘Godwhere are you’ period in recenttimes? Imagine a married womanwho had been trying for a baby un-successfully for over ten years sud-denly gets pregnant and from allindications, everything looks goodwith the baby and mother. Sixmonths into the pregnancy, whenthe dream seemed nearer than ever. With all plans in place, everyonecounting down, thinking that child-less days and its sighs long gone. She goes for a normal check up atthe doctors’ only for her world to beturned upside down, “sorry, no

foetal heart beat!” Doctor said. What about when a terminal dis-

ease hits a loving family? Or it maybe, an unexpected major loss of in-come. Perhaps for you it’s an injury,or a major scandal. Then every-thing begins to fall apart like apack of cards! Initially youwould think, it is a nightmarethat will soon go away. Then re-ality hits you. This is not fic-tional or a dream. It is real andit’s happening to you. Stormshit the very core of what we call“stable”. It shakes our roots, tests our beliefs and stretchesour endurance.

Since the global economicmeltdown, many homes, busi-nesses and careers have beencrushed and even Nations arenot immuned. This financialcrash have had a great impacton people who are now dealingwith the aftermath of this dras-tic situation. And I can almosthear someone ask – “where isGod in all these?”

Right now, a year is wrap-ping up and in a few days an-other year is on the horizon.Only you and those closest toyou, would know what the yearhas been for you. It may havebeen turbulent, relatively calm, regressive or uneventful; per-haps it has even been a good one. While we must take lessons fromour experiences of the past or outgo-ing years, we must prepare for theyears approaching. More impor-tantly, we must prepare to rebuildwhat has been broken in paststorms.

A Storm is a disturbance of thenormal condition of the atmosphere, manifesting itself by winds of unusualforce or direction; or it is a violent dis-turbance of affairs. Storms could bephysical, spiritual, psychological, fi-nancial or marital. Whether or notwe survive the unpredictable expe-riences of the storm and howquickly we come out of it, often de-pends on what we do during or

after the storm. Some of us mayhave found ourselves in storms as aresult of our associations. We maysuddenly find ourselves battling forsurvival, seeking short cuts and es-

cape routes whichever way theypresent themselves.

I don’t know what life hasthrown at you in recent weeks or in

the course of this year. I don’t knoweven if you have taken the right orthe wrong turns at some point andyou now feel overwhelmed withguilt or feel you have undergone an

undeserved outcome.Whichever it is, may I beginby encouraging you to getready to praise God’s name. Ihave found out that anyonecan praise God on the moun-tain top. Anyone can callHim Lord, Daddy, Saviour,Best friend etc when it seemsthey can understand andtrace His dealings in theirlife. However, the true test ofour confessions and commit-ments are visible when ourencounters do not meet ourexpectations..

Do not limit the faithful-ness of God in your livespurely to the good times. Asyou press in deeper to Godbeyond the basic, you willsoon discover that life is notjust a dry and wet seasonspiritually. Both coexist. Nomatter how bad things are, there is always somethinggood you can thank God forand your situation is still farbetter than someone else’s.

You can either focus onyour purposes, or you can

focus on your problems. Focusingon your problems, will lead to selfpity, self defeat and ultimately de-pression. Making you vulnerableand seeking help where there isnone. God loves you, not becauseyou do good things, His love is un-conditional. You can make a Come-back!

This may sound conflicting. Butstorms are essential to a victoriousliving. James 1:2 says, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into diverstemptations.” Not all storms can beexplained. What is certain is, there iscertainly a way out, of every storm.Jesus, the author and finisher of ourfaith, had His own share of Stormsof life. Hence, if storms, are part of

No maer how badthings are, there isalways something

good you can thankGod for and your

situaon is sll farbeer than

the package, surely, there must be away for a comeback.

WHAT MUST I DO FOR ACOMEBACK AFTER A STORM?1. Be thankful, you are still here:

The same storm that swallowedothers in Genesis 8:20, liftedNoah’s family to safety. Youmay have lost a lot, rejoice thatyou are still alive. When there islife, there is hope.

