Michael Jackson 1958-2009: Remembering the King of Pop

It was five years ago on June 25, 2009 that the world lost one of its biggest pop stars....

Michael Jackson, 1970. Back when the King of Pop was just a prince, 11-year-old Michael Jackson began to wow the world with his enormous talent.

The Jackson 5 formed in 1962 and by 1968 they were signed to Motown record lable. Michael sang lead vocals for most of the band's songs and his unique and youthful sound helped them soar to the top of the charts.

Michael Jackson, 1972. By his teen years, Michael Jackson had risen to international fame. In 1971, he went solo and his singles "Got to Be There," "Rockin' Robin" and "I Wanna Be Where You Are" topped the charts.

Michael Jackson's 'Michael' album, 2010. While fans mourned the loss of the legendary singer, Epic Records and Sony Music Entertainment released an album on Dec. 10, 2010 titled "Michael," his first compilation album of previously unreleased tracks beyond the grave. Akon, 50 Cent and Lenny Kravitz were among the guest performers on MJ's highly anticipated album released more than a year after his untimely death.

Michael Jackson receives Lifetime Achievement Award, 2010. More than six months after his death, Michael Jackson was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, 2010. His children Paris and Prince accepted the award on their father's behalf.
