In the midst of the recent global eco-nomic struggles, dining out became aluxury many people decided they couldno longer afford. Though families tradi-tionally dine out less than anyone, inlight of fewer funds, the trend to stay in

for meals and save money extended be-yond families to couples and singles aswell.

Though the economy is graduallybouncing back, the impact of the recentrecession is still fresh on the minds ofmany. While its important to watchspending, that doesnt mean dining outmust continue to be an unaffordableluxury. In fact, there are many ways toenjoy dining out and still save money.

    * Look forward to Restaurant Week. Many larger cities offer some type ofRestaurant Week, a week during whichrestaurants across a given metropolitanarea provide lower prices to customersas incentive to dine out and try new cui-sine. Many restaurants offer prix fixedeals, typically including three coursesranging anywhere from $25-40 perplate. This allows consumers to enjoy af-fordable meals at restaurants that mightotherwise be out of the budget.

    * Peruse restaurants online. Manyrestaurants allow people surfing the Web

to join mailing lists via their Web sites.Such mailing lists provide e-mail up-dates on menu changes and specialevents at the restaurant, making it eas-ier to schedule nights out on the townin advance. Some restaurants even offer

exclusive discounts to those on theirmailing lists, making it more affordableto spend a night dining out.

    * Look for coupons. Mailboxes areoften filled with junk mail, but nearlyeveryone has received that envelope fullof coupons at least once. While its easyto simply discard junk mail immedi-ately, that envelope might just be thekey to an affordable night out on thetown. Many restaurants send offercoupons via such envelopes as well asthe local newspaper, and these couponsoften provide great deals.

Another place to look for restaurantcoupons is a local entertainment book.

While these books often must be pur-chased, those who truly put the book touse will save much more in the long runat restaurants as well as several localbusinesses.

    * Take advantage of promotions. Many people scoff at restaurant promo-tions that might offer too little or seemtoo limited. However, for couples who

havent had a night out on the town in awhile, those promotions might be justwhats needed. Part of the fun of diningout is getting out of the house, so whilethat limited menu special might not beexactly what a diner is looking for, it is

a more affordable way to hit the townand let someone else do the cooking.

While dining out might be a costlyendeavor for families, couples or evensingles, savvy diners can find deals ifthey look in the right places.

On July 6th Los Compadres will be

celebrating 20 years of offering theircustomers authentic Mexican food in a

relaxed and friendly south-of-the-border atmosphere. From 6:00 pm until

9:00 pm that evening they will have a

live Mariachi band in the restaurant to

entertain their guests while dining. They

will also be offering different specialsthroughout the day to celebrate this

milestone in their business. It is sure to

be a true Mexican fiesta that shouldnt

    be missed!

Owner, Jose Gutierrez, had the furni-

ture and the dcor including the tile, the

sinks, wrought iron and the limestonefountain all brought in from Mexico.

This extra attention to detail has set Los

Compadres apart and gives the atmos-

phere an authenticity from the instant

you set foot inside the door.

    However, atmosphere alone never

kept anyone from going hungry. Thefood is another place where the extra at-

tention to detail is certainly paying off

for Jose and Los Compadres. The salsa

is made fresh daily and the authenticMexican recipes have been prepared for

more than 15 years by the same chef.

The Margaritas are made only with 100%

Blue Aqua Tequila in their full service

    bar.

The wait staff is friendly and courte-

ous with the needs of the customer as

their top priority. The food arrives

quickly, hot, and ready to enjoy. The

restaurant has open dining rooms to ac-commodate large groups, parties,

church groups and families. On Sunday

families enjoy an incredible buffet with

a wide variety of selections that include

but are not limited to: Steak and

    Chicken Fajitas, Beef and Chicken

Alambres, Build your own Crispy Tacos,

    Taco Salad, Potato Salad, Macaroni,

    Chicken Wings, Chicken Nuggets, Fruit,

    Desserts (including Flameabos their

own secret recipe with bananas, straw-berries, ice cream, fried flour tortillas,

sugar and cinnamon). All of this and

more is available for the affordable price

of $8.99 for adults and $4.99 for chil-

    dren 12 years and under.

Los Compadres is open daily from

11:00 am until 10:30 pm. Be watching

for their Mt. Juliet location on Lebanon

Rd., opening sometime in the middle of

August and dont forget the anniversary

celebration on July 6th. For more infor-mation, please call 615-443-4697.

Normally, the dog house is not where you wouldwant to be, until now. Coris Dog House is exactlywhere you want to be if you want the best hot dogs, best toppings, best buns and the best service avail-

able. As a matter of fact their slogan is, Sometimesits good to be in the doghouse.

In September 2009 Sean Sullivan, AKA Sully, wanted to open a place that took him back to oneof his happiest childhood memories, eating hotdogs at the lunch counter in Woolworths with hismom. He always had two, served on a New Englandstyle bun. While it is quite possible that the lunchcounter at Woolworths never offered their patrons38 different hot dog combinations to choose fromalong with a selection of 16 other specialty sand-wiches, but that is exactly what Sully decided to do

at his own gourmet hot dog restaurant, Coris DogHouse.

Hoping to instill some of those same fond child-hood memories in his own child, Sully named hisrestaurant after his then nine year old daughterCori, when he opened the dog house. While Sullyruns the place most of the time, she does pop infrom time to time to check on things and act asCEO. According to him she has fired him aboutfour times but hires him back two minutes laterwhen she realizes she has to do the work!

All of the ingredients at Coris Dog House are

fresh. The fries and onion rings are all hand cut.

Their New England style bun has often been de-scribed as a type of Texas Toast. These buns arebaked fresh by a local bakery, covered with butter, grilled to perfection before becoming the vehiclefor the famous Coris Hot Dogs. The only thing in

their freezer is the hot dogs according to Sully. We suggest 38 different topping combinations

but have 4 million possibilities, said SullyIf you visit Coris Dog House you might have to

stand in line for one for these gourmet dogs butthey are fast and friendly and will have you comingback for more. Coris Dog House is located at Prov-idence Shopping Center. Coris is open 11 am 8pm Monday through Thursday, 11 am 9 pm Fri-day and Saturday and 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday. For more information please call 615-758-6960 orvisit www.corisdoghouse.com.
