Horton ADDRESS: 2231 Prairie Avenue REPORTS TO: Office of Applied Technology, Adult, & PHONE: 305-532-4515 Career Education FAX: 305 531-9719 GRADE ORGANIZATION: Adult/Community School Miami Beach Adult & Community Education Center opened its doors to the community of Miami Beach as an adult education center in September 1989. The center shares facilities with Miami Beach Senior High School. Classes are also offered at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Elementary, Biscayne Elementary, and Treasure Island Elementary schools, and other off-campus satellite sites. The service area includes the municipalities of Miami Beach, Bal Harbor, Bay Harbor Islands, North Bay Village, and the town of Surfside. On-campus offerings include a high school completion program in conjunction with Miami Beach Senior High School “nigh school” classes. Program offerings include English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Office Occupations, Multimedia Presentation Designer (Computer Graphics Design), Web Design, Culinary Arts, and Computer Electronics Technology, including MSA+Certification, networking, fiber optics, and the use of other platforms and operating systems. Classes are offered from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8: 30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Instruction is available in most disciplines for remedial and regular instruction by computer-assisted or traditional learning. English Discoveries, a 30-computer station ESOL lab, provides computer assisted and computer-managed instruction with individual assistance in nine native languages. A myriad of adult basic, general adult, and adult senior (elderly), using Webtv, are offered free or at a nominal cost on-campus and off-campus by the center at Douglas Gardens Community Mental Health Center, Log Cabin Training Center, Jewish Community Center, North Shore Activity Center, North Shore Recreation Center, 21 st Community Center, W. Shane Watersports Center, Sufside Community Center, Vocational ESOL (VESOL) and Hotel Management are strong components of the Business & Industry services provided to the Miami Beach and coastal communities. Success stories include the Roney Palace Hotel, the Hotel (Tiffany), West Gate Resort Hotel, and The Park Central Hotel. Various community organizations and clubs meet regularly at the center.
