Introduction About Savivo Based in Copenhagen and founded in early 2000s, the mission and vision of Savivo is to bring back the magic in learning. As an award-winning education e-games and apps developer, the company has the winning formula to create fun, innovative and savvy games for kids. Savivo’s bestsellers include Mingoville English, Mondiso Math and Fun Clock.
Learning Philosophy At Savivo we take pride in our educational programs and games, we believe that education is the foundation of the future. We develop educational content for children everywhere, from the US in the west, to China in the east.
The key to our success can be found in our learning philosophy. Part of what makes our programs so accessible is our dialogue-based approach to communication. By explaining the topics and subjects, we get to put them into a context and explain not only the “how” but also the “why”.
Where most educational online tools today are text-based exercises with linear progression, Savivo offers a different learning environment, where kids learn by doing. Children play different thematic missions that allow them to discover new subjects at their own pace.
The Mingoville English Handbook This handbook contains the specifications for the two levels of Mingoville English for Primary and Preschool. The first part focuses on the Mingoville Curriculum aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and a range of primary school tests like TOEFL Primary and Cambridge English Young Learners (YLE). The second part includes a detailed content mapping between Mingoville English and Cambridge Young Learners English (YLE) with a Grammar and Structures Map and Topic and Vocabulary Map. The third part outlines the efficacy data measurements and highlights quotes from academic research done on Mingoville English. Finally, there is a Teacher’s Handbook with easy to use 1-page introduction plans with objectives, activities and vocabulary for each of the topics in the Mingoville English for Primary program.

English Tests for Primary School TOEFL Primary The TOEFL® Primary™ tests are assessments from ETS that help to shape young students' English-language instruction. The TOEFL Primary Step 1 test is designed for students at the beginning stages of learning English. The TOEFL Primary Step 2 test is designed for students who have acquired some communicative skills in English. Cambridge Young Learners (YLE) – Starters, Movers, Flyers The Cambridge English: Young Learners tests are produced by Cambridge English Language Assessment (part of the University of Cambridge). These tests are for learners in primary and lower secondary education. The Cambridge Young Learners English Tests consist of three key levels of assessment: Starters, Movers and Flyers. The three tests together form a bridge to take children learning English as a second language from beginner to Waystage level (A2).
Framework of Reference The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is a widely used tool for understanding different stages of language development and proficiency. It was designed to provide a transparent, coherent and comprehensive basis for the elaboration of language syllabuses and curriculum guidelines, the design of teaching and learning materials, and the assessment of foreign language proficiency.

Mingoville English for Primary (School Edition) – Stars and feathers Mingoville English for Primary has stars and feathers that show the students’ progress in the game play.
Stars Stars represent how well a student has done in each activity:
• One star – a student completed less than 65% of tasks correctly • Two stars – a student completed between 65% and 86% of tasks correctly • Three stars – a student completed over 86% of tasks correctly
Feathers and levels Students earn feathers to move from one level to another. They receive a feather when they gain a sufficient amount of points in the game. A student also receives a feather every time he or she masters a new word in the dictionary (record it ten times). Each time a student must earn more feathers to progress to the next level:
• Level 1 – earn 3 feathers • Level 2 – earn 4 feathers • Level 3 – earn 5 feathers • Level 4 – earn 6 feathers and so on
Mingoville Preschool – the Reward Tree To keep the children motivated and encourage them to move forward in the program, Savivo has implemented a reward tree that grows at the same pace as the children’s knowledge. The tree is fully-grown when a mission is completed. The feature has been proven to work and Savivo can see a positive influence on the Mingoville Preschool app’s conversion rate after implementing it.
Progress Data Savivo is collecting and storing the following data for the Mingoville English programs:
-‐ Time spent in each activity -‐ Attempts -‐ Results
The data is stored using Tin Can API (before: SCORM) and can be transferred to other systems, such as Learning Management Systems, for educational purposes.

Furthermore, we found that the children who played the game showed a higher level of motivation compared to the children who followed a traditional English class. The serious game ‘Mingoville’ therefore potentially involves a higher motivational factor which in his turn could lead to enhanced learning outcomes.”
