Milestone Anniversaries
From the President Jason Siener, President
This past weekend the Country Club of
Paducah was represented by your top golfers
in both the Women’s and Men’s Cup Match-
es, and a big Congratulations goes out to the
women of the Club for their victory! The
men enjoyed a beautiful weekend for golf at
Paxton Park and while making a much im-
proved run on Sunday it wasn’t quite enough
for a win.
As you know we launched a nationwide
search for our new General Manager several
weeks ago with our search firm Kopplin
Kuebler & Wallace. I thought this would be
a good time to give you an update on our
progress.
Having advertised the position through sev-
eral industry mediums and relying on our
search firm’s vast network of contacts in the
industry for recruiting, I think it is safe to say
we have had an excellent response to our
efforts. Kopplin Kuebler & Wallace has be-
gun the process of vetting the top tiered ap-
plicants to recommend to the board of direc-
tors for review based on the criteria estab-
lished by the board early in this process. My
understanding is that a wide range of appli-
cants from rising stars, and experienced suc-
cessful golf and country club executives are
in the mix of candidates being recommended
to us.
The Board of Directors, in partnership with
and the guidance of our search firm, will
then select the top 4 or 5 candidates that they
would like to interview. Once the candidates
have been selected, Kopplin Kuebler & Wal-
lace will conduct their deep background and
reference checking, along with having them
take a skills and behavioral assessment.
The Board of Directors will conduct a full
day of interviewing the candidates with the
intention of narrowing the selection to one or
two candidates. Those candidates would then
come back to the Club for a final round of
interviews. From there, a final candidate
decision will be made. We expect that all of
this will transpire in the next few weeks.
The search process is moving in a fruitful
and timely manner thanks to the excellent
guidance of our Board of Directors and
search firm. I will report on our final deci-
sion just as soon as we can. Thank you for
your patience as we conduct this important
assignment on behalf of the Country Club of
Paducah.
Sincerely,
Jason Siener

A Big Thank You to the following members for hosting or sponsoring an event at the Club in September
October 2017 Page 3
Fall back and spring forward. We might be falling back to
cooler weather but the Club is looking forward to a few
small positive changes.
Our new waitstaff uniforms are looking good and the
staff (well most of them ) are excited about the new
color. I believe it puts a little zip to our professional team.
In the kitchen, Chef Billy continues to impress us with
some very good dishes. It’s exciting to see Chef work
with our kitchen staff on a professional level. By the way,
we now serve Mug root beer and Chef is currently serv-
ing up a frosty root beer float as part of the
biweekly specials menu.
The new Russ Cochran display in the Ken-
tucky dining area is impressive. It’s being
honorably presented by his friends and
colleagues of our Club. With board ap-
proval, we are upgrading our look in the
foyer and hallway to our boardroom. I
hope you will like the new flooring at the
main entrance to the clubhouse.
Ciao for now, Bob
In the Dining Room Bob Hoppmann, Dining Room Manager
Natalie Broster, Banquet & Events Manager On the Social Scene
Fall is here and it’s bringing some fun events with it!
How do you feel about all-you-can-eat lobster tails? Be-
cause that’s what’s coming to your Club on Friday, Octo-
ber 3rd! Executive Chef Billy will be serving up a full buf-
fet of delicious selections featuring never ending lobster
tails! Check out the flyer for more information on this buf-
fet.
Speaking of good food, don’t forget to
sign up for our “Hallo-Wine” dinner on
Thursday, October 19th. “Hallo-Wine”
Dinner is a special twist on our very pop-
ular wine dinners. Be prepared for a
spooky night in a spectacular Halloween atmosphere with
devilishly delicious red and white wines. Chef Billy will
be serving up specialty food that will NOT disappoint!
For the kids – let’s get one last fishing trip in! Join us on
Monday, October 23rd at 4:30 PM for our Fall Fishing
Derby on hole #2. There are two age ranges for prizes:
7 & under / 8 & over. Prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and
3rd place in each age range for the longest fish.
See you at the Club!