2. Believe the unlimited God:There is no mistakes in him, noimpossibilities to His plan! Godis the Creator, Builder andRestorer of all things. He can fixbroken lives and foundations –if we let Him. He alone has theauthority to calm the Storms.Run to Him, surrender to Himand submit to His necessaryadjustments for your life.

3. Make a choice to moveforward: Your attitude tosetbacks goes a long a way indetermining how quickly youcome back. Your attitude couldbe your best friend or yourworst enemy. It is YOURCHOICE. Commit yourself toJesus, and become a member ofthe “royalty” in God’s KingdomA staggering success awaits youand unspeakable splendor canbe yours.

4. Connect into meaningfulrelationships: This is not thetime for flaky and superficialsocial, spiritual or businessrelationships. People are your

greatest asset and could be yourgreatest liability. Walk with thewise and lean closer to the HolySpirit as stated in Proverbs13:20. This is the time to beproperly aligned, not remotelyconnected. God’s blessing flowscorporately especially underthis kind of situation. Find aChurch where your gifts andtalents can be harnessed andGod’s Words can be ministeredwith power into you.

5. Find The Positives: Eventhough this may be difficult tospot in all the negatives around.God will never leave youwithout a window for a victorysong! Rely on God to help youfind the hidden diamonds inyour debris. Draw up a plan bysurveying the situation andarticulating your thoughts.Prioritize them into immediate, medium & long term plans.

6. Create a new vision for thefuture: This will enable you topick yourself up from the floor.Put the past behind you andface the future boldly. Speakand sing about your vision.Paint new pictures and imagesin your mind and dare tobelieve these. A dream is apicture of a desired future. Burythe pain of past failure. Let yourmind be dominated bypossibilities so that it turns intoa fertile ground for Faith towork. Faith and patience are thebasis of all miracles and

mysteries. Anything you repeatto yourself over and overeventually becomes a reality.

7. Feel good about yourself: Youare not a failure even if youhave failed to achieve.Differentiate between anunachieved goal and a failedperson! Smile, square up yourshoulders and walk tall, let thetongue-wagers wonder. Loserscarry a cloud around them andno one would place their bet onone. Look and think like apotential winner!

8. Build Up your Prayer Life:Storms have a way of taking oureyes off prayer. We feeldisappointed, weak, bruisedand guilty. Yet, prayer is one ofthe most potent weaponsavailable for man on earth. It isour personal PIN No, to theheavenly supply and strength.Hard work is crucial and amust, but no man can prevail onstrength alone. Only the effortbacked by God is guaranteedsuccess. ‘Except the Lord buildsthe city, they labour in vain whobuilds it’.The amazing thing about God is,

the moment you make up yourmind to come back, His ears are in-clined and His heart is yearning foryour prayers. He said, call unto me,and I will answer. What better as-surance do we need for a Come-back? See you on the winning side.

The arrival of HarmonyChrisan Centre (a.k.a. HCC ) atConcord House in Barking andDagenham has given the min-istry a greater opportunity toimpact the lives of the mem-bers as well as some people inthe immediate communies.

The year 2009 has been re-markably full of life-impacngevents for HCC members and itsGuests during the year.

The Couples' Forum tookon a more vibrant and interac-ve dimension. It afforded mar-ried couples the opportunity tolearn from other's challengesand personal experiences. It ame to discuss real life familyissues and feast together. Therewere moments of tears as deep

emoonal issues were touchedand healed by the power ofGod. Everyone le these forumsfired up with renewed mar-riages.

In summer, there was theBlack Hole Event, a film showthat gave Concord House audi-ence a cinemac experience. The audience was ushered intoa relaxed modern Cinema the-ater with all its associated trim-mings. They were eventuallytreated to a family film- FireProof, with lots of praccal les-sons for all to reflect on.

