Dear MicroStrategy Customer,

MicroStrategy 10™ is used by thousands of leading organizations every day, and our platform has

become the foundation for many of the world’s most sophisticated analytics deployments. For the

past two years, we have continued to modernize our platform to offer a brand-new experience to

our customers, helping them expand adoption and deliver business value even faster.

We launched our most recent platform release (MicroStrategy 10.4™) in June 2016. Since then,

we have released multiple feature releases on a quarterly cadence and delivered hundreds

of new capabilities to our customers. Every feature release, from 10.5 to 10.11, enriched the

customer experience and expanded the breadth of capabilities available to MicroStrategy users

of all kinds, from business users, to analysts, data scientists, and developers. The MicroStrategy

Technology team has been working hard to bring these feature releases to you, while also

working on ‘the next big thing.’

Many of you already use the most recent feature release (MicroStrategy 10.11™) to take

advantage of the latest innovations on our platform. And some of you have standardized on

the most recent platform release (10.4), applying the quarterly hotfixes for increased stability,

performance, and security.

Today, I’ve got some important news to share regarding ‘the next big thing’ – the upcoming

release of the MicroStrategy Intelligent Enterprise™ Platform. In this edition of the CTO newsletter,

I’ve included some exciting updates on our next platform release, the next feature release, a

commitment to a new accelerated platform release schedule, and a few other items. You can

Next Platform Release —MicroStrategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform (v11.1) Coming December 2018!

I’m excited to announce that the next platform release, MicroStrategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform 11.1™, will be

generally available in Q4 2018 with support coverage through 2021!

You’ll hear much more about the new platform from my friends in Marketing, but I wanted to provide you with

this exciting news to help with planning and scheduling your upgrades.

This platform release offers everything added to the product since the launch of MicroStrategy 10.4. It includes

all the new features and security, stability and performance enhancements introduced with every feature release

and hotfix since 10.4.

If your users are still using 10.4, then they’ll be blown away by the new experience and exciting capabilities in the

MicroStrategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform (v11). I have included a summary of some of the top features among

the hundreds of new capabilities included in this release at the bottom of this newsletter. You can also explore the

top features introduced with each release with this interactive Dossier of New Features.

Annual Release Cadence for Future Platform Releases

More good news. Organizations that use MicroStrategy have been asking us for a more frequent and predictable

platform release schedule, so they can adopt the latest innovations more regularly and have the ability to do

long-term upgrade planning and budgeting. As a result, we are happy to announce that, following the upcoming

platform release in Q4 2018, we will adopt an annual cadence for future platform releases. This means that

the next platform release after version 11.1 is planned to be released in Q4 2019.

Next Feature Release—MicroStrategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform (v11.0) Coming September 2018!

That’s right! Prior to the platform release in December (v11.1), we will be releasing another collection of new

capabilities via a feature release.

The upcoming feature release in September (v11.0) introduces the MicroStrategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform.

Supported through March 2019, this version features new capabilities specifically aimed at helping make

upgrades between versions as seamless as possible, including improved system monitoring, integrity testing, and

upgrade validation.

MicroStrategy Intelligent Enterprise Platform (v11)

Over the past three years, we’ve focused our efforts on helping organizations transform into an Intelligent

Enterprise. In order to become an Intelligent Enterprise, organizations must have access to the right technique

and the right technology—and to help our customers with that transformation, we launched the Map of the

Intelligent Enterprise. My colleagues in Consulting have continued to develop and refine the programs that help

shape an Intelligent Enterprise, and our Education team has produced training and certifications for the various

roles that make up an Intelligent Enterprise.

In Technology, with every feature release, we’ve responded to customer needs by adding more functionality

to enable business users, analysts, data scientists, and developers to quickly build impactful applications. These

applications disseminate intelligence and insights to a broad spectrum of users, on various tools, through various

devices, across various organizational functions – all on a single cohesive platform.

Each feature release has added hundreds of new features, enhancements, and fixes, some of which are

highlighted below. You can also explore the top features introduced with each feature release with this interactive

10.5 made it even easier for organizations and OEM partners to deploy business intelligence at a larger scale

with new native support for RESTful APIs, new connectivity to OData and SAS data files, and faster access to large

volumes of data on Hadoop and other distributed files systems.

10.6 provided new functionality to distribute dashboards with offline interactivity and introduced a new export

engine that enhances the formatting and delivery of personalized dashboards to end users across the enterprise.

10.6 also introduced enhanced mapping capabilities for MicroStrategy Desktop™, MicroStrategy Web™, and

MicroStrategy Mobile™ with a unified map visualization.

