Guidance from the State

• The goal for the fall is the safe return of as many students as possible to in-person school settings, to maximize learning and address our students’ holistic needs.

• Provide a clear set of health and safety requirements for in-person learning this fall, grounded in the most up-to-date scientific literature and discussions with expert medical advisors.

• Require districts and schools to prepare a reopening plan that addresses three possible learning models for the fall: in-person learning with new safety requirements, a hybrid of in-person and remote learning, and remote learning.

• Future guidance is expected around transportation, feeding students, music programming, and other areas.

What could reopening school look like this fall?• We will be in one of three models when we reopen: in-person with

new safety requirements, hybrid, or remote learning. Families will also have a choice to enter a fully remote year long model.

• Both in person and remote learning will look and feel different than in the past.

• Which model we enter into will be determined by public health data and local factors.

• The state is expecting most districts to be on the same model at the same time based on public health data.

Health and Safety Practices

• Students in grade 2 and above are required to wear masks or face coverings. Younger students will be encouraged and expected to wear masks or face coverings. Families are expected to provide masks or face coverings for students.

• All adults in the building are required to wear masks or face coverings.

• Mask breaks will be scheduled and occur throughout the day for students.

• Masks or face coverings are required to be worn by everyone on the bus during school bus transportation.

Health and Safety Practices (cont.)

• As reviewed and advised by the Massachusetts COVID-19 Command Center Medical Advisory Group, schools should aim for a physical distance of six feet when feasible, and three feet is the minimum distance allowed.

• Additional safety precautions are required for school nurses or any staff supporting students with disabilities in close proximity when distance is not possible.

• To the extent feasible elementary schools should aim to keep students in the same group throughout the day and middle and high schools are encouraged to minimize mixing student groups.

Health and Safety Practices (cont.)

• Students and staff are required to exercise hand hygiene through handwashing or sanitizing upon arrival to school, before eating, before putting on and taking off masks, and before dismissal.

• Enhanced cleaning practices and protocols which include disinfecting each room in each building will occur each evening.

• If students, faculty, or staff are sick they should stay home.

or remote.

• Attendance will be taken for both in-person and remote learning.

• Students will be assessed and graded based on previous practices at each school and level.

In-Person Learning with New Safety Requirements• All students return in person to school settings that are appropriately

modified to accommodate health and safety requirements.

• Pre-School to Grade 4 students: Transitions are limited throughout the day and students spend most of their time in self contained classrooms.

• Grade 5, Middle School, and High School: Transitions are limited throughout the day and students may engage in fewer courses at any one time. Stacy Middle School will move to a schedule where they will take fewer classes during a given day. Milford High School will move to a schedule where students will take four classes per semester at a time.

• We expect to provide more detailed schedules shortly.

Hybrid Learning

• Students learn both in-person and remotely.

• Classrooms will be split where one group works remotely from home for a period of time and another group works in school.

• The remote portion will be accomplished through a combination of work provided by faculty members and online resources.

• We expect to provide more detailed schedules shortly.

17

Remote Learning

• Learning takes place remotely.

• This will be different from the experience in the Spring.

• At the elementary level teachers will engage directly with students each day through ZOOM.

• At the secondary level students will follow a daily schedule of ZOOM classes presented by teachers.

18

Fully Remote Year Long Option

• Families can choose this program for the year for their students.

• Learning takes place remotely.

• This will be different from the experience in the Spring.

• At the elementary level teachers will engage directly with students each day through ZOOM.

• At the secondary level students will be placed in a combination of remote sections with Milford Public School teachers and online self directed courses (where the number of students at a particular grade level or class cannot support a full section of students). Students will be expected to follow a course schedule and participate in all scheduled ZOOM sessions with teachers.

• Students are expected to attend all classes and complete all assigned work and their work will be assessed and graded.

What are we doing to prepare for the Fall?

• Finalizing schedules for each model at each building-this information will be released shortly.

• Determining student capacity for each room in the district; we expect this work to be completed this week.

• Developing plans and protocols for every aspect of the day including arrival and dismissal, transitions within the building, mask breaks, using the restroom, school visitation or drop off of materials, breakfast and lunch, and a number of other areas.

• We are providing professional development for our faculty and staff.

• We are planning sessions for parents and guardians to better support remote learning.

What we still need to know

• Transportation guidelines from the state

• Feeding guidelines from the state

• The number of families who choose the Fully Remote Year Long Option for their children

• We will send a transportation survey to families who are eligible for the bus next week.

• We will ask families to commit to either the School Model or the Fully Remote Year Long Option the week of July 20th.
