Horizons for Homeless Children This season we will be raising money to support Horizons for Homeless Children. So far this season, we have raised almost $200! Between superlatives and fruit sales we're on our way to another successful season of fundraising for the kids. Keep your votes and your dollars coming, the kids need your help more than you need another drink! If every player donates just $5 during the season, we can raise about $1300 ! Horizons for Homeless Children is rated a 4 star charity (highest rating) by Charity Navigator! For more information, check out the following from the Horizons for Homeless Children website: What do we do at Horizons for Homeless Children? We help children learn how to play, to share, to read, and to enjoy exploring their worlds. We help parents learn how to be nurturing and involved in the growth and development of their children, and help them learn and grow through job training, GED and college courses. We help to stabilize families so that they can weather any crisis, and thus help to break the cycle of homelessness that too often occurs. Since 1994, several thousand children have been served by the Community Children's Centers. We have recruited and trained more than 11,500 volunteer Playspace Activity Leaders since 1990, giving thousands of children living in family shelters across Massachusetts the opportunity to play, learn and to just be kids. We have training sessions for service providers in Massachusetts and participate in local and national conferences. We work with public officials in state and federal government to increase the resources available to young homeless children and to change the conditions that lead to family homelessness.

Kick In a Box Week 1: Kick in a Box 3, Kickhopopppopptiamus 1 We won. We had fun. Boom roasted. Week 2: Kick in a Box 4, Awkward Playground Bullies 3 The only thing we can remember from this week was that Greg "Big Boot" Smith tried to catch a ball with his face. Matt "My brother's cooler" McMahon led off the game with a homer. Dark Blue prevailed over Periwinkle. Oh and 6 of our team members had a birthday within 6 days (either direction) from game day! Eric Duffy (31), Greg Smith(1), Ali Daftarian(2), Melissa England (4), Droo Murray (4), and Jason Henry (10). Week 3: Kick in a Box 4, Your Balls My Foot 2 After our sweet come from behind solid team effort, great defense, timely kicking, agressive baserunning, we were able to enjoy a great 4-2 victory. A sweet double play started by Eric "I Finally Came" Duffy and finished by Krysle "Drywalling" Petrie, led the defensive effort. Timely kicks led to big runs by Jason "two first names" Henry and Erin "Pedifiley" Riley. Half the team didn't show up to the bar. Very ashamed, but it was game 5 of the NBA finals baby. Week 4: Kick in A Box 3, What up Pitch 0 Playing small ball, moving people around the bases WITHOUT BUNTING, we were able to get a run in the 3rd. We added two more in the 4th, off of a big kick by Greg "Big Boot" Smith, followed by a home run by Matt "My Brother's Cooler". Big defensive plays by Sarah "Still have a bruise" Waller, Mike "still drunk from my birthday" O'Connell, and Eric "I showed up late" Tobin.

Game Recaps

Your Balls, My Foot Week 3: Your Balls, My Foot 2, Kick in a Box 5 The Ballers were soundly defeated by the hot rapid-fire bunt action of Kick in a Box in another action packed all-or-nothing clash. Though no match for Kick in a Box's constant munts and zima-fueled tenacity, the Ballers look forward to a rematch with their friendly pitching giant back in the mix, and the rest of their squad back from vacation/injuries. MVP goes to Rachel for her first on-base ever, and her glorious advancement to second. Bar MVP goes to Jake, Ariel and Courtney for once again holding down the bar in their rookie season. Week 4: Your Balls, My Foot 7, Boot n Rally 2 In a heated rematch from last year, the Dr. Pepper fueled Ballers were able to take down a significantly underrepresented Boot and Rally squad, thanks partially to Father's Day. Sweat stains were a badge of honor worn by many on this overly humid day, the best of which was worn by Jake "the Manimal" Brinton for his multiple deep boots. At the bar, much Slap a B was played, with B&R self-professed team drunk Hunter Smith mixing things up with the Ballers. After dirty Jenga, things swiftly took a turn for the sketchy, but for the full story, you will have to ask B&R team members Hunter and Matt what happened after 7pm. Enough pictures were taken such that this photographer/writer may be able to count on a number of free beers in the future.

Kick Free Die Hard Week 3: Kick Free Die Hard 7, What Up Pitch 0 Kick Free or Die Hard wins for most improved team. After losing game one, and a tie in game two, they were finally able to take away a win in game three. Not only was Kick Free able to score but they scored multiple runs and people got up more than once! MVP goes to Geoff "Butters" Fisher for his head in the game catch from left bench. Bar MVP is also awarded to Butters for his ability to chug any size cup or pitcher when his name is chanted. Kick Free would also like to thank our bartender Alex and waitress for supporting them while pursuing the drinking of pitchers of beer through straws upon immediate arrival. Week 4: Kick Free Die Hard 6, Superfreaks 0 Kick Free and Die Hard made it two straight shutouts, defeating Superfreaks 6-0 to improve to 2-1-1 on the season. Incredibly, we've only given up 2 runs all year. Everyone played a role in this win as Butters had a 2-run single before chugging pitcher after pitcher at Tommy's to destroy the competition on and off the field. Katie made a nice catch and had a hit while Trevor, Addy and Jon Au also were awesome in the field. Drew and Trevor had RBI hits while Sara (with no shoes) and Alex led the way flying around the bases. Brad pitched his second straight shutout teaming with Alex who was behind the plate. It's been a great start to the year for KFDH on the field and at the bar where we continue to lead the way in bar domination and pitchers.