The Children's Day Celebra-on and Summer Barbecuewas a sizzling experience forboth children and adults. With adance and drama presentaon

by the children. Everyone weretreated to a well prepared bar-becue, games for children andadult included bouncing castle, table tennis, snooker and lotsmore. A memorable experienceas people had the opportunityto interact and fellowship in afriendly, fun filled and feasngatmosphere.

The Youth Convenontagged 'Inside Out' was awe-some. It was a me when theHCC Youths known as the G-Squad (God's Squad) proved toall that life is to be lived from in-side out not the other wayround. Fashion show, drama, talk show and many other ac-vies were used to drive homethis point.

Our Heroes were not leout as we celebrated the UKRemembrance and Interna-onal Day, honouring the sacri-fices of past and presentheroes. It was a unique day asthe senior Pastor, Wale Olulanashared with the congregaonthat good Counsel, and not mili-tary might or armory makes anaon or any individual great. He led the listeners in prayingfor godly and mely Counselsand counselors for those in au-thority and in central govern-ment. The church sang theBrish naonal anthem wavingthe Union Jack. Later, the flagsof 32 different naonalies rep-resented in HCC so far were dis-played to celebrate our diversity

HCC Newham, under theleadership of Pastor BoomyTokan and his team, celebratedtheir one year anniversary inNovember 2009. We markedthe event with seven specialSeminal held in Youth trainingcenters around Newham. Topicscovered included - Pregnancyand Nutrion ; UnderstandingThe Business of Music; Singingand Vocal Training; JewelleryMaking; Cooking etc. More than30 young people were impacted

with new skills and new rela-onships formed for furtherposive influence.

Many more events fed ourcuriosity in 2009 which meand space will not permit us toelaborate. The best way to haveit all is to be a parcipant ofwhat is happening at HarmonyChrisan Centre in either of ourmeeng venues: ConcordHouse, Dagenham and inNewham. Trustees of

TrueRiches

DR TUNDE BAKARE

Ninety percent of thewars fought in ourworld today are mo-tivated by the con-trol of the wealth of

the world. Societies are usuallyformed around or close to availableresources, but many people are usu-ally ignorant of these resources. Thefew people that discover them ex-plore them to their advantage andto the exploitation of those who donot know. Two percent of the popu-lation of the world today controlsninety-eight percent of its resources, while the remaining ninety-eightpercent of the population strugglesto survive on the remaining twopercent of the resources.

Economists tell us that humanneeds are unlimited but the re-sources are limited. This is not so,because the resources of the earthare hidden in every human needyou can think of or imagine. What-ever inventions or business empiresyou can see today were all made tomeet a need. Wherever there is aneed, there is a resource to meet itand wherever there is a resource, the need for it will arise.

According to the parable of the

talent in the Bible, the master of cer-tain servants gave them resources inproportion to their abilities, butonly two out of three were foundworthy of true riches (Matthew25:14-30). In our days, the number isworse than the opposite of whatwas obtained then. This is due to ig-norance, greed and laziness.

If you are ignorant of your trueidentity, you will be ignorant ofyour true ability, talent or resources. An ignorant man will always see aneed as a problem rather than anopportunity to explore his Godgiven resources. The journey to be-coming a trustee of true riches be-gins with the discovery of your trueidentity- who you are and what youhave.

We need divine wisdom, notgreed to locate the needs in our so-ciety and how we can meet themwith our God given abilities. In 1Kings 3:5, God gave King Solomona blank cheque to ask for whateverhe wanted. He asked for wisdomand that brought him great riches. When you embrace wisdom, youwill conduct your affairs in such away that heaven will have no choicebut to rain blessings on you.

8 HARMONY

Page 9: Mini magazine for Harmony Christian Centre

For any venture or business tosurvive, it must be centred on aneed. A business man or woman isone who has located a need in anygiven society. Having located thatneed, he puts his resources or talenttogether to meet that need for thebenefit of the people, while at thesame time making a profit out of it.If your profit does not impact love,it is greed and God does not sustaina system of greed.

