Making your application name as descriptive as
possible will make it easier for users to find it. Think
about how a user might search for the application,
and think about using those words. Embrace
adjectives to make the title of the application more
intriguing or compelling.
Shorter names will be more memorable and will be
less likely to be truncated because of length when
being displayed in the Windows Store.
Brainstorming ideas for how to get started:
• Find inspiration in other languages. Latin,
German, French, Italian
• Create a collage by cutting out words from
various sources. Mix and match.
• Put together a mood board of images that relate
to your application. Share with others to get a
variety of words and terms to use.
• Consult the Thesaurus – Visual Thesaurus
• Only the first few lines are seen in the description
preview
• Max of 10,000 words for a description
• Communicate the intent of the application
• Get a quick start with Icon Fonts
Screenshots sets the user expectation for the
application experience. If the first screenshot looks
desolate and boring, the user will assume that is true
of the entire application..
A splash screen is shown immediately when the
application is launched. This is the first thing the user
will see when they use your application - make sure
to take advantage of this opportunity to build brand
awareness.

Basics for Self-Promoting
A promotional site provides a unique opportunity to
tell the story of an application. It can be as simple as
a single page and typically includes product images,
feature list, and other essential information.
Before launch, promotional sites often collect emails
for interested parties or have a countdown.
Many choices exist for creating a simple promotional

Many choices exist for creating a simple promotional
site:
A user can rate and review an app a few different
ways: the Window Store, the settings pane and
through a link provided in app.
After a certain amount of engagement time,
consider trying to coax the user to rate and review
the application, if they haven’t.
If a publisher has several application titles, cross
promotion can be an effective way to promote other
applications.

Basics for Being Social
Some social networks to consider:
New social media accounts can be created, or
existing ones can be leveraged. Creating from
scratch allows for unique branding opportunities.
Leveraging existing accounts gives access to already
established networks.
Creating new accounts, and asking people to follow
on existing networks tends to be a good
compromise.
Social networks are the perfect place to have some
fun and show some personality. Think about using
social media to engage users in interesting ways:
