Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958-June 25, 2009) was a son of Katherine and Joseph Jackson with his five brothers: Tito, Randy, Marlon, Jermaine and Jackie Jackson. He was an American recording artist, dancer, singer and songwriter. As the king of pop, Michael is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time. His contribution to music, dance and fashion made him a global figure. The eighth child of the Jackson family was with his 5 brothers a member of the Jackson 5, and began his solo career in 1971.



In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs “Beat It”, “Billie Jean” and “Thriller”, were an a promotional tool and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as “Black or White” and “Scream” made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Michael also popularized a number of dance techniques such as robot and moonwalk.



Jackson’s album Thriller (1982 )is the best-selling album of all time. Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous(1991) and History (1995) are also in the rank of the world’s best selling. He had also other achievements like: 13 Grammy awards, 26 American music awards and 13 number 1 singles in the US. His last rehearsal before dying was the one for the This Is It show. He was also a notable humanitarian by donating , and helping children.
