From Your Pastor Prayers for SBS
Besides this, knowing the time, it is already the hour for you to wake up from sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
Romans 13:11
First, and foremost, I’m blessed to be called a “Christian.” I know we
won’t have denominational divides when we get to heaven. But this side of
heaven, I am glad to be apart of the “Southern Baptist Convention.” In re-
cent years, we have been blessed to see our convention of like-minded
churches, recognize the need for revival, unity, and spiritual awakening.
Yes, in the 70’s and 80’s there were years of conflict (much of it nec-
essary to maintain Biblical authority and our conservative beliefs). During
those years, many went to the convention to participate in the debates.
Many were turned off by the constant bickering within the convention.
Thankfully, our commitment to the Word of God was defended.
In recent years, there has been a change in attitude. We realize that
our battle is not against one another. We must come together for the sake
of the kingdom. Our current SBC President Ronnie Floyd has requested
that all SBC churches pray and fast for the upcoming SBC convention
which will be in Columbus, OH, June 16-17.
What should we pray for?
1) Unity. “We will come together, stay together, and leave together as
followers of our Lord in our Southern Baptist family.”
2) Love. “As people who love the Bible so much, we also need to love
one another. We need to fall in love with Jesus again,. When we do, we
will love one another.”
3) Reasons to celebrate. “God is doing some wonderful things through
our churches in the work we do together as Southern Baptists. We
need to celebrate together what the Lord is doing. Even in this critical
time in our nation, more than ever, we need the joy of the Lord to be
our strength. While sin is abounding in our nation, grace abounds even
more. Yes, we need to celebrate together the great grace of our Lord.”
Please pray that the Lord will wake up our pastors and leaders and re-
vive the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention. God might want to
use our churches and convention to start the next Great Awakening in the
United States as we know a spiritual awakening is our greatest need.
Please join me in praying for the SBC convention this year.

MAKING DISCIPLES…
Question 14: How did God create man?
Answer: God created man male and female, after His own image, in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness, with dominion over the creatures.
Scripture: Genesis 1:27-28; Colossians 3:10; Ephesians 4:24.
Comment: In saying that we were created after his image “in knowledge, righteous-ness, and holiness” we do not mean that we know all God knows, nor that we are a fountain of righteousness and holiness the way He is. We mean that we are capable of sharing His knowledge and righteousness and holiness in a relationship of trust and love unlike any other creature under the angels.