Pro’s Corner
It’s hard to believe the month of October is already upon
us. Hopefully, we are now done with the heat and humid-
ity of the summer months. Unfortunately, the seasonal
change brings less daylight, falling leaves and dormancy
to the zoysia fairways.
Along with the change in temperatures comes the arrival
of our fall merchandise in the Golf Shop. I greatly appre-
ciate how the membership has supported the Golf Shop in
my first season here at CCP. As we move forward into
fall, I am excited for our members to explore the golf and
lifestyle options that will be available in your Golf Shop.
Over the next few months, please plan to stop by the Golf
Shop as we will have new men’s arrivals from Southern
Tide, Straight Down, FootJoy, & Donald Ross. On the
Ladies front, we will begin receiving new shipments from
Antigua and FootJoy Leisure.
Very rarely will I take the time to single out one specific
club company for their innovation, but this is one of those
times. On October 1st we will receive the fitting and trial
components from Titleist for the new 718 series of irons.
The new AP3 iron is hands down one of the best looking
and easy to hit irons that I have ever hit. If you would like
to try any of the new line up of AP irons please contact
the Golf Shop and we will be glad to schedule a fitting
appointment. With the benefit of member pricing and my
expertise as a certified Titleist fitter these clubs will be a
great value and opportunity to improve your game.
With the golf course experiencing its first stages of winter
dormancy, I would like to take this opportunity to address
some important steps in general course maintenance and
etiquette to help keep CCP looking beautiful throughout
the upcoming months. First, let me remind everyone of
the importance of filling in the fairway divots with sand.
The zoysia grass growth and healing season is slowing,
and every unfilled divot will soon begin to show. The
second issue is to ensure that everyone continues to repair
all the ball marks.
With the golf calendar beginning to slow please keep your
golf professionals in mind for any instruction or equip-
ment needs that you may have. Lastly, if you have any
questions or concerns, I will be more than willing to listen
and help in any way that I can. I hope everyone enjoys
the fall season and I look forward to seeing you on the
course!
Thank you for your support and participation!

2017 CCP Fall Varsity Golf Program:
Your PGA Professionals would like to offer a fall junior
golf program geared towards our juniors who are playing
competitively or are looking to begin playing competitive-
ly. This program is a great way to keep your junior
golfer’s fundamentals sharp, as well as continuing to learn
course management. The Varsity Program will meet on
Tuesdays from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the months of Octo-
ber & November for a total of 6 clinics. Within these
clinics we will offer full swing and short game instruction,
as well as taking a deeper look at how to approach on
course situations, and how to manage scoring opportuni-
ties within a round. Also as part of the Varsity Program
the PGA Professional staff will tailor a practice plan for
each student, as well as map out what to work on while
the students are on the golf course. Cost per session will
be $25. Please call the CCP Golf Shop, 270-554-5330, if
you would like to enroll your junior in this program.
Fall Varsity Program Dates:
Each session will be from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. We will
also offer playing challenges following the clinic and on
other specified days

Golf Course News Larry Hantle, CGCS
Fall officially arrived with temperatures almost ten degrees
above normal. However, that is not unusual as the last month of
summer saw temperatures way below normal so it was just an
averaging out process. The one constant the last two months has
been below normal precipitation. This comes during the driest
two months average wise in the year and October is third. While
it has been dry, that is helpful because we have to irrigate more
and that means we are using the acid injected water more that
helps with the accumulation of bicarbonates in the soil.
Two noticeable effects of the water treatment are the depth/
amount of rooting of the turf and enhanced seed germination.
One of the reasons we had to aerate fairways this summer was
the lack of rooting in the zoysia. When we had to dig a hole for
irrigation repairs in the fairways, you could almost peel back the
original sod layer like it had just been put down even after three
years. After aeration, a gypsum treatment, and a summer of
treated water, the roots are 3-4 inches deep and thick and
healthy. That is why the fairway turf has drawn numerous com-
pliments from you. When we pulled cores during greens aera-
tion in late August, the roots of the bentgrass were sticking out
of the bottom of the cores. While some people will say that the
summer weather was mild causing this, it should be noted that
during other mild summers this rooting depth had not previously
been achieved.
During our research last fall on water treatment, fellow superin-
tendents we talked to said that seed germination would be phe-
nomenal. The greens were seeded during aeration and within
seven days new bentgrass plants had not only germinated but
grown to twice the height of the existing turf. It seemed that
every aeration hole had a new clump of seed growing in it. As
we begin rough seeding, we hope that experience carries over.
As the nights have gotten cooler, more ryegrass plants are visible
in the bermuda rough as they have survived the summer. Ac-
cordingly, we are going to slightly lower the seeding rate which
in conjunction with better germination, should result in more
coverage.
With a successful greens’ seeding, we have had to wait for the
new seedlings to mature before treating the greens with a growth
regulator that harms the poa annua. We hope to make this appli-
cation in early October and again in late November. The poa
should turn yellowish and be stunted in its growth. The product
will also affect any new poa seedlings that have germinated this
fall. Because the product is a growth regulator, the greens may
speed up but hopefully not to U.S. Open levels.
October is usually great golfing weather with the turf still green
and playing at its best as it starts to go dormant. The overseed in
the rough should green up as the bermuda goes off color and
staffs biggest challenge will be to keep up with the falling leaves.
The dryness is already causing some leaf drop, and we are ready-
ing the equipment for the season. September saw 3 significant
irrigation leaks that consumed a lot of time and energy. Now the
clock is ticking towards the end of the growing season and there
is still much we would like to accomplish. We look forward to
seeing you out golfing and value your feedback on course condi-
tions. See you on the course.

