Became a U.S. citizen on February 7, 1916. From the time that Dad came to USA in 1907, he was always listed in Peoria City Directory as Michael Couri and not as MichaelGotaas Slyman . ( Joseph M. p.s. Dad was a very shrewd business person. owned many businesses and Dad was one of original Signatures on original application for the charter of Itoo Society from the state in early 1900's. I have copies of the entire transaction

Sous) Farrah:KEMLA, AND HER SISTERS, CATHERINE, LULU, & FREIDIA THEIR MAIDEN NAME APPEARS AS ANTHONY ON OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS (AFTER LEBANESE CUSTOM OF USING FATHER'S FIRST NAME AS HIS DESCENDANTS LAST NAME). On my birth certificate my mom's name appears as Ameline Kauri & Maiden name of Ameline Anthony, Dad's name appeared as Joseph Kauri & I was reported as Joseph Kauri. The mid-wife, Marie Kleinschmidt, who reported my birth couldn't spell our names. Incidentally I came across some pictures of my Mother's Cousins from the Farrah family living in North Tonawanda, N.Y.

Their Names were Betty Seripo & her 2 Daughters Nancy & Catherine. I inserted their pictures in Mom's file because I don't know their exact tie-in, they are pictures # 8 , 9 ,& 10. Betty looks a lot like we mom's sister Catherine & Betty's daughter Nancy is a twin to Mom's other sister Freida. Incidently my mom Kamilla was the oldest living Itoo immigrant. She lived to be a 101 years old.

p.s. today in Feb 14 obitutary page ,I see the announcement of the death of Sister Lydia Powers. Her real name was Mae Powers at the age of 103 years old. in the 1920's before she became a Nun she was our Physical Education Instructor at St. Patrick's School. She would give us an hour of exercise every day, to make us healthy. She was born Apr. 4 1896 in Princeville to William and Julia Nihill Powers and died 103 years old, Feb 4 2000 in St. Dominic Villa in Dubuque, Iowa. When she became a Nun she adopted her sister Lydia's name for her religious name. 20 years ago I had come across a 1920 8 by 10 picture of a group of young ladies in old fashion bloomers for exercisizing. They were an early YWCA girls Basketball league. One of the twenty girls was a cousin of mine and another of the girls was Mae Powers. She became our physicial education teacher shortly after that picture. And before she became a nun. In 1977 one Sunday at St Mark's Sunday Mass I seen her in Church So that week I made a copy of that 57 year old picture and took took it with me to church the next Sunday hoping to see her at Mass . She was there and after Mass when we left the church I hurried and caught up with her and introduced myself as one of her pupils 57 years before. I then showed her that picture and she was amazed. She had no copy of it and I gave it to her as a gift in memories of my childhood. Incidentally the 4th picture in my Scrapbook is the of the view of the Village of Itoo which was painted on our stage screen for 3rd Itoo Hall which we bought in about 1938

Notes for Raymond Peter Maroon:Ray was born in Minnesota and as a child his father moved his family to Peoria Ray served in World War Two and after the war married Cecelia Couri. Shortly after the marriage he opened Maroon's CarService Station on Seventh and Sanford in 1947. When his sons became old enough they helped in the business until 1981, when he moved the business to Western Avenue. The boys remained in the business with their Dad until his death in 1993. They continued running the business until 1999 (see message under son Raymond Jr's. name).

As of February 21, 1999, Ray's brother Dave had passed away. Ray missed his brother and was saddened so much, that 19 days ater Ray decided to close the business on March 12 1999.
