The Poultry Industry Council’s mandate is to provide ongoing funding for research projects that focus on the needs of our poultry industry in Canada. It is important that you clearly indicate how your project will contribute towards the achievement of the aims and objectives articulated in the Ontario Poultry Industry Research and Education Strategy which can be found on the LRIC website. Please note: The maximum grant being offered is $50,000-00 and the availability of these large grants is limited. In previous years we received a number of applications that had clearly been completed hastily. Please note that we are looking for a very high standard of application. The quality of the application, clarity with which it describes the method, budget justification and articulation of the relevance of the work to industry is paramount. Please pay particular attention to ensuring that these sections of the application are completed clearly and accurately. Applications will only be considered where: Projects have principal investigators who are working full time in Canadian institutions or organizations. Projects contribute to a potential for economic benefit to the poultry industry in Canada. The research is not duplicating work being undertaken elsewhere. Thank you for your interest in applying to the Poultry Industry Council for research funding. Poultry Industry Council

PROJECT EVALUATION

All projects will be subjected to technical refereeing before undergoing a final assessment by an industry appointed panel representing all of the Ontario Featherboards. The panel will recommend to the Board of Directors of PIC which applications should be approved for funding. Their decision is final and without recourse for appeal.

Final reports will be distributed to members of the LRIC Research Committee and other external adjudicators as required and as determined appropriate by the LRIC Research Committee.

As an adjunct to the final report it is a requirement that you include a summary report of approximately one page, the purpose of which is to be sent out to industry, posted on the LRIC website, and/or

summarized for Canadian Poultry Magazine. The industry report should be written in layman’s language. If necessary, you may include graphs, charts or other visual aids to facilitate understanding of the content in a broad readership of varied educational status.

By accepting funding the applicant agrees to allow publication of a summary of his/her findings in the “PIC Update” pages of Canadian Poultry Magazine.

Funding and support by the Poultry Industry Council must be appropriately acknowledged in publications or presentations by the scientist. Contact the LRIC office for a style guide and copies of our logo etc.
