MicroStrategy Quick Guide: User Preferences ITU Data Mart Support Group, Reporting Support

User Preferences The RS Team has set default settings across the projects. You can customize your MicroStrategy Web

experience by setting custom user preferences.

You may have access to multiple projects in MicroStrategy (Academic and/or Administrative). At the

bottom of each preference screen, you will have the option to save those preferences for the active

project or for all projects.

Access Preferences Login to MicroStrategy Web

Click the icon on the top left of the screen and click “Preferences”

A screen will open with a list of preferences.

General Set your general preferences. If you want help on determining General preferences, please access

MicroStrategy Help via the Help Icon or via this website: http://www2.microstrategy.com/producthelp/9.3.1/WebUser/WebHelp/Lang_1030/General_preferences.htm General Preferences options include:

Default Start Page – Select a page to use as your default start page when you login to

MicroStrategy.

Color Theme – Select a color theme to change from the default.

Language – Select a language and/or time zone to change from the defaults.

Dynamic HTML – Dynamic HTML will be used automatically when supported by your browser.

To disable, select “No” from the drop down menu.

Accessibility Mode – Enable or disable the setting for screen reader compatibility

Drop Down Menus – Enable or disable the setting to require a mouse click to open menus

Font Style – Customize the font and font size to use in MicroStrategy

Output Formats – Customize output settings

o Use PDF for printing reports – select this option to enable MicroStrategy to print to a

PDF before sending to your printer

o Re-use new window for each export, print, PDF action – select this option to enable

MicroStrategy to re-use a browser for each export/print/PDF on a single report (this will

prevent multiple windows from opening when you export/print/PDF)

o Full Screen Mode Behavior for Reports/Documents

Read from Report/Document – select this option to use the report/document

settings to determine if the report/document will use full screen mode

Open every Report/Document in Full Screen mode – select this option to force

every report/document to run in full screen mode

Don’t open any Report/Document in Full Screen mode – select this option to

restrict any report/document from running in full screen mode

Cart-Style Selections – The default setting for cart-style prompts is to remove a selected answer

from the list of available answers when answering a cart-style prompt. Enable this option to

keep selected answers in the list of available answers when answering a cart-style prompt.

Qualification – Customize qualification (filter) settings

o Default Operators for Metric Qualification – select an operator to use as the default

operator when creating a metric qualification

o Default Operators for Attribute Qualification – select an operator to use as the default

operator when creating an attribute qualification

o Preserve white space in prompts answers and filter expressions – select this option to

enable MicroStrategy to preserve white space in prompts and filters

Hierarchy Browsing – select this option to automatically expand attributes within a hierarchy

when there is only one browsing option

Save and Copy Options – Customize Save and Copy options

o Ask before saving changes – select this option to be prompted with each save

o Display advanced options – select this option to view advanced options with each save

o Save prompted report as:

Prompted – the report will prompt the user when run

Static – the report will save the current prompt answers and use those answers

when run

o Set the current prompt answers to be the default prompt answers – select this option to

save the current prompt answers as the default prompt answers when the report is run

o Copy names from all other languages – select this option to maintain the translation

options with the report

Derived Elements – select this option to be warned when you change a derived element that the

changes will be local to the report or document. For more information on Derived Elements,

see the Quick Guide – Derived Elements in the Creating Reports Quick Guide folder.

Grid style – Select whether to use the grid format stored in the report definition or use your

selected grid format

Default grid style – Select the default grid style to use when creating new reports. The default

green and gold Mason style is ‘GMU’

Maximum rows/columns in grid – Enter the max rows/columns to display on a grid report

Show attribute form names – Select whether to show or hide attribute form names on the grid

or to use the option set in the report. For more information on attributes see Quick Guide –

Attribute Forms in the Manipulating Reports folder.

Show pivot buttons – Select this option to show pivot buttons on the grid

Show sort buttons – Select this option to show sort buttons on the grid

Show unused attributes in page-by panel – Select this option to show unused attributes in the

page by panel

Display empty grid axes in view mode – Select this option to show placeholders for empty grid

axes in view mode

Enable sorting by attribute forms that are not displayed on the grid – Select this option to allow

sorting by attributes forms that are not shown on the grid

Automatic page-by – Select this option to automatically show page-by

Show page-by axis by default – Select this option to show the page-by axis by default

Use images for depicting expand and contract in outline mode – Select this option to use images

when using outline mode

Graph size – Select to use either the settings stored in a report definition or to use custom

settings

Show graph reports by default in “Grid and Graph” view mode – Select this option to open graph

reports by default in grid-graph mode

Export – Select the default export option to export the entire report or only the portion

displayed

Export grids to – Select the default grid export option

Export graphs to – Select the default graph export option

Export HTML documents to – Select the default HTML export option

Select the options to export by default the Report Title, Page By Information, and filter details

Header and Footer – Set custom settings for the header and footer when exporting

Remove extra column – Select “Yes” to always remove the extra column (“Metrics” header),

“No” to never remove the extra column, or “Automatic” to use the report settings for removing

the extra column

Common Drill Preferences

a. Metric Values

i. Select to display or hide default drilling path as a link

ii. Select to display or hide context sensitive menu

b. Keep parent while drilling – Select whether to use the settings from the report, keep or

leave out the parent object while drilling

c. Keep thresholds while drilling – Select whether to use the settings from the report, keep

or leave out thresholds while drilling

d. Open drill results in a new window – Select whether to open drill results in a new

window or in the same window

Report Services Drill Preferences – Drill within behavior

a. Automatic – use the preferences set by the document/dashboard

b. Based on menu location – will drill within the document/dashboard if drill path

available, otherwise will open a new window

a. Cancel this session’s pending requests – Select whether to allow pending requests to

remain in the queue or cancel

b. Remove the finished interactive jobs from the History List – Select whether to clear or

leave intact your history list
