Section 4: Requirements

Microsoft is committed to building and supporting the highest quality IT workforce development programs. To that end, certain standards and expectations are set to ensure that schools with the Microsoft IT Academy Program name represent only the best in Microsoft training and development. Students are assured that a Microsoft IT Academy school is distinguished from other schools based on the criteria they have met and the support and development they receive as members. Academies must therefore adhere to the following requirements:

Microsoft Academy Program Guide v4 9

Page 10: Microsoft IT Academy Program Guide v2.doc · Web viewEMEA V.4 Table of Contents Section 1: Forward 3 Section 2: Introducing Microsoft IT Academy Program 4 Microsoft IT Academy Program

Eligibility of Academic InstitutionsIT Pro, IT Pro Plus and Office Specialist membership is open to all qualifying accredited academic institutions, including Continuing Education,. Please note that applicants must provide proof of accredited academic status in the form of their department stamp or letter head.

Deliver training to students of the institutionMembers may deliver training to any student enrolled in its institution, including both academic and continuing education departments, whether such courses are provided on a credit or non-credit basis. Faculty training is encouraged at Academy member campuses with no restrictions.

Members may choose to collaborate with the community, including businesses, to deliver contract IT training as long as the format, structure, and advertising of the class satisfy all the requirements of the Program.

Follow marketing guidelines when promoting classesProgram members must follow the set marketing guidelines when promoting classes. The table below describes both appropriate and inappropriate marketing.

Appropriate InappropriateDirect Mailings: Sending a class schedule or marketing

material promoting the Microsoft IT Academy Program to all addresses in a specific postal code.

Sending a complete class schedule to local businesses, without branding of your Microsoft IT Academy, advising that these classes and customized classes are available for employees.

Providing “contract training” to businesses with which the institution has a continuing relationship.

Direct Mailings: Mailing promotional material that

includes Microsoft IT Academy Program language or branding targeted exclusively to businesses.

Mailing IT class schedules that include the Microsoft IT Academy logo or language related to the Microsoft IT Academy Program to businesses suggesting that the institution is a training resource for IT professionals and/or staff.

Promoting “contract training” to high-tech businesses that the institution is not already in a current, active relationship with.

Radio Advertising: Using language to promote your

Microsoft IT Academy Program to the general population.

Radio/Print/Electronic Advertising: Using these vehicles to promote the

Microsoft IT Academy Program to businesses exclusively.

Printed Advertising: Advertising your Microsoft IT Academy

Program in a newspaper that is non-technical using language that addresses the general population.

Advertising your institution in a trade/industry specific publication, NOT bearing Microsoft IT Academy Program language or branding

Electronic Advertising: Promoting the Microsoft IT Academy

Program to the general population, not to a specific industry or trade.

Promoting your institution to a business that you already have an active relationship with, without using Microsoft IT Academy Program language or branding.

Have instructors with MCP certification in the area of course delivery (or have MCT certification)IT Pro Plus and IT ProInstructors delivering curriculum under the Microsoft IT Academy Program guidelines must be a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in that product area or have MCT certification.

For example, to deliver a Microsoft Windows 2000 course, the instructor must pass the corresponding certification exam. To learn more about MCP and premier certification tracks, visit the members-only site. Schools without a current MCP on staff may join Academy to avail themselves of the faculty training benefit in order to become certified (see Pending Status below). Once an MCP or MCT is on staff or retained as an adjunct faculty member, please notify Microsoft by electronic mail at [email protected] to http://www.microsoft.com/mcp/ for information on certification exams and how to become an MCP or a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT).

Office Specialist membership requires that the Academy courses be taught by a certified Microsoft Office Specialist.

