The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines for world markets (Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa'' ) is a

Malay film history published by KRU Studios to the market internationally with the aim of

introducing the history and culture of the Malay world. Epic film is clearly adapted from the prose,

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa which narrated the history of the earliest state Kedah.

A film directed by Yusry Abdul Halim (from the KRU) is now showing in Malaysian cinemas

starting from March 10, 2011 (after the royal presentation before the February 25 ), by Stephen

Rahman Hughes as the character Merong Mahawangsa, accompanied by a large cast of local and

foreign, especially Dato 'Haji Rahim Razali, Ummi Nazeera, Khir Rahman, Jehan Miskin , UmieAida and Maya Karin.

In the year 120, Roman Empire at that time under the reign of Hadrian, while in China, Han

dynasty are a powerful empire and has expanded its rule to the Central Asian countries. As the

Roman fleet did their repairs and traded in Goa, they asked Merong Mahawangsa to escort a Roman

prince to Southeast Asia, to wed a beautiful Chinese princess from the Han Dynasty, Princess Meng

Li Hua. The Chinese princess and the Roman prince are supposed to meet halfway and be married

on neutral grounds. However, pirate of the Garuda clan has a different design. They decide to

kidnap Princess of China and make it as a hostage. At the end of irrigation Strait of Malacca,

Merong Mahawangsa and the fleet was attacked by Garuda. Thus, it is the duty of MerongMahawangsa to rescue Princess of China and integrate her with the Prince of Rome in a marriage of

two great civilizations of East and West.

The tiger, the largest cat in the world, is one of the most majestic animals onland and is found only in Asia. It is also one of the most powerful mammals,

yet it is on the brink of extinction. In the 1900s, the tiger population was more

than 100,000. Today, the number has dwindled to less than 10,000 worldwide.Nepal has only 200 tigers, India has about 4,000, while Malaysia has less than

500. The reason for the decline in numbers is poaching.

Tigers are hunted not only by human beings but also by other predators such

as elephants, bears and large buffaloes. The only defence tigers have againsttheir enemies are their razor-sharp claws, their strong teeth and their sheer

weight. The weight of a tiger, which can range between 200 and 300

kilogrammes, can kill an 10 average sized human being.Tigers have fascinated human beings for several reasons. For instance,

marks on their forehead resemble the Chinese character wang, which means

king. Furthermore, the markings on a tigers forehead and the stripes all over itsbody are like finger prints. Experts can tell individual tigers apart by observing

the markings and stripes closely. This is because no two tigers have identical

markings. The patterns of their stripes vary immensely, especially from one

sub-species to another. The Sumatran tiger has the most stripes and markingswhile the Siberian tiger has the fewest. The stripes of a tiger always run at right

angles to its body and not along its bodyline. Otherwise, it would be very

conspicuous and find it impossible to camouflage itself.

These carnivorous beasts thrive well in areas of dense vegetation with amplesources of water and large populations of hoofed animals. They instinctively

avoid human beings and only attack people if they are provoked, injured or

unable to hunt for their usual food.Despite their prowess, tigers are unable to protect themselves from their

greatest threat human beings. These magnificent creatures have been hunted

for hundreds of years for sport as proof of ones strength and manliness, and fortheir skin. They have also been trapped and poisoned by farmers to protect their

livestock. As a result, the Caspian, Javan and Bali tigers have become extinct.

In many Asian countries, tigers are killed for their precious claws. It is believed

that wearing a talisman made of a 30 tigers claw can protect its wearer. It is

almost impossible to ascertain whether a tigers claw has any supernaturalpowers, but what is certain is that many a tiger will lose its life so that someone

can profit from it.Other than that, tigers have been hunted for their body organs, which are

believed to be a cure for many ailments. This superstition may have resulted

from the connection 35 made with their masculinity and strength. This has

resulted in massive poaching of tigers for their whiskers, eyes, teeth, penises,liver and fat.

Hunting of tiger prey has also caused the number of tigers to dwindle. Tigers

usually feed on hoofed animals such as deer, wild boar and buffaloes. Thehunting of these animals by human beings has caused tigers to starve to death.

Serious action has to be taken to ensure the survival of this majestic creature.

Although the tiger has been labelled an endangered species and the sale oftigerrelated products has been banned in many countries, these measures havebackfired, with illegal poaching of tigers for their fur, bones and other organs

becoming rampant. Some countries, such as India, have allocated millions of

dollars to set up tiger reserves to protect these animals but even these are notsafe. Poachers completely wiped out wild tigers in the Sariska Tiger Reserve in

India. To ensure the survival of the tiger, conservation efforts need to be

improved to reduce threats to tigers. Efforts must also be made to improve tiger

habitats and to increase tiger prey populations so that they will not starve todeath in the wild. There must be more stringent controls on the demand for tiger

parts. When there is no demand, there will be no supply. To drive the message

home, poachers should be punished severely. Otherwise, they will not stop theirillegal activities.

Deforestation is the cutting or burning down of all the trees in a forest andthe conversion of forested areas to non- forest land for use such as arable land

or pasture, or for urban use. Deforestation results from removal of trees without

sufficient reforestation, and results in decline in habitat and biodiversity, inwood for fuel and industrial use, and in the quality of life. In many countries,

massive deforestation is ongoing and is shaping climate and geography.

Deforestation is a substantial contributor to global warming, and although

70 percent of the oxygen we breathe comes from photosynthesis of marinegreen algae and cyanobacteria, the mass destruction of the worlds rain forests

is not beneficial to our environment. In addition, the incineration and burning of

forests plants in order to clear land, releases tonnes of carbon dioxide whichincrease the impact of global warming.

Deforestation reduces the content of water in the soil, reduces

groundwater as well as atmospheric moisture. Deforestation reduces soilcohesion, so that erosion, flooding and landslides often result. More flash

floods and localised floods occur because of deforestation. This would not

happen if there is forest cover.

Forests support considerable biodiversity, providing valuable habitat forwildlife. Moreover, forests foster medicinal conservation and forest biotopes

are a major, irreplaceable source of new drugs (like TAXOL).

Deforestation also contributes to decreased evapotranspiration, which

lessens atmospheric moisture which in some cases affects precipitation levels.Water is thus lost in run-off and returns directly to the oceans. According to one

preliminary study, in deforested north and northwest China, the average annual

precipitation decreased by one third between the 1950s and 1980s.Long-term gains can be obtained by managing forest lands sustainable to

maintain both forest cover and provide a biodegradable renewable resource.

Forests are also important stores of organic carbon, and forests can extractcarbon dioxide and pollutants from the air, thus contributing to biosphere

stability. Deforestation (mainly in tropical areas) accounts for up to one third of

total anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Forests are also valued for their

aesthetic beauty and as a cultural resource and tourist attraction.

The effects of human-related deforestation can be mitigated throughenvironmentally sustainable practices that reduce permanent destruction of

forests or even act to preserve and rehabilitate disrupted forestland. Thesemethods help the cause and provide a sustainable growth of forests and allow

lumber to become a renewable resource.
