AWARD for EXCELLENCE in COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SAFETY

The annual Award for Excellence in Commercial Vehicle Safety recognizes law enforcement agencies for exceptional and innovative initiatives that target commercial vehicle operations and enhance traffic safety. The award, sponsored by the Michigan State Police, Motor Carrier Division, and the Michigan Truck Safety Commission, will be awarded for activities conducted in calendar year 2007, and be presented at the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, Mid-winter Conference in January 2008. Awards will be given in five separate categories as follows:

1. Municipal Agencies of 1-10 Certified Officers 2. Municipal Agencies of 11-35 Certified Officers 3. Municipal Agencies of 36+ Certified Officers 4. Sheriff Departments 5. Michigan State Police Posts

The winning agencies in each category will be offered $6,000 grants to be used for the purchase of equipment. Eligible equipment to purchase with grant funds includes:

Portable scales Digital camera In car video 35 mm camera Radar Rechargeable flashlight Laser speed measuring device Height measuring stick Laptop computer

In addition, the winner in each category will receive a plaque, and all nominees will receive a certificate of recognition. A panel of three judges consisting of one representative each from the MSP Motor Carrier Division, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the Michigan Truck Safety Commission, will review the nominations and select a winner in each category based upon merit.
