Case Study Background and Problem Statement
• Client has identified a partly damaged and severely corroded flare tower. It has become aconcern to Client to ensure normal operability of this flare tower without compromisingthe structural integrity of the structure, loss of live, damage to the environment and lossof reputation.
• The study split in two phase as below:
• The flare tower not fit for service and is not recommended for furtherstrengthening or repair.
• For long term, it’s suggested to change the entire flare tower with a new one oras minimum to replace the lower part flare tower with new fabricated section.
• Due to this, Phase 2 is activated by implement the replacing of lower part offlare tower.

strongly suggests strengthening /

• To report the strength, fatigue and vortex shedding of the Flare Tower:Strength➢ Two structural components are found to be over-utilised. The locations are the lower flare
tower structure and the blower duct side reinforcements.Fatigue➢ The entire flare tower structure is noted to be free from fatigue damages. This in short
means that the flare tower structure is not influenced to wind induced fatigue damages.Vortex Shedding➢ Although the flare tower structure has relatively a larger D/t ratio, it is observed to be fairly
stiffened, due to the presence of platform supports, baffle plate, nozzles, openings andblower duct inlet. In short, the flare tower not influenced by the vortex induced vibration.

Case Study Background &Problem Statement
• After conducting 1.1 Dynamic Load test on LB 2 Davit, crack onweld was found at leg 1 (AFT) and crack on parent metal on Leg 2(FWD) by using MPI technique. EMA only can detect crack depthuntil 2mm due to certain limitation.
• Further grinding off AFT leg, it was found the crack length increasesfrom 80mm to 200mm.
• To present preliminary assessment finding of the cracks foundafter lifeboat davit testing.
• To provide results of manual calculations of foundation stressesand unity checks before and after modification.
• To present load reactions of the davit structure from thesimplified SACS analysis.
• To highlight results for Finite Element (FE) verification analysis.• Conclusion and recommendation for lifeboat 1 davit modification.
Our Proposed Design
• The comparison of stresses shows good correlation between manual calculations and FE results.• The stresses at the hotspot area reduced significantly (up to 90%) after modification.• The design of the proposed modification strengthening can be considered very effective in
solving the crack issue. This is further evidence by no cracks found after the re-test.

• In order to obtain the more accurate reactions at davitfoundation subjected to applied load during lifeboat testing, asimplified SACS analysis has been performed.
• List of loads considered acting on davit structure are as below:✓ Design weights of lifeboat✓ Dynamic Factors considered✓ Davit self weight✓ Lateral reactions from pulley on top of davit✓ Wind was considered to be negligible during
lifeboat testing
• Manual calculations have been performed to obtain estimationof the stresses and unity checks at weld and steel at davit leg-foundation interface (see Figure 2c below).
• A FE analysis has been performed to verify the reactionsand results obtained earlier. Details of the foundation as-built and strengthening have been carefully considered inthe FE model. Load reactions considered were from thesimplified SACS analysis

• D21JT-A infill drilling was performed in 2017 under SIPROD campaign• The infill wells topside facility was designed based on individual well maximum flowrate
of 1500 BPD oil plus minimum watercut• However, during well completion and unloading, it came to surprise that one of the infill
well is capable of producing maximum 3000 BPD oil instead• To cope with the increased oil production rate, ROC requested MIE to assess the
feasibility of using the existing Test Separator by allocating the water leg for oil collection

Advantages of the Proposed Design
• No changes to existing dimension of the vessel and its inlet/outlet nozzles is required• However, following modification is anticipated:
• Water weir and the back weir of the oil bucket are to be removed• Water related level instruments isolation valve is to be closed• Level setpoints adjustment are required• Changes of setpoints to be reflected in PMCS
