Chang Foot Massage and Spa

Airside - Concourse A. Level 3

Airside - Concourse G. Level 3

The Chang Foot Massage and Spa centre is located on the third floor at concourse A and G on Level 3.

Here you can relax with their full range of massage services, have a foot massage, manicure or pedicure or take a sauna. Pricing is extremely reasonable and you are going to feel so refreshed afterwards that your flight delay will become a distant memory. Without a doubt The Chang Foot Massage and Spa is one of

Page 3: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

the most popular places in Bangkok airport and attracts a great deal of attention on this website. If you need to take a shower in Bangkok Airport then ask at the desk.

With respect to the massages in the airport, they are located near food court. Chang Foot Massage: They do manicure, aromatherapy, facial, Thai traditional massages, pedicure, and foot massages. Locations: Concourse G - 4th Floor (+662 134 1373), Concourse A - 3rd (+662 134 1377) and 4th Floor (+662 134 1375). You can call to find out their hours.

Three locations: Level Three of main terminal; International departure area, Level Four, Concourse G; and International transit area, Level Three, east intersection. Chang provides a fairly standard menu of Thai spa services, from a quick foot massage up to full Thai massage and aromatherapy. Those arriving on long-haul flights might especially appreciate the shower option. If time is limited, try having two staffers work on you at the same time. While the prices might be a little expensive by Thai standards, two hours of aromatherapy and a shower will set you back a lot less than a day room.

Louis' Tavern Day Room

Airside - Concourse G. Level 4. If you don't have the chance to leave the airport then the Louis' Tavern Day rooms are available inside the airport at two locations. The day rooms area a really convenient option if you need to a rest or have a shower between flights. This choice is very popular with international travellers, especially at night and it may not be available at short notice.

Comfortable and Reclining Chairs

If you experience a Bangkok airport flight delay, where your conecting flight is delayed for a substantial amount of time, then there are some areas that have been kitted out with Lazee Boy style reclining chairs. These are extremely comfortable and great if you need to sleep or have a short nap. The chairs are located in Level 3, Concourse C, just past Louis' Tavern lounge and further along than the Thai Airways lounges. There are also some on Level 4 Concourse B and another block outside the Emirates lounge.

Smoking Room

Nothing is going to stress you more than finding out that your flight has been delayed. If you need to have a cigarette break then there a number of smoking rooms set aside for smokers. There are many smoking rooms spread throughout the airport, with the majority located at the interections of the Concourses on Level 2.

Internet

The airport has free 30 minutes of internet available to you on your laptop, so even if you cannot get into one of the airline lounges you can get some short access. Free internet access computers have also been set up in the vicinity of the Lazee Boy reclining chairs, so really

There are two places here where you can get a bird’s-eye view of Kuala Lumpur: the Petronas Twin Towers’ skybridge and the KL Tower’s observation platform. Linking Tower 1 and Tower 2, the skybridge is suspended at 170 metres above ground and is supported by a three-hinged arch comprising giant round bearings at the base and a pair of 51-metre steel legs. Although admission to the skybridge is free, visitors have to get here early to obtain tickets to the skybridge as only a certain amount of visitors is allowed per day, and the queue can get impossibly long.

Equipped with four express lifts which takes you to the top in less than a minute, the KL Tower’s observation deck stands at 276 metres above ground and comes complete with an audio tour in 11 languages. Visitors who purchase tickets to the observation platform can also gain entry to the Outdoor Winter Park, the KL Tower Animal Zone, the Forest in the City during the day, the Light & Sound Show at night, and experience being an F1 driver at the F1 Stimulator Zone.

BINTANG WALK from KL Convention Centre to Pavillion:

The walkway runs from the Convention Centre near to Traders Hotel, near the Aquaria, to Pavillion. There are a number of exits along the way but I have never used them so I am not sure where they go. The walk from start to finish only take 10 -15 minutes. Connected to other concourses under the Convention Centre and Suria KLCC, you can walk from Suria KLCC Mall [under the PETRONAS Towers], to the Convention Centre, then up a small flight of stairs to the walkway proper [as the others say]. If you want to walk outside then you can walk through the park to the convention centre, but inside is all a/c.

One exit goes to the Impiana Hotel, and there is another 2, but can't remember what they were, but it is all very well signposted. From the Pavillion to KLCC took us about 15mins stroll. Nice walk.

It is much easier than walking around the streets like it just to be!

Bukit Bintang - KLCC Pedestrian Walkway is a 1.173km-long pedestrian bridge that connects Pavilion KL to Impiana KLCC Hotel and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The other portion of this walkway is a pedestrian tunnel on the convention centre’s concourse level linked to Suria KLCC shopping centre.

Also known as the Pavilion-KLCC pedestrian bridge, there are several entrance and exit points (escalators and staircases) along the bridge: one is located at Connection (an al-fresco dining and entertainment strip at Pavilion KL), while the others are at busy areas such as Jalan Pinang, Jalan Perak, Jalan Raja Chulan and the KL Convention Centre. Also accessible via this bridge is the Raja Chulan monorail station and the KLCC LRT station.