Pending statusIT Pro Plus and IT ProIf the Academy does not have an MCP or MCT on its faculty or has not retained an MCP or MCT as provided below, but meets all other program requirements, the institution will be granted “pending” status for six months in order for the member institution to avail itself of the IT Academy faculty training benefit to become certified. While on pending status the Academy will be entitled to limited benefits. Pending status benefits will not include use of the Academy logo, purchase of student MOC courseware kits and the product license benefit. While an Academy is on pending status, it may NOT use any benefits for the purpose of instructing students. Available benefits may only be used for faculty education purposes in order to facilitate the process of passing certification exams. If during those six months a qualified MCP or MCT is retained to deliver the courses, the remaining benefits will be granted. If at the end of the six-month period a qualified MCP or MCT is not retained to deliver the courses, Microsoft reserves the right to suspend the Academy’s membership until such qualified MCP or MCT is retained. Once a member provides evidence that it has retained an MCP or MCT, full benefits will be made available for the remainder of the membership year.

Partnering with MCTs to fulfill MCP requirementAcademy instructors do not have to be employees of the Academy. At any time an Academy may choose to retain the instructional services of an MCP, or a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) who either works independently or who is affiliated with a school as an employee of a Microsoft Certified Technical Education Center (CTEC). In either case, the Academy Program Administrator is obligated to report the name, MCP ID number, and contact information of the contractor to the Microsoft IT Academy Program Customer Support organization at [email protected]

Office Specialist members will not be accepted without a Microsoft Office Specialist (formerly MOUS) currently on staff.

Deliver a Microsoft certification course no more than 12 hours per weekIT Pro Plus and IT ProInstructor monitored or facilitated Microsoft courses that are based on either MOC or Academic Learning Series (ALS) materials in a must not exceed 12 hours per week. Self-study and unmonitored time are not included in this restriction. The time spent on supplemental material and content, for example, A+ or Cisco materials, does not count towards the 12-hour limit.

Lab time that is instructor monitored or facilitated is included in the 12-hours-per-week limit. This is a per-course limit. Configuration of the instructional format is at the discretion of the institution, as long as the institution adheres to the guidelines set forth herein. Note: The 12-hour per week rule does not preclude delivery of courses that are part of an academic course of study.

Faculty Training and classes exempt from 12-hour limitThe 12 hour per week rule does not apply to delivery of courses that are part of an academic course of study. Academies may deliver and promote Microsoft courses to their local faculty and staff, for the purposes of developing faculty or to develop technology support personnel within a school system. The 12-hour limit is waived for all faculty development courses which may be delivered within any time frame.

Adhere to Microsoft CTEC guidelinesAcademies may participate as Academy program members in their academic department while concurrently operating as Microsoft CTECs in their Continuing Education departments. When such dual memberships occur, licensing and MOC purchases will be mandated by the terms and conditions of the respective memberships with no cross representation of benefits or requirements. Academy program members and Microsoft CTECs operating out of the same institution must order MOC curriculum through their appropriate purchasing channel using their corresponding member ID number. No cross purchasing or cross returns on courseware is permitted. Use of program branding and advertising will be used exclusively for respective programs with no cross representation. (e.g. CTEC classes offered by the Continuing Ed department may NOT be advertised with the associated branding of Microsoft IT Academy.)Note: Academy institutions operating concurrently as Microsoft CTEC partners will be subject to more rigorous auditing procedures. Maintaining all purchasing and return records of MOC materials, as well as any documentation of benefit use from both memberships will be required.

Academies may choose to partner with a Microsoft CTEC to deliver courses in the condensed format through a continuing education program under the following guidelines:

The Microsoft CTEC will hold public, open-enrollment classes at member Academies within their territory.

The Microsoft CTEC will provide the MCT, courseware, and equipment if the member site does not meet the minimum hardware requirements outlined in the Microsoft CTEC Program Guide.

No Microsoft IT Academy Program language or branding may be used in conjunction with the CTEC course.

Members may only use the Microsoft CTEC branding in association with the Microsoft CTEC organization's name. For example, “Microsoft Certified classes conducted at the University are held in cooperation with ABC Training Co. of London, England, a Microsoft CTEC.”

