MASON LOGOIn the new version of MicroStrategy Web, the Mason logo replaces the MicroStrategy starburst icon. You see the Mason logo on the left side of the navigation bar on every page of the application.

Mason Logo Starburst

In addition to the new image, this icon also behaves differently. In the old version, clicking the starburst icon displayed a menu. Now, clicking the Mason logo returns you to the project home page. To display the menu, click the down arrow on the right side of the Mason logo.

Mason Logo MenuThe new Mason logo menu no longer includes the New Report, Preferences, and Logout options. You can still create a new report from the Create Report option on the project home page or from the Create button on the left panel.

User Name MenuThe user name now displays on the right side of the Navigation bar and can be seen from any page. In the old version of MicroStrategy Web, this location contained the help button. Like the Mason logo, the user name also displays a menu when you click the down arrow on the right side. This new menu contains the Preferences, Help, About MicroStrategy, and Logout options.

New User Name Menu

SEARCHTo the left of the user name, the search button is also on the Navigation bar and can be seen from any page. You no longer see a search feature on the project home page.

Search Button

Clicking the search button opens a window where you can search by object name. The first selector enables you to search in the entire project, the Shared Reports folder, the My Reports folder, or the current folder. The second selector enables you to use different operators – contains, exactly, begins with, or ends with. By default, your search looks in the current folder using the contains operator.

Clicking the Refine link to the right of the search box displays additional searching options. In addition to object name, you can also search by object type, owner, date, or description. You can choose to search for more than one object type at a time by selecting any number of object types on the first selector.

Search Window – Additional Options

LEFT PANELIn addition to the Navigation bar that displays at the top of each MicroStrategy page, there is also a panel on the left side of each folder or subfolder page that provides additional navigation options. In the new version of MicroStrategy Web, a green create button is added. Use this option to create new objects such as reports and folders. Depending on your privileges, you may also be able to create additional objects such as documents, custom groups, prompts, and filters.

FOLDER PAGES

SORTOn any folder or subfolder page, when viewing the items in List View, sorting is now available. You can sort on any of the columns – Name, Owner, Modified, or Description – by clicking the column header. Clicking the header once sorts the column in ascending order. Clicking the header a second time sorts the column in descending order. The arrow on the right of the column header indicates how the column is sorted.

Descending Sort on Name

SEARCH FOR DEPENDENTSYou are now able to search for the dependents of an object. That is, you can search for any objects that use a particular object. For example, when you search a report for its dependents, any document that uses that report as a data set is displayed. To search for dependent objects, right-click an object and select Find Dependents. The Find Dependents dialog box opens, displaying the objects that use the selected object.

OBJECT ICONSWhile not changing functionality in any way, there are new object icons. One place you see the change is when answering prompts. For example, the attribute element icon was formerly a red cube but now is a turquoise diamond.

The filter icon was formerly a Venn diagram but now is a green funnel.

Here are some additional examples of changed object icons.

REPORTSWhen running a report, you also see changes. Just as the object icons are updated without changing any functionality, so too are the report toolbar buttons. Because the new black and white icons display in blue when selected, you should find it easier to see exactly which settings are enabled.