10.7 added a new set of APIs that allows MicroStrategy developers to build custom connectors to almost any data

source. 10.7 also introduced integrations with Natural Language Generation (NLG) providers Automated Insights

and Narrative Science, letting users add intelligent narratives to their dashboards alongside their reports, graphs,

and visualizations. 10.7 also completely re-architected the native Hadoop connector, called the Hadoop Gateway,

that leverages Apache Spark to increase scalability and performance while accessing data directly from HDFS. The

gateway also expanded its support to more file types, including Parquet, Avro, and JSON formats.

10.8 bundled easy workflows to install R and the R Integration Pack with MicroStrategy Server™, making it easier

to leverage machine learning capabilities, AI integration, and predictive analytics. 10.8 also delivered a new gallery

for custom data connectors, enhanced color palettes for data visualizations, improved parity between Android

and iOS mobile apps, new ready-to-deploy dashboards with Usher Professional™, and a lot more.

10.9 introduced Dossier™ and delivered a new storybook experience around analytics. This feature release also

introduced new collaboration capabilities (via discussion threads and real-time comments within the Dossier

interface), MicroStrategy Library™ (a personalized portal for users to access their BI content and dossiers – on

the web and on their mobile devices), visualization filters, redesigned data discovery in MicroStrategy Web,

certification of dossiers, and various other enhancements to our drivers and gateways, our MicroStrategy on AWS

offering, our extensive API library, MDX Queries, and Hierarchy Reporting.

10.10 extended the redesigned data discovery experience to MicroStrategy Desktop. Significantly, it introduced

MicroStrategy Workstation for both Mac and PC. Workstation is a powerful tool that gives administrators and

content developers the ability to quickly and easily build and maintain scalable enterprise content, create users

and groups, assign security roles, and schedule and publish data mashups for business teams. Its integration with

MicroStrategy on AWS enables administrators to easily spin up and manage an enterprise analytics environment

in the cloud in a matter of minutes. 10.10 also added more certifications for new data sources, and 100+

enhancements across the entire MicroStrategy platform.

10.11 continued the trend by adding new out-of-the-box visualizations, intelligent recommendations for

content, prompts for dossiers, and a native MicroStrategy Library app for smartphones. 10.11 added a new

mapping product, MicroStrategy Geospatial Services™, which enables users to visualize and analyze spatial

data with advanced mapping capabilities, including intelligent clustering and aggregation, dynamic layers with

interactive zoom, thresholds for attributes, and more – through an integration with Mapbox. Our MicroStrategy

on AWS customers saw a host of new capabilities in their interfaces with usage statistics across various instances

and services, including details like CPU and memory utilization, number of database connections, and free storage

space--all embedded within their administration interface.

How to Prepare for the Next MicroStrategy Platform Release

• Upgrade. Each MicroStrategy release builds on the previous release. As such, we encourage you to start using

MicroStrategy 10.11 today and upgrade to MicroStrategy 11.0 when it’s available in September. It’ll give you and

your users time with the new range of functionality and an opportunity to report any issues you find ahead of

the platform release in December.

• Sandbox testing – available in minutes. If you’d prefer to try out 11.0 or 10.11 in a test environment, then there’s

no easier or faster way than using MicroStrategy on AWS. Just select the version of MicroStrategy you’d like to deploy,

and a fully configured, optimized version of MicroStrategy will be set up for you in minutes – you can even deploy it

into your existing AWS VPC.

• Sign up to be an Early Adopter. Ask your Account Executive to brief you on our Early Adopter program. This

program allows you to get a head start with the latest features in MicroStrategy. It also provides opportunities

for customers to engage with technology experts and help us shape the product to better suit your needs. If

Extended Support for MicroStrategy 9.4.1™ and MicroStrategy 10.11

Support for the 9.4.1 platform release and 10.11 feature release is now extended until the end of June 2019

to provide you with the flexibility to upgrade to version 11 when it best suits you. The 10.4 platform release

is also supported through December 2020 when you apply the 10.4.8 hotfix that’s coming next week (see

below). A summary of our support policy categorized by release is available here.

Updates to MicroStrategy 10.4 and MicroStrategy 10.11

In the next week, we’ll be publishing information about a hotfix on version 10.4 (hotfix 10.4.8) and a Critical

Update to version 10.11 (10.11 Critical Update 1). Both updates resolve only serious product defects and

further improve the stability, performance, and security for their respective versions. These updates do not

require metadata updates, but rather lay down the patches on top of your existing environment. Additional

information will be provided from our Support organization once these two updates are available.
