Beaker

Not for measurement. Glass or plastic. They come in several sizes and are used to contain substances and perform chemical reactions. It may be heated.

Test tube rack

Wood or plastic. It is used to hold test tubes in place in a vertical position.

Mortar and pestle

Porcelain. It is used to grind crystals and lumpy chemicals to a powder.

Test tubes

Glass. It is used to perform chemical reactions. It may be heated.

Crucible and cover

Porcelain. It is used to heat small amounts of solid substances at high temperatures.

Graduated cylinder

Glass or plastic. It is used to measure approximate volumes. It must not be heated.

Watch glass

Glass. It is used to cover an evaporating dish or beaker.

Gas collecting tube or eudiometer

Glass. It is used to measure the volume of the gas being collected.

Evaporating dish

Porcelain. It is used to contain small volumes of liquids being evaporated.

Volumetric pipet

Glass. It is used to measure the volume of solutions accurately.. It must not be heated.

Florence flask

Glass. It is used to make or to store solutions. It may be heated.

Thermometer

It is used to measure the temperature.

Plastic. It is used to squeeze sides to deliver water.

Metal. When fastened to the ring stand, it holds test tubes being heated, or a buret.

Glass. It is used to perform titrations. It may be heated.

Condenser

Glass. It is used to condense the evaporated liquid in distillations.

Must be worn at all times while working in the laboratory.

Rubber policeman and stirring rod

Glass. It is used to sti, assist in pouring liquids and for removing precipitates from a container.

Rod with nichrome wire

Metal or glass. It is used in flame tests.

Graduated pipet

Glass. It is used to measure the volumes of solutions. It is less accurate than the volumetric pipet.

Test tube holder

Metal. It is used to hole test tubes or glass tubing.

Pipet bulb

Rubber. It is used in filling a pipet with a solution. A pipet must never be filled by mouth.

Clay triangle

Metallic wire frame with porcelain to support crucibles when they are heated.

Ring clamp

Metal. When fastened to the ring stand, it can hold a container being heated with the aid of the wire gauze.

Scoopula and Metal spatula

Metal or porcelain. It is used to transfer solid chemicals.

Balance

It is used to measure the mass of chemicals with the aid of beakers or other containers. Never place chemicals directly on the balance pan.

Crucible tongs

Metal. It is used to pick up and hold small items.

Burner and Rubber tubing

Metal. When connected to a gas supply with rubber tubing is used to heat chemicals in beakers, test tubes or crucibles.

Test tube brush

It is used to scrub small diameter glassware.

Wire gauze and ceramic square

It is used to spread the heat of a burner flame and to place hot glassware on top to prevent glass from breaking.
