What is an LEL.m

All of these clouds have a Total Path Concentration of 1LEL.m

Industry reports says : Minimum size of a gas cloud which can do any Structural Damage is 5 Metres

Standard Alarms

A1 = 1 LEL.m

A2 = 3 LEL.m

LEL.m indication gives ‘worst case’indication (e.g. all the gas present in 1 metre )

Page 5: Microsoft Power Point - Infra Red Open Path Gas Detectors Haven

SIMPLE - From the above table, if we have a gas cloud of 8 metres distance with a

concentration of 50% LEL, multiply the two to obtain 4 LELm.

Similarly - 5m multiplied by 40% LEL gives 2 LELm.

Benefits of Open Path Infrared Gas Detection

• Reduces quantity of devices

• Reduces cabling & I/O count

• Reduces Power Consumption of F&G System

• Lower maintenance

• No calibration gas required

• Completely fail-to-safe

• Immune to all known poisons

• Faster Response to gas than point detectors

• Compliments point detectors for complete coverage

water vapour

• Water vapour gives a non-linear

response depending on water droplet size.

• EXCEL measures two references ,

one either side of the Sample Wavelength.

• With 2 reference wavelengths,

there is NO risk of false alarmsin bad weather conditions.

Handheld Alignment software

Simple to use bar graph The first line of the display

shows the magnitude of the

current signal level as a bar

graph - SIG.

The second line of the display

shows the target signal level

received as a bar graph -

TGT.

 Use the horizontal and vertical

adjustment screws on the

transmitter and receiver units

to maximise the bar graph SIG

(signal) value.

Only allows system to go active

if the target signal level is met

or exceeded

If signal is too low it displays

 Once optimum alignment is

achieved it displays

 No chance of poor alignment