No one can experience trueriches if he does not purge himselfof greed and covetousness. If greedis the motivation for what you do, itwill eventually take over your life, because “greed has no other assign-ment than to take the life of itsowner”. Anything built on greedwill eventually self-destruct and col-lapse.

Faithfulness is a vital virtue inkeeping true riches. Faithfulness isrequired to grow and maintainwhatever is entrusted to us, whetherbig or small. God will not entrusttrue riches to you if you are notfaithful in little. Every money orprofit we make in life has in it: one,a part that must be given to God inhonour of His provision and powerto make wealth (tithe); two, a part tobe invested or sown back into thelives of other people who do nothave (seed); and three, a part foryour consumption (bread). The wayyou spend money is an indicator ofyour faithfulness and values in life.

We must change the way we dobusiness, ministry or live our livesto accommodate other people whocan help us. Find partners and goodpeople who can stand with you.Commanding true riches is not asolo project. The planet is not struc-tured for us to make it on our own.God may give vision to one but thepower of execution to another.

True riches are promises fromGod if we seek Him with the wholeof our hearts. Matthew 6:32 says‘seek ye first the kingdom of Godand His righteousness and everyother thing will be added to you’.

The blessing of true riches isadded to us when we find thekingdom and His righteousness. It is God’s good pleasure to blessus but He expects our hearts to befocused on Him. The true reasonwhy we should want prosperity, riches and favour should be forGod’s kingdom. When we are intotal alignment with Him, we willattract blessing and have a lastingheritage.

There is no human being withoutability or God given resources. Godhas given talent to every humanbeing according to their ability. When the spirit dimension comesupon our natural ability, we havethe supernatural grace to experienceincrease and profit. There are ninecategories of Christian enterpriseand nine gifts of the Spirit. Theserepresent what each individual hasto meet the needs in the society. Anunderstanding of who we are willenable us to know what we have totrade. The various parts of thehuman body represent differenttypes of individuals’ God givenabilities to meet the needs in the so-ciety. These are:

HANDS: The hand types of abil-ities are creative people who usetheir hands to create unusual thingse.g. sculptors, designers, writers, tennis players etc.

FOOT: The foot types are out-door people, always on the move. These are suppliers and contractors, footballers etc.

EAR: The ear types are specta-tors and very attentive people whopick up the vibrations of God inform of news and all kind of infor-mation. They are mostly investorsand brokers who deal in stocks andbonds. They are prophetic in theirhearings.

EYE: The eye types are visionar-ies and dreamers who make some-thing out of nothing. They seepotential in junks and spot thingsothers don’t see.

NOSE: The nose is the bridgethat connects the eye to the mouth.

Soalsoare thesetypes of people. They are wheelerdealers, who smell dealsafar off and love the hunt. They can navigate well and are peo-ple oriented.

THROAT: These types of peopledo not just mutter, they sing verysonorously. They are singers whocan bring down the presence of Godand feed your soul through theirvoices.

MOUTH: These are highly per-suasive people with the ability tocarry people along and convincethem. They are orators and motiva-tional speakers, salesmen, newscast-ers, politicians etc.

HEART: The heart types arevery passionate people. These arecarers, nurses, compassionate work-ers etc.

HEAD: These are co-ordinatorswith the ability to search. They arepolicy formulators who conceiveconcepts. They make good chief ex-ecutive officers, as they think thingsthrough.

Many of these types can be com-bined abilities in a person as long asthey are naturally given to you byGod. His blessing will come uponyour natural ability. Pursue Godand He will entrust you with silverand gold to meet your needs. This isthe key to wealth and true RICHES.Our aim however, should be to savehuman lives and souls. All that Godhas given to us is for this purpose. When we do this, we will becomeTrustees of His riches, and we willspend from Jehovah’s Pocket. Godbless you richly.

