 Tips • Please be aware of the program

to which you are applying. Applying for a charter lottery seat is not the same thing as applying for admission to an academy. If you apply for a charter lottery seat, but not an academy, you will not get into an academy.

• “Magnet” and “Academy” are not synonymous!

• The Office of Student Integration accepts eChoices Magnet applications. They can be reached at 213-241-4177.

• Most students accepted into Millikan MS Magnet have at least 12 points.

• Magnet students take dance in lieu of P.E. and take performing arts electives.

Charter Lottery Seat – Neighborhood School

þ Charter Lottery application – due 4 p.m. 2/15/18

• Obtaining a seat in the neighborhood school does not mean that your child will attend an academy. Acceptance into an academy is based on the merit of your child’s application to that academy.

• Neighborhood School students will take P.E. in lieu of dance.

AND þ Performing Arts Academy application (available at millikanmiddleschool.org) – due 4 p.m. 1/31/18

AND þ Audition (you must sign up online for an audition date)

The Performing Arts Academy application requires: • submission of standardized test scores • submission of grades • an audition

o vocal/dance/acting dates: 2/10/18, 2/17/18 and 2/24/18 OR

o instrumental music dates: 2/6/18, 2/20/18, 2/27/18

• Performing Arts Academy students take dance in lieu of P.E. and take performing arts electives.

Charter Lottery Seat – Cinematic Arts Academy @ Millikan (CAAM)

þ Charter Lottery application – due 4 p.m. 2/15/18

The Cinematic Arts Academy @ Millikan application requires: • submission of standardized test scores • submission of grades • an essay • a link to an example of the student’s

filmmaking o Film should be 3-5 minutes in length o Subject matter may include:

Documentaries, Short Narratives, School Projects etc.

þ Charter Lottery application – due 4 p.m. 2/15/18

AND þ Math Academy application (available at millikanmiddleschool.org) – due 1/31/18

AND þ Math Assessment – administered 2/6/18

The Math Academy application requires: • submission of standardized test scores • submission of grades (marks of D, F or U in

any course will disqualify your math academy application)

• an exam. Your application is your sign-up for the exam, administered on 2/6/18.

Many parents choose to apply to more than one program (e.g. Magnet and Performing Arts Academy, or Math Academy and CAAM) to improve their child’s odds of obtaining a seat. This can only help, not hurt your child’s odds of being accepted into a program at Millikan.
