Programme descriptionFive universities across Europe, all specialising in corporate communication and

public relations in international proessional contexts, have joined orces to create

a unique joint programme oering you the ull benet o their collective expertise

and international networks.

The consortium oers you an internationally developed programme, which was

nancially supported by the European Union.

The Master in International Communication (MIC) is a postgraduate ulltimeprogramme or bachelors in communication or related elds. It prepares you or

an international career as a communication practitioner in senior managerial or

consultancy positions, responsible or the external and internal communication o

an organisation.

Programme outlineThe MIC programme consists o three semesters (90 credits).

During the rst semester you will study at your home university, and the second

semester at one o the consortium partner universities. During the third semester,

you will write your dissertation under the supervision o two o the partneruniversities. This programme starts each September.

Educational conceptThe programme has a competency-based, hands-on approach.

As part o a team, you will design communication strategies or clients needing

results. Academic achievement is not enough to be successul in this programme.

You will have to prove yoursel as a creative problem solver able to measure up

to proessional standards as well as academic excellence. In order to ensure that

you receive the ull benet o an intercultural environment, the student body is

internationally diverse.

Graduate proleAs a graduate o the Master in International Communication you will be a

competent intercultural communication proessional able to work in a global

context. You will be able to anticipate change and develop, implement and

manage sustainable and eective communication campaigns. As a graduate, you

will have the skills and knowledge needed to work in the communication industry

at management level.

ProgrammeSemester 1 – Professionalising communication

The rst semester introduces you to the ull breadth o the proession. What are the

roles and responsibilities o the communication proessional in an organisation rom

a strategic perspective? Which main unctional areas are there? How does culture

infuence communication? What is the relationship between the organisation and its

international and intercultural environment? The semester consists o two modules:

• International business environment

• Corporate communication in an intercultural context

Semester 2 – The communication professional in context

During the second semester you will complete a number o specialisations rom one o

the partner schools. Specialisations are, by denition, in tune with what is happening

in the proessional eld and can change accordingly. The consortium oers you a broad

spectrum o proessional specialisations, roles and tasks. During the specialisations, you

will analyse and solve a communication problem or an outside client.

Semester 3 – The dissertation

The graduation assignment consists o a master’s dissertation.

You must demonstrate mastery o those competencies required to obtain the title

Master in International Communication. You will choose a proessional role and in

that role solve and analyse a problem or an outside client (working in-house or as a

consultant). The result o that product is based on applied research, using an appropriate

methodology. Every problem requires a solution rom an international or intercultural

perspective. The dissertation is completed under the supervision o two universities.

Geert Hostede ConsortiumThe consortium is proud to carry the name o Proessor Dr. Geert Hostede,

pioneer and international leading scientist in the eld o international

communication. The ve partners o the consortium are situated in university

cities across Europe giving you the opportunity to study in vibrant academic

Two degreesThe consortium oers a joint international programme. You will study at two

consortium partners. Each partner you study at will award you a master degree.

Hanze UAS oers a Master in International Communication. Graduates will also

receive a consortium certicate stating that the programme is an international joint master programme, developed with the support o the European Union.

All degrees are ully accredited.
