PREDICTABILITY & ASSURANCE
TUITIONPROMISE
MIAMI’S
2019 – 2020
We understand that choosing a college is one of the most important decisions you and your family will ever make. That’s why we offer an extra layer of assurance: Miami’s Tuition Promise.
It’s our guarantee to all first-time undergraduate
students and their families that tuition (instructional fee
and general fee), room and board, special purpose fees,
and course fees will be frozen, making them completely
predictable for four years.
With this additional level of certainty, you and your
family will be able to confidently plan your financial
investment in a Miami University education. And you
can rest assured that your renewable scholarships and
financial aid dollars will maintain their value over the
four years of your Miami experience.

How long does Miami’s Tuition Promise last?
The four academic years of the tuition promise include eight consecutive semesters, in addition to four
winter and four summer terms. Tuition is set by Miami’s Board of Trustees each academic year and
guaranteed regardless of enrollment status (full- or part-time or not enrolled) for eight consecutive
semesters for each entering cohort. Winter and summer terms are charged separately based on the
guaranteed cohort per-credit-hour rate.
Who qualifies for Miami’s Tuition Promise?
Miami’s Tuition Promise applies to first-time undergraduate students — both Ohio and non-Ohio
resident first-year, transfer, or international students who enroll in a degree-seeking program on
Miami’s Oxford campus.

MAKING THE COST OF COLLEGE
PREDICTABLEWhat is included in Miami’s Tuition Promise?
The program covers tuition (instructional fee and general fee), room and board, special purpose fees,
and course fees. Fees are charged to all students for non-instructional services and programs on campus,
such as student life facilities, programs, and transportation. Special purpose fees help defray the cost
of some specialized academic programs, and course fees may offset the cost of instructional materials
or other costs associated with the course.
What costs are not included as part of Miami’s Tuition Promise?
Other fees and charges incurred by students for items such as vehicle registration, textbook purchases
or rentals, and library and parking fees and fines, are excluded from the guarantee program and may
be subject to price changes. Miami University seeks to limit increases to these costs.
Are room and board included?
Room and board, often referred to as housing and
meals, are also fixed for each cohort. Students
pay a fee based on the housing and meal plan
selected. If a student chooses a different
residential or meal plan option after enrolling,
the fixed cost will be adjusted based on the rates
set at the time of initial enrollment.