Kuala Selangor Fireflies Tour Kuala Lumpur Itinerary

Here is the summary of Kuala Selangor tour Kuala Lumpur activity we covering during the tour. Not all details and history of the site we published it online to protect our copyright.

Kuala Selangor fireflies tour start by visiting the 126 years Hindu Temple in Batu Caves. Most of tourist thought Batu Caves is a Bat Caves due the similarity of spelling. Batu its giving a meaning rocks or stone. Established in 1888 by Mr. Kayaroganan Pillai, the Hindu Temple in Batu Caves has a reputation as the biggest Temple for Tamil people in Malaysia. Standing at 42.7 meter, Lord Murugan Statue located at the base of Caves becoming one of the main attractions when its fully completed in 2005. Besides the two huge statue, Batu Caves main attractions is the 400 million years caves and the Limestone Stalactite hanging on the ceiling.

Besides watching fireflies, Kuala Selangor also well known for others attractions such as Nature Park, Seafood, Bird Watching, Eagle Feeding and historical site. Before we had a dinner at Selangor Riverbank, wee visit one of historical site known as Bukit Malawati (Malawati Hills). From the submit of the hills, tourist will able to see the Strait of Malacca and Selangor Rivers. Bukit Malawati was used by Second Sultan of Selangor (Sultan Ibrahim Shah) as administrator center and fortress. In 1784, Bukit Malawati was known as Altingsburd Fort when Dutch invaded the hills. Today, Bukit Malawati also known as Monkey Hills due the large number of two species of Silver Leaf Monkey and Long Tail Macaque.

Dinner will served at one of Seafood Restaurant located along the Selangor Riverbank. Alternate menu such Chicken base and vegetarian can be arrange. For Western food we only can offer Fast Food Kentucky Fried Chicken, MC Donald and Pizza Hut.  Please note we not able to served any Jain Vegetarian Food  (NO Garlic and NO Onion).

To watching fireflies in their nature environment we had to travel to Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park about 15 minutes driving from the restaurant. There are three species of Fireflies can be seen in Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park. The local boatman will bring the best spot to see hundred thousand of fireflies flashing their light illuminate the night. Tourist will be able to watch the amazing Pteroptyx Tener fireflies species synchronized the light at the same time resemble Christmas Tree. The entire Kuala Selangor Fireflies Tour Kuala Lumpur is privately organized including during Kuala Selangor Fireflies boat trip. Definitely giving a tourist flexibility to spending special moments together in style.

Things to Bring During Kuala Selangor Fireflies Tour Kuala Lumpur

Sa, 22.02.2014:

Thean Hou Temple: entweder zu Fuß aber KL Sentral (schon ca. 15 min.), aber besser mit Taxi.

We stopped over here before our tour, we are really happy we got a chance to see this place! IT's really beautiful, love the garden with all the animals at the front. You can also see both the Petronas Towers and KL Tower from the top of the temple! If you can make it here there are a couple of things worth seeing. The "zodiac garden" out front is neat. The temple itself is quite festive. Doubly so when I was there since they were getting ready for new years. Dont miss the turtle pond out back either. The main temple is located upstairs and one can climb to the tower to see the scenic view of the city.

WENN MIT TAXI:

Page 10: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

Weiter zum Merdeka Square: Sultan Abdul Samad BuilingContinuing along the edge of Merdeka Square on Jalan Raja Laut you will pass the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the best known symbol of Malaysia until the Petronas Towers were built and still today one of the most photographed buildings in Malaysia

The flagpole which holds the flag of Malaysia is the highest in the world, towering at a height of 100 meters. Merdeka Square is a historical site where Malaya declared its independence. If you are a fan of the Malayan history, you can come here and take some pictures. The field in front of Merdeka Square was officially named as Dataran Merdeka on 1st January in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 1990. There are many attractions nearby the Merdeka Square. For shoppers, you can come over to Central Market Kuala Lumpur to buy some local souvenirs and food and at the same time learn about the different cultures of the society that makes up Malaysia.

Kurzer Walk zur Masjid Jamek Mosque: aber nur von außen (nicht rein)

Masjid Jamek:

A nice beautiful mosque which marks the area and many Indian stores. It has all types of stores .. food, cloths, crockery, medicine, meat .. you will find everything there.. It is easily accessible through Kelana Jaya Train track.

VARIANTE 2: Ankunft mit MRT bei Station Masjid Jamek – View (eventuell inkl. Little India Shops) und weiter zum Merdeka Square.

VARIANTE 3: HOP ON HOP OFF BUS, RM 45p.p. (Plan siehe Maps, hält an alles interessanten Punkten, auch direkt beim Hotel) The City Tour runs a continuously circle daily from 9.00am until 8.00pm at around 30 minutes intervals. Rundkurs dauert ca. 2 h.

