Dear Mike,

Thanks so much for your grand hospitality while in Washington last week to tape a segment for Business Breaks When I walked in people were poised to help me out, and I really appreciated that I was able to do a phone and Internet link for a national phone conference with about a dozen colleagues !?om around the country We were discussing issues that relate to the management of institutionally related foundations in preparation for a national conference in Apnl

I also appreciate the promptness with which you were able to work me into your schedule Increasingly we are finding people attracted to gift annuities because of their relatively high payout and their simplicity. Thanks for letting us share that concept with your viewers

I have had three people stop by or call to say they saw the spot this morning Let's hope someone wants information

Best wishes for a grand holiday season

Sincerely,

J Lanier

MARINE CORPSRESERVE

February 18,2003

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your donation to the 2002 Cherry Point Reserve Support Unit Toys For Tots Campaign.

With your support, 42,701 toys were collected and distributed to the children of Beaufort, Bertie, Carteret, Craven, Edgecombe, Halifax, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pitt, Tyrell and Washington counties. The Marines, community volunteers and local business’ collective efforts resulted in 20,129 children receiving toys.

Your contribution to ensure a brighter Christmas for deserving children and your support of the Marine Corps community outreach is commendable. You should be proud to know that your donation had a positive impact on the lives of others.

Dear Mike,

Thank you very much for your great promotional support of the 1 lth Annual Med-Law Classic As you h o w , the Med-Law Classic is the signature event that identifies the fundraising efforts of the Pitt County Health Education Foundation (PCHEF). This year, we were able to meet ow goal of $100,000. This summer these funds will be awarded as grants to projects here in Pitt County that address issues of health and health education.

The basketball challenge between the physicians and the lawyers has grown over the past 11 years into one of the most successful fundraising events in Pitt County. We thank you for continuing to support us in so many ways: production and airing of the PSA (Robert Banner outdid himself this year and created a very memorable PSA!), morning shoot- outs with Jim Howard, Business Break, appearance on the 5:00 p.m. news, Billy Weaver and Amanda Ross joining us at the game for the shoot-out, the Sumo Wrestler suits. . The list goes on and on! We value our partnership with WITN and look forward to a great on- going relationshipas we continue to address Pitt County's many community health needs. Dear Mike:

On behalf o f the Beaufort Business Association, I would like to thank you and your team for all you did to help us promote the 15th Annual Beaufort Music Festival. Your coverage was outstanding and having WITN-7 on board really made a difference.

I very much enjoyed my two inten, iews with Linda Shore. She makes it all so easy and is so comfortable to talk with that there is never a thought of being nervous. I certainly appreciated the opportunity t o talk about our festival on bvo different occasions and I know her interviews helped us get the word out. Thanks t u your coverage, the town was packed for the POCO concert on Saturday. Unfortunately, the downpour on Friday night kept the crowd down and the Driffers didn’t have such a big turnout (but what a show they put on in the NC Maritime Museum .I hope you had a chance to see it!!)

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to MC the activities on Saturday. You did a great job and we really appreciate all the promoting you did for our sponsors. Thank Patrick and Poug for their help also.

I t was great having yoc all here and we all very much appreclate having WTN-7 as a Sponsor for the 2003 Beaufort Music Festival.

NC CAN Program Launched to Recover Abducted Children

SANFORD--Three hours i s enough time to enjoy your favorite sporting event or catch a movie. It is also enough time to kidnap and murder a small child.

According to national research from the state of Washington, seventy-five percent of the children who were abducted and killed at the hands of strangers were dead within three hours of being kidnapped.

In an effort to capitalize on this small window of opportunity, . dio, law enforcement agencies in a four county area, and the N.C. Center for Missing Persons today announced the creation of the NC Child Alert Notification System.

The North Carolina Child Alert Notification (NC CAN) System is the brainchild of the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons, and was developed in conjunction with Chatham, Moore, Harnett and Lee county law enforcement agencies and radio station WWCP-AM /WFJA-FM in Sanford.

"Our goal was to develop a simple yet effective system for law enforcement to immediately broadcast information to the public about an abducted child" said Billy Ray Cameron, deputy secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety (CC&PS). The N.C. Center for Missing Persons is a division within CC&PS.

Page 8: Mid-Atlantic Reglonal Blood Senrices 140 F~x June · Mid-Atlantic Reglonal Blood Senrices Eastern North Carolina Center 3818 Stantonsburg Road Greenville, North Carolina 27834 (252)

A similar program in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area has already been credited with the safe return of an abducted four year old girl.

The NC CAN system is similar to the emergency broadcast system, used to alert people during adverse weather. It works when local police or sheriff departments fax information to the radio station concerning an abducted child. The radio station then interrupts their program with an alert tone developed by an engineer at the Sanford radio station, and broadcasts specific information about the child and possible abductor.

"The cooperation of local law enforcement agencies has been tremendous," said John Goad, director of the N.C. Center for Missing Persons. "Hopefully, we will be able to take this program statewide."

Agencies participating in the four county pilot program include: Chatham County Sheriffs Office; Harnett County Sheriffs Office; Lee County Sheriffs Office; Moore County Sheriffs Office; Angier PD; Lillington PD; Dunn PD; Broadway PD; Sanford PD; Pittsboro PD; Siler City PD; Erwin PD; Aberdeen PD; Carthage PD; Coats PD; Foxfire Village PD; Pine Bluff PD; Pinhurst PD; Robbins PD; Southern Pines PD; Taylortown PD; Vass PD; and, Wispering Pines PD.

Attention: Richard Feindel

Dear Mr. Feindel:

On behalf of the Community Child Protection Team of Lee County, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your recent fifty dollar savings bond donation given to Barbara Cameron for our Safe School Project. We, like all other parents, have been concerned for the safety of children while in OUT schools

This year we will be sponsoring a project with the theme "Safety in the Schools". The kick off for the project will be during the Lee County Agricultural Fair. We will be asking the students in grades sixth through twelve to create a design suitable for a button that best depicts our theme. We will be using the donations, such as yours, for prizes to the winners of each grade level in each of the schools. We will select one grand prize winner that will be used to make buttons to distribute to the school children.

This project would not have been possible without a partnership with the Lee County Schools and our generous Lee County community leaders. Thank you on behalf of the entire Community Child Protection Team.

Dear Margaret

On behalf of the Sanford Kiwams Club, let us express our sincere thanks for your contribution to the success of our 3rd annual Golf Shoot-out Your interview and promos of the event helped us to get golfers out dunng the week and encouraged them to spend more money trying to get into one of the top 30 positions It may just be part of the station's daily routine to do announcements like this, but it sure helped our tight budget to get ttus kind of advertising

Our club supports many activities in Lee County including scholarships, the Boys and Girls Club, the Amencan Red Cross and projects too numerous to name here Of course, our greatest project in terms of the community is the Kiwanis Park and the Strolling Gardens Without continued help from people like you with our fund-raisers, these programs would not exist

Again, we extend our sincere and heartfelt "thank you"

Sincerely,

Lyn Roberts and Susan Larsen Co-chairpersons, Golf Shoot-out
