Geography of Sparta
Located in the region of Laconia, in south eastern Peloponnese
The Evrotas river gave them fresh water
They had the non-citizens (Helots or Perioeci) do there farming for the region
The average temperature yearly is about 64 to 68 degrees F.
Food Source
Did not do much farming because the Helots, or slaves did it for them
Half of the crops belonged to the aristocrats and the other half belonged to the Helots
Grew grapes, olives, figs, apples, and cherries
Made a lot of different breads because of how much wheat and barley they grew
Government
Two kings that ruled jointly
Very strong military
Very weak in their farming abilities
The Assembly was made up of male citizens and made many decisions for Sparta
Religion
The gods dwelled on Mount Olympus in Thessaly
Hades was considered as the god of the underworld and Zeus was the god of the heavens. Thought highly of Zeus
Architecture
Three distinct types of architecture
Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian
Doric architecture predominantly used by Spartans
Doric architecture had thicker columns

The men and boys would be soldiers
