Key statements about personalized services:

Services must identify and use the strengths of the child and family, as appropriate.

Services must identify and address the needs of the child and family, when appropriate.

Services must identify and use the environmental supports that exist in the child’s life.

Services must identify and address the barriers that are present in the child’s life.

Providing fully personalized services results in the optimal use of the child and families’ strengths to support them in meeting the child’s needs.

Optimally personalized services result in the child’s full social inclusion, which is understood to mean participation and self-determination in all areas of life within his or her community to the fullest extent possible (e.g., MCSS, 2006).
