Teaching to the State Standards LifeSouth’s vision of the Five Points of Life is to bring awareness of the opportunities available to save another’s life in order to create a Donation Generation. By focusing on the “life sciences” curriculum, the Five Points of Life I am the Donation Generation program is able to teach students about the function of blood in our bodies, how it is replenished, the function and tasks of organs and organ systems, what happens if these life sources are not able to do their normal operation and resources available to help others in need all in alignment with what is being taught in the classroom regarding our bodies and how they work. The benefits of this program in your classroom are the hands-on activities used to teach the kids about blood and the organs in the body. These activities supplement what is already being taught in the classroom and aid in the child’s knowledge and retention of this material. Please take the time to review the standards addressed for your state and contact Brite Whitaker at [email protected] with any questions regarding the curriculum.

Alabama Middle School State Standards The Life Sciences FPOL I am the Donation Generation Education Program focuses on the core Life Science curriculum of the Alabama State Standards. The Life Science curriculum is addressed in the 7th grade classroom and therefore serves as an introduction to the body systems in 6th grade, complements the curriculum in 7th and serves as a review in the 8th grade classroom. The Middle School Life Science Standards addressed in the FPOL I am the Donation Generation Program are: 2015 Alabama Course of Study: Science

Florida Middle School State Standards The FPOL I am the Donation Generation Education Program focuses on the Big Idea 14 of the Organization and Development of Living Organisms in the Life Science core curriculum. The Life Science curriculum is addressed in the 6th grade classroom and therefore supplements the material being taught in 6th grade classrooms. This program can be utilized in 7th and 8th grade as a review of the body systems and processes. Seventh Grade Georgia Life Science Standards: Habits of Mind S7CS1. Students will explore of the importance of curiosity, honesty, openness, and
skepticism in science and will exhibit these traits in their own efforts to understand how the world works.
a. Understand the importance of—and keep—honest, clear, and accurate records in science.
b. Understand that hypotheses can be valuable, even if they turn out not to be completely accurate.
S3CS4. Students will use ideas of system, model, change, and scale in exploring
scientific and technological matters. a. Observe and describe how parts influence one another in things with many
parts. b. Use geometric figures, number sequences, graphs, diagrams, sketches, number
lines, maps, and stories to represent corresponding features of objects, events, and processes in the real world.
c. Identify ways in which the representations do not match their original counterparts.
Life Science S7L2. Students will describe the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and
organ systems. a. Explain that cells take in nutrients in order to grow and divide and to make
needed materials. b. Relate cell structures (cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, chloroplasts,
mitochondria) to basic cell functions. c. Explain that cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into
systems, and systems into organisms. d. Explain that tissues, organs, and organ systems serve the needs cells have for
oxygen, food, and waste removal. e. Explain the purpose of the major organ systems in the human body (i.e.,
digestion, respiration, reproduction, circulation, excretion, movement, control, and coordination, and for protection from disease).
