Milpitas Community Band and Arts

Be A Part of the Band The Milpitas Community Concert Band (MCCB), under the direction of Jeff Yaeger, is comprised of musicians with various backgrounds coming together to make music! The band continues to provide a supportive and interesting outlet for its members’ musical growth, as well as providing an entertaining experience for its audiences and the community! In addition to band standards, MCCB performs a variety of marches, musical/Broadway selections, classical pieces, transcriptions and forgotten gems – some of which haven’t been performed in the Bay Area in decades.

MCCB performs several family-friendly concerts throughout the year and is a treasured musical presence at the City of Milpitas’ annual Veterans Day Ceremony and Holiday Tree Lighting events. The MCCB is always actively seeking new members who play Flute, any size Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, any size Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Baritone Horn/Euphonium, Tuba, or Percussion. Musicians of various levels and ages are welcome to join. If you are an active performer or haven’t played in years, there’s a place for you in MCCB! Rehearsals are held Thursdays, 7:30P.M.-9:30P.M., at the Barbara Lee Senior Center (40 N. Milpitas Blvd). The yearly registration fee is $30 per member.

The Milpitas Community Concert Band continues its 25th season with this lineup of concerts. All MCCB concerts are designed to entertain you and your family. They are always admission free and end with a small reception and light refreshments. Donations are accepted at concerts (suggested $2 per person) and all proceeds are used solely for the band’s benefit.

Janet Franco-VelezArt Show: March 18 - May 10https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/janet-francovelez.html

Senior Center Spring Art ShowArt Show: February 4-28

Participants in the Senior Center’s Chinese Brush Painting classes and Chinese Calligraphy program will have their art on display at the Milpitas Phantom Art Gallery in February. A reception for the artists will take place on Tuesday, February 26 at 10:30A.M.

Janet cultivated her interest in art through books. She was particularly captivated by the Impressionist artist--Claude Monet, the master of light and color. She was attracted by his extensive use of primary and secondary colors in his paintings.

Janet studied Information Systems in college and built a professional career in computer software. Although very successful in her chosen profession, her love for Monet’s paintings remained very strong.

In her spare time, she took art classes where she studied Two-Dimensional Art Design, Color and Life Drawing.

After meeting with a friend who was taking classes in oil painting, her interest in painting was rekindled and she began her study of oil painting. Her paintings have the same feel as that of Monet--soft, light and easy strokes. ‘I love loading my brush with pure color and passionately painting the beauty in nature. I find subjects for my artwork everywhere and strive to reflect the beauty of nature in all I paint.’

Janet has been painting for six years now. She is determined to improve her skills as an oil painter by participating in artists workshops, lectures and classes as well as painting in her studio at home.

My wish for my viewers is that they see with refreshed eyes, all the beauty, light, energy and color existing in the immediate surroundings and in nature, when they view my paintings.

Refuse, Reduce and Reuse Before You Recycle!

Small changes in your purchasing habits and daily routine can make a big impact!

REPAIR INSTEAD OF PURCHASE. Before you replace an item, see if it can be repaired. If you do purchase something new, find the highest quality/longest lasting most durable option possible.

OPT FOR USED PRODUCTS. Reuse what you already have or purchase a “gently used” item from a resale/thrift shop. Browse resale websites or share/trade items with friends and neighbors.

AVOID PURCHASING PRODUCTS WITH EXCESSIVE PACKAGING. Choose items with sustainable, reusable and recyclable packaging. Avoid single-serve and single-use items. Skip the straw at restaurants.

CHOOSE REUSABLES. Shop with reusable bags and totes, bring your travel mug to the coffee shop and carry a reusable water bottle with you!

STOP UNWANTED MAIL. Reduce paper in your recycling cart.Remove your address from direct mail registries at: www.DirectMail.com. Discontinue unwanted catalogs at: www.CatalogChoice.org.Prevent automatic phonebook deliveries at: www.YellowPagesOptOut.com.

Trash Talk – Keeping the Recycling Stream Clean! Many times something you may think is recyclable actually isn’t. Items that are not recyclable cause contamination, damage sorting machinery, and make it so recyclables end up in a landfill.

Make sure everything you put into the blue split Recyclables cart is recyclable.

Common Wishcycled Items that do not belong in the Blue Split Recyclables cart: • Chip/snack packaging • Film plastic/plastic wrap• Crockery/dishware• Styrofoam (blocks, food ware, packaging peanuts)• Bubble wrap• CDs & VHS tapes• Plastic plates/cups/cutlery• Small appliances

The cleanest and most efficient sorting starts with you, the generator.

• Please remember to place recyclable materials only in your blue split or dedicated recyclables carts and/or bins. • Empty and rinse all recyclable plastic, metal and glass containers to prevent contamination. • Garbage, Food Scraps, Yard Trimmings and Hazardous Waste, such as household batteries and lightbulbs, DO NOT belong in the recycling containers!

For a list of what belongs in each cart, common contaminants, and links to how to properly dispose of hazardous waste, visit www.MilpitasSanitation.com.