Junior Clinics
The season of fall is upon us but the weather of summer
still lingers. That works well for tennis players. We would
like to postpone indoor season just a little longer so we can
get all the improvements to the indoor structure in time for
winter.
Tennis Structure renovations are set to begin in the upcom-
ing weeks. The Tennis Committee, under the leadership of
Dr. Mark Gillespie, along with strong support from the
Board of Directors and special efforts by Mr. Dave Massey
have helped put the Tennis Department in a position to be
prepared for not only this winter but many winters to
come. Toward the end of October and going into early No-
vember, we will have workers milling around the indoor
structure doing work including:
• Outer Skin Panel Replacement and Repair
• Gable Curtains Replacement
• Indoor Seam Repair
We also plan to have work starting at or around the same
time on:
• Heating Unit Replacement
• Industrial Fan Installation (4)
• Upgraded Lighting
The Tennis Committee
has also rolled out the
Tennis Renovation Pro-
ject. As of the time of
writing we are right on the
cusp of 50% of our goal
of 100 pledges. We are
just now hitting our stride
and look to start closing
the distance on 100 as
soon as possible. If you
haven’t heard, read or
seen the details of this
fundraiser and would like
more information, please
contact me, or one of the Tennis Committee members, and
we will tell you all you need to know.
Friday Night Mixed Doubles is on the schedule again for
October 20. It was a great success this summer, even dur-
ing the hottest days of the year. It should be much nicer
with fall weather approaching soon. Players of all levels
are welcome. If you don’t have a partner it’s ok. We will
find you a partner or mix you in with someone during the
evening.
New Adult Clinic Schedule is out with some changes:
Ladies Cardio for 3.5+ players is now Tuesday at 5:30pm
to 6:30pm.
Ladies 2.5/3.0 Cardio is now Tuesday at 6:30pm to
7:30pm.
Wednesday AM Cardio has been taken off the schedule so
we don’t compete with the very popular, Wednesday
AM Open Pickleball Play at 10AM.
Our Junior Tennis schedule remains the same. The only
change is in the billing. New Junior Clinic Billing will be
done on a monthly basis as opposed to the previous, daily
class billing. One charge cover the whole month.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled Member – Guest
Fall Finale Event the weekend of November 11. Please
keep an eye out for more details. This event will have
something for players of all levels and abilities.
The Club Singles and Doubles Championships have been
postponed until December. A date for that event will be
announced soon.

Paducah native, Russ Cochran, turned professional
in 1979 after playing for the University of Kentucky
and earning his PGA Tour card in 1982. Russ, his
wife, Jackie, and their children, Ryan, Reed, Case
and Kelly have been members of the Country Club
of Paducah since 1983.
Cochran has 60 Top Ten finishes on the official
PGA Tour events, including ten professional wins
to his credit. His first PGA Tour win happened in
1991 at the Western Open at Cog Hill Country Club
in Chicago. Another major accomplishment was
when he set the course record (65) in the third
round of the 1996 PGA Championship at Valhalla
Golf Club. This record stood until four years later
when Jose Maria Olazabal broke it with a 63.
Russ made his debut on the PGA Champions Tour
in 2009, placing third at the US Senior Open, set-
ting a course record (64) at Crooked Stick. His
climb to the top was launched that year by winning
the Rookie of the Year award. Cochran won his
maiden Senior Major Championship at the 2011
Senior British Open at Walton Health. He credited
having his son, Reed, on the bag was “major factor
in his success.”
His contagious smile and friendly demeanor has
serves as an Ambassador Extraordinaire for
Paducah. If at any golf course around the country
the question, “Where are you from?”, is asked,
someone will always reply, “Oh! Do you know,
Lefty, Russ Cochran?”
Still active in pursuing wins on the PGA Champi-
ons Tour, The Country Club of Paducah is honored
to be a part of Russ Cochran’s legacy.

The Perfect Gift...It's time to start thinking about the gift-
giving season--the History of the Country Club of Paducah
coffee table book would be a great idea for family, friends, and
those who may not live in Paducah any longer, but would en-
joy reading the club's history. Signed, wrapped books will be
available in the golf shop for the holidays, or pick up a copy
now. Price is $40, tax included, and may be billed to your
club account.
