MISSION/VISION/GOALS

MISSIONThe mission of the Department of Athletics at Millersville University is to develop future leaders by cultivating an environment that promotes education, community engagement, and personal growth and development through athletics. The depart-ment supports the mission of the University by providing equitable opportunities for student-athletes to participate in a high-caliber intercollegiate athletics program that values integrity and ethical conduct, academic excellence, athletic achievement, and student-athlete welfare.

VISIONThe Department of Athletics will place emphasis on the student-athlete experience as a comprehensive program of learning and development in pursuit of both aca-demic and athletic excellence. Our approach provides opportunities for growth and education through participation in high-level athletic competition as well as develop-ment of positive societal attitudes through service to the community.

STRATEGIC GOALS1. Provide a high quality athletic, academic, and socially developmental experience that will prepare student-athletes for life after college.

2. Continue to provide a comprehensive academic support program that will impact and advance the academic success of student-athletes.

3. Continue to develop and enhance policies and operational procedures to effec-tively facilitate a culture of compliance and ethical conduct within the department and throughout the University.

4. Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion throughout the department.

5. Sustain and continue to improve the quality of the student-athlete experience while efficiently maximizing economic resources and being fiscally prudent.

6. Position athletic teams to contend at the conference, regional, and national levels.

7. Serve and embrace the greater Millersville/Lancaster community through the department’s on-going community service and engagement initiatives.

Millersville Marauders

WOMEN’S SOCCERA 4-0 start landed the Marauders’ a national ranking for the first time in 11 years. The Marauders rose to No. 9 in Division II after a 5-0-1 record marked the best start in program history.

WELCOMEDirector of Athletics Peg Kauffman

During the 2013-14 academic year, our athletic programs have continued to demonstrate a commitment to excel-lence during competition, in the community, and most importantly in the classroom. This past year has been one of the most successful years in recent history with seven teams advancing to the conference playoffs, two PSAC Championships, and three teams advancing to NCAA regional tournaments. This year was also marked by numerous individual accolades for our student-athletes and coaches both locally and nationally. In addition to our success in competition, our student-athletes have totaled over 2,000 hours of community service and continue to graduate at a higher rate than the general undergraduate population.

We are proud of the achievements of our student-athletes. Our administration, coaches, and support staff are committed to providing them with a high quality experience during their time at Millersville. In order to fulfill our commitment to our student-athletes and strive for broad-based sustained excellence across all sports, we rely heavily on the generosity of our donors to achieve our financial goals for scholar-ships and other program needs. During these challenging economic times, we need your support more than ever.

Through your contributions, we are able to provide the resources necessary to contin-ue to support our student-athletes and coaches, as well as recruit the most qualified students that will continue the Marauder tradition. Thank you for your commitment to our student-athletes and Millersville athletics.

Go Marauders!

MILLERSVILLE FOOTBALL’SMARAUDER SCHOLAR

When head football coach Greg Breitbach was hired in April of 2012, he made it clear that his players were going to be significant contributors to the community. Community service became an essential part of his Ma-rauder Scholar Program. Even while balancing class work and the rigors of in-season practice and games, the football team was routinely work-ing in the community throughout the week. In one academic year, the team compiled over 1,000 hours of community service by washing win-dows, cleaning up parks, visiting the elderly, reading to elementary school students and more. Some of the organizations include:

• Into the Streets - Buchanan Park• St. Baldrick’s Foundation• Lancaster County Extraordinary Give• Oak Leaf Manor• Penn Manor District Schools• Local Youth Football Programs• Harrisburg Senators Youth Football Day• Humane League• Pet Pantry• Lancaster Science FactoryJESSE MOWEN

Baseball • Sr. • Pitcher“I love giving back to the community and help-ing younger athletes. Being a role model is the best thing you can be for a young athlete. Having them look up to me and the rest of my team mates will only help them step foot in the right direction.”