Deliver Microsoft Official CoursewareIT Pro Plus and IT ProAs a participant in the Microsoft IT Academy Program, members may use any combination of the following types of Microsoft Approved Courseware:

Office SpecialistMembers may use Microsoft Press Office materials courseware available at an Academy discounted pricing for members only. Numerous third-party publishers have also developed curriculum suitable for the classroom. These materials may be used to supplement the Microsoft Press courseware that represents the core curriculum materials

Note: eLearning from MOC: The Microsoft provided viewer can be customized. The viewer that is shipped with the eLearning CD may be modified. This includes customization of the table of contents, changing the color scheme and “look and feel” of the viewer. Strict trademark guidelines prevent organizations from adding their company logo to the Microsoft provided viewer that ships with the eLearning product. If additional content is added to the product for use solely within the training lab, the institution’s logo may be added to the “content pane” of the product, in conjunction with the additional content, to indicate that this is the educational institution’s content. If a logo is added in the “content pane” in this context, descriptive language must be used with the logo to clearly indicate the additional content is provided by the institution. For example, “This content provided by (insert your logo here).” NOTE: eMOC is available in English only.

Courses DeliveredMicrosoft designed the Microsoft IT Academy Program to be flexible and meet almost any school’s academic requirements. Courses include most major IT disciplines such as network administration, programming, Internet technology, and database management as well as courses leading to the Microsoft Office Specialist credential. To assist institutions in selecting courses, Microsoft has prepared a recommended networking curriculum for Microsoft IT Academy Program high schools and colleges. The curriculum is recommended, not mandatory. The recommended roadmaps can be found on the Program members-only site.

Adhere to Licensing AgreementAcademy members at all levels must adhere to all license terms contained in any End User License Agreement accompanying Microsoft Products and such other terms and conditions that may be included in this Program Guide or in the Microsoft IT Academy Program Terms and Conditions. In the event of a conflict between the terms of the documents mentioned above, the documents shall control in the following order: The Program Guide, the Microsoft IT Academy Program Terms and Conditions, End User License Agreement.

Microsoft has recently introduced Product Activation technology on its newest products worldwide. Microsoft Product Activation is an anti-piracy technology designed to verify that software products have been legitimately licensed. The activation process limits copying of the software on multiple machines – one activation is required for each copy of software. To provide Academies the ability to install Windows XP Professional software for training use on multiple machines, members will be able to contact customer support ([email protected] and order a volume license version of any of these products, which come with a Volume License Key. Other products that require activation technology (such as Windows XP Professional) will be made available to IT Academy members

through customer support as well. Specific instructions for obtaining the Volume License Key are provided on the members’ private web site.

The Volume License Key assigned to the designated Program Administrator, together with the product media, must be kept secure. The designated Program Administrator may disclose the Volume License Key only to those of its employees who are engaged in the installation and support of the Product, and management of the Academy’s compliance with the terms and conditions of the Microsoft IT Academy Program. The Academy will be held responsible for unauthorized use of the Volume License Key and product media. At no time and under no circumstances may the Volume License Key or product media be disclosed or otherwise provided to any student.

Note: The Academic media versions of Visual Studio and Visual Studio .NET integrate product activation. Hence these products may be installed only once on one machine. Alternatively, the standard full package product of Visual Studio (non-academic sku), which can be purchased at any computer reseller, does not require product activation and can be copied on up to 100 or 50 machines, depending on the Academy’s level of membership. Visual Studio .NET Professional (no product activation) is available for purchase through the IT Academy Program Customer Support organization.

Retain and report on student and faculty recordsAcademies will be asked to report data via the online application form, including but not limited to: how many students were trained on Microsoft courses over the previous year, how many faculty members achieved new certification, which courses were offered. Submitting this information is mandatory to complete the registration process. Any data collected will be used for research to improve the Program on an aggregate basis. No individual Academy’s information will be released without the Academy’s consent.

Have an e-mail account and Internet connectionTo ensure ongoing and consistent communication, every Academy must be able to communicate by electronic mail with Microsoft and to connect to the Internet.

Meet hardware/classroom set-up requirementsAll Membership LevelsParticipating Academies must meet hardware and set-up requirements for students and faculty. In addition, certain facility configurations will enhance the learning experience. Below is a chart with suggested hardware requirements for student systems. It is for planning purposes only. Actual requirements are subject to the course delivered. For updated general and course specific hardware requirements, visit the Program members-only site.
