FROM the PASTOR’s DESK
We are repeating Fr. Wright’s letter from last weekend My Dear Parishioners,
As many of you already know, I will be retiring as a pastor on June 1 of this year. As I face the process of packing up my personal belongings, I am trying to find good homes for them.
Some of you also know that I am a model train collector. I have quite the layout set up in the basement of the rectory. It is HO scale, surrounded by villages, all of which I have built myself. Are there any parents or grandparents who would like to have this set for their children or grandchildren? Please
let me know. There is no cost for you except to pay it forward!
Peace & Love,
Our Grand Annual Collection
Thank you once again to all who made a Grand Annu-al donation or pledge. Add thanks to all those remem-bering to make the payments on their pledge. If you have not yet donated, but would like to, it’s never too late! We are still about $30,000 short of our goal, so the parish could surely use your help. Thank you.
SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW By Harry Feldmann, pastoral associate
Today is Laetare(Rejoice)Sunday. The Entrance Antiphon expresses: "Rejoice, Jerusalem, and all who love her." St. Paul tells us "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say Re-joice. Let your gentleness be evident that the Lord is near." (Phil 4:4) This Sunday is a reminder that Christians are called to be a Joyful people because of the Resurrection of Christ. Lent is a time focusing on the fact that we "believe in the resurrection of the body." A time of Joy.
In Douglas Abraham’s The Book of Joy the Dali Lama and Archbishop Tutu make a distinction between Happiness and Joy: "Joy is much bigger than happiness. While happiness is often seen in being dependent on external circumstances, joy is not. In the book they share how to live with joy in the face of life's inevitable sorrows. They explain how joy can be-come a lasting way of being. They mention that there are obstacles to Joy. They are: Fear, Stress and Anxiety; Frustra-tion and Anger; Sadness and Grief; Despair that the world is in such turmoil and Loneliness.
Here are the Eight Pillars of Joy:
1. Perspective - There are many different angles;
2. Humility - “Whenever I see someone, may I never feel supe-rior.”
3. Humor - Laughter, joking is much better;
4. Acceptance - the only place where change can begin;
5. Forgiveness - freeing ourselves from the past;
6. Gratitude - I am fortunate to be alive;
7. Compassion - with it, you have all other virtues
8. Generosity - will help you to find your Joy.
If we are to rejoice in the Lord always, we better get busy erecting these Pillars. The book may be helpful.

We might think of candles and light more during the Advent sea-son than during Lent, due to Advent wreaths, candles in win-dows, and the light of a star. But the real focus on light, as seen in this week's Gospel, is during Lent, when we prepare for Easter and Jesus' triumphant rising from the dead. It is in this game-
changing event that the light of Christ destroys the power of dark-ness.
If you have never been to an Easter Vigil, why not plan on attend-ing this year? The theme of light is so prevalent, with procession-al candles everywhere and the new Paschal candle being lit for the first time. The candle is then plunged into the baptismal font before it is used for sacraments, breaking into the darkness of our sin. Through these waters, men and women will be washed clean and the darkness they were born into will exist no more. Their blindness of original sin will be healed and they will not only be able to see, they will be new creations in Christ.
This Lent, before it is all over, spend time in prayer and use a candle to focus. Reflect on your life and determine what areas you need the light of Christ to shine. Then when Easter comes, know that the One who is the light is shining brighter than ever so that that you may be in darkness no more.
Living Stations: Would your child like to help bring the Stations of the Cross to life at the 3:00 PM Service on Good Friday this year (March 30)?Consider having your child be a part of our annual tradition this Holy Week.
Practices will be held on Wednesday afternoons, March 14, 21 and 28 @ 3:00 in the upper church. All children are welcome to join us. For more infor-mation, contact [email protected] or call her at the rectory 617-696-0120.
