Office of the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense
Military Community and Family Policy
MEMORANDUM for Schools, Agencies, and other MyCAA Payees 8 April 2009 Subject: Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) To benefit military spouses and their families, Department of Defense is partnering with schools and other agencies to support military spouses in pursuit of education, training, licensing, credentialing, and employment in high growth, high demand portable careers. Your school or agency can help military spouses access up to $6,000 in Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) Financial Assistance. There is no cost for a school to participate. Just follow these simple steps.
• Sign up TODAY to become a MyCAA partner school, agency or organization by visiting DoD’s AI Portal (https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/aiportal/Register.aspx ). Identify and register a ‘user’ from your billing department in this virtual online payment system. Enter the information for your ‘user’ and choose your organization in “Lookup School.”
• Ask your academic advisors and financial assistance counselors to coach military
spouses in selecting a “career goal” and choosing classes or programs from your school or organization to meet that goal. These classes or programs are then documented by each military spouse in his/her “Career Plan” available in the “Career” section of the spouse’s MyCAA account. Information about MyCAA, including contacts for technical assistance and MyCAA Career/Education Consultants, is available at https://www.militaryonesource.com/ . Follow the link near the bottom of the page to Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts . If you see a pop-up window before the page opens, pull down to DoD (civilian). The page should then open.
• Ensure that military spouses have applied and been accepted at your school or
organization, enrolled in their selected courses of study or other related programs, and requested Financial Assistance through MyCAA ( https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa/ ).
• Have your school’s registered ‘user’ submit electronic invoices at DoD’s AI Portal
(https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/aiportal) at the start of each term or block of study. A DoD Government Purchase Card will be used to pay invoices promptly.
• In order to ensure the highest quality education service delivery possible, MyCAA is
advising all participating military spouses, schools and organizations that DoD’s Servicemember Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Student Bill of Rights (see attachment) applies to them. Thank you for sharing this Student Bill of Rights with all of your staff members who work with military spouses.
If you or your staff have questions or need assistance regarding MyCAA participation or Financial Assistance invoicing processes, please contact the MyCAA School Liaison at [email protected].