“Oh yes, he knows his job alright, but you cannot trust or rely on him”!And with that comment, the opportu-nity went to another person! Have youheard such comments before aboutsomeone being considered for a promo-tion or a business offer? I have seen thismany times. They occur in momentswhen people’s character – not theirC.V.; not their faith; not their race; nottheir academics etc . But simply, theircharacter determines whether they stayor break the limit to their next level. Ihave seen many beautiful ladies walkedpast gentlemen, who proposed to theirbetter mannered but less attractivefriend.

You cannot separate the future of atree from its nature. The nature of a treedetermines the fruit it bears. An orangetree cannot bring forth a mango fruit, neither can a pear tree bring forth applefruit.

Mat 7:19 – Every tree that bringethforth not good fruit is hewned down andcast into fire.

This means that absence of goodfruits will terminate any great destiny. The future is dashed because it is notbringing forth good fruits. Hence, it isyour nature that determines your fu-ture. Your habit determines your habi-tat. It is nature that separates a well

dressed Chimp to a well dressed man.Having a successful future is not aproduct of chance, but a task that has tobe consciously worked at.

This is why character is crucial.Character is the building blocks withwhich great futures are built. Manypeople are excellent in their field of en-deavour, but almost every opportunityto rise higher passes them by, why? They lack the character required tomatch the aspired new position. Char-acter is not a gift, it is a choice. You havethe personal responsibility to cultivate agood character. The quality of yourcharacter is the foundation of how greatyour future will be.

No matter how well God’s hand isupon an individual to succeed, it willtake good character for the individualnot to jeopardise their own destiny. Ittakes good character to walk in God’sfavour. Daniel, Joseph, David & Ruth-just to mention a few people in theBible. People who had God’s favourwith them in difficult circumstance. Buteach of these people worked it out withsound character. On the other hand,Samson was man predestined to ruleand reign with power. His bad charac-ter however, led him to a shortlivedtenure. Character is a combination ofmannerisms or attitudes built over time.

These are either attitudes towards God,towards authority; towards life; to-wards people – known or strangers; to-wards work and so on. Someone oncesaid, attitudes determine altitudes! Howtrue.

Every newyear, I see a lot ofpeople set goals. They want toachieve some-thing better thanthe previousyear. They wantto finish a collegedegree, a profes-sional qualifica-tion they hadabandoned, they want to serve God bet-ter, buy a bigger house; get a new jobetc. Very few people set goals of im-proving their character. 2 Pet 1:5-10 –says amongst other things, add virtureto your faith. Virtue means character.

As we open a new chapter in 2010,my prayer for us as we aim higher, isthat we will improve in Character, dropoff old unproductive mannerism, dropoff loftiness and pride. Embrace theprocess that builds a better character forRenewed Strength. For more ofthese, come with us to the nextService – every Sunday at 10 a.m.

The importance ofself esteem in allhuman beingscan not be overemphasised, this

is especially true with chil-dren as it helps to providethe confidence required to besuccessful in life.

The role of parents in theattainment of self esteem in achild’s life is crucial as theresult could either be posi-tive or negative.

Self esteem or self worthis an accurate perception of oneself and others based on thetruth of God’s word.

Helping to develop chil-dren’s self esteem begins withlove and appreciation. Weshould endeavour to ac-knowledge their strengthsand weaknesses in a positive

manner. While showing love, refrain from pro-viding them with everything they ask for bybalancing their importance.

Children should be taught to be humble andrespect all human beings regardless of back-ground, race or colour, thereby developinghealthy relationships in the society.

As parents we ought to, make ourselves ac-cessible, say what we meanand mean what we say, amongst other things, teach them how to handlefailure, criticisms, and bul-lying.

There is a tendency thatchildren might lose theirself worth, search for loveelsewhere, and live ‘perfor-mance trapped’ lives ifthey are not properlyguided.

The points raised aboveare not exhaustive, how-ever as parents we shouldput our trust in God, as it

is only through Him we are able to raise a child success-fully and build their self esteem.
