Describe the weather and who lives there. Draw a picture of the planet. Materials: Play Dough or Clay Optional: Kitchen Utensils, Rice, Dry Pasta, Beads, Sprinkles Miles visits all kinds of planets. Some have mountains, some are orange, and others are covered in ice. Imagine all the different ways a planet can look. Create your own planet landscape by laying modeling clay*, clay or any moldable material onto a flat surface. Mold the modeling clay to create mountains and craters. Decorate your planet using kitchen utensils** to create various textures. Add on other materials such as rice, dry pasta, sprinkles or colorful beads. To level up, use a styrofoam ball as the base of your planet. Mold the modeling clay around the ball, decorate it, and add textures. *You can make homemade modeling clay by mixing together 2 cups flour, 2 cups warm water, 1 cup salt, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon cream of tartar. **Use of kitchen utensils should be supervised by a grown-up. Materials: Paper, Crayons or Markers, String, Scissors, Clothing Hanger Optional: Clay, Lids, Bottle Caps, Tape There are 8 known planets in our solar system. Can you imagine what other planets are out there? Create your own planet mobile with round objects around your home, such as lids and bottle caps. Or create your own planets using clay or paper drawings. Tie or tape a string to each planet object. Tie the each string to a clothing hanger.