CENTRAL MARKET:

The Central Market is made up of a few floors which are occupied by many stalls. Another place where locals and tourists should visit is the Petaling Street (Chinatown) as this is the best place to taste local street foods and purchase all sorts of things. The Petaling Street is full of stalls ranging from souvenirs to fruits and even imitation goods of designer brands

Central Market is located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Foch Avenue) and the pedestrian only section of Jalan Hang Kasturi (Rodger Street), a few minutes away from Petaling Street.

What to buy: Antiques, souvenirs, accessories, local craft, batik , Chinese medicine

Central Market is accessible through Pasar Seni LRT station on the Kelana Jaya Line.Opening hours for Kuala Lumpur Central Market is from 10am to 10pm daily but some shops open in the morning a little later around 11am. To get to Central Market, the easiest way is to take the Putra LRT train and get off at the "Pasar Seni” station. As you exit the station, you will be able to see the market directly opposite the main road.

Jalan Hang KasturiKasturi Walk is a covered, open-air flea market set along Jalan Kasturi, a lane running alongside Central Market. Here, you’ll find local snacks and vendors selling fake label handbags, watches, T-shirts, flip flops and more as well as fruit stalls. It is similar to Petaling Street but not as crowded.

Page 11: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

Right over the front entrance of the tiled walkway is a pewter wau bulan (a type of Malay kite) which looks like a butterfly. Although Kasturi Walk does not have the same extensive range of traders as Petaling Street the goods are reasonably priced plus its convenient location makes a trip here worthwhile. It was established in early 2011, so it all looks fairly new with clean kiosks and stalls.

Sri Mahamariamann Tempel:The temple is small but well attended by followers. Free to enter. Must remove shoes, but for a few coins you can use their shoe storage service. Unique building, well kept. Sit on the floor of the temple and observe the comings and goings of the locals.

Lots of foreigners visit the temple, given its proximity to Chinatown and Central market. You will be in the area, so why not go? This temple is right in the center of town and quite convenient. If you are at the Central Market, you only need to walk about 2 blocks and you will be right in front of it.

It is free to enter and cost about .4RM to have them put your shoes in a bin. My girlfriend and I did that and then gave them the rest of the 1RM bill and they seemed so happy it was wonderful.

You do have to remove your shoes and that is true of all Hindu temples as far as I know. It is not a a big deal.

The architecture is quite nice and it is a beautiful temple. I would definitely recommend it as it is so easy to find and is a very quite and calm retreat in the middle of busy Kuala Lumpur.

Also, the doors of the altars are closed when the rituals aren't being held. This means that you will not see as much as if you arrive when they are praying. Still worth a visit no matter what time.

GUAN DI TEMPLE: AUCH AM WEG

PETALING STREET – CHINATOWN (10am – 10pm)This is the place to go if you're after good quality rip-off brands. Wait until around midday when most of the stalls will be open along each side of the street or until evening when the street is packed with stalls. You can buy just about anything here. Joggers are around $20, a magnetic money clip about $2. While the street offers plenty of fakes there are a couple of shops with the real thing - and with real prices. Walking from the archway, turn left at the intersection and not far down on the left there's a great eating spot where you can choose traditional food from several outlets. Great food and very low prices. It's a few minutes stroll to get the Skytrain or a reasonable walk to Bukit Bintang.

Jalan Bukit Bintang offers endless choices when it comes to after-dark entertainment. Many restaurants here are equipped with a bar that comes into full swing at night, and many hotels lining the street also have their own trendy watering holes and nightclubs. Karaoke lounges can be found in abundance here, many of which also offer private rooms, entertaining patrons well into the night no matter which day of the week it is. Part of Piccolo Hotel, right next to Ristorante L’Opera, Clique Lounge Bar provides a highly stylish chill-out space with its plush crimson interior and cosy ambience, where patrons can enjoy live telecasts of their favourite sports games or indulge in an evening of romantic wining and dining. Above The Ship restaurant, there’s a popular nightspot called Captain’s Cabin Funtheque, featuring live performances, themed nights, games and a different set of tunes played every hour. Another popular nightclub located within the five-star Grand Millennium is the Pulse Ultra Club, deemed the hottest new nightspot in town, which features a large balcony overlooking Bintang Walk and a bar cum lounge area with deejays and live bands, as well as an elegant and intimate Champagne Lounge.

JALAN ALOR: Food area market – eventuell hier auch Essen, aber auf jeden Fall bummeln

If you have only one night in KL, make this your stop for dinner. So many offerings to choose from, all delicious. The atmposphere is so festive and you are right in there with the locals; not touristy at all although most restaurants will have an English menu to help you pick out what you'd like. The best part? The walk back to the monorail station takes you by lots of reflexology and foot massage businesses worth your business after walking around KL all day.

Came here with my family in December. Went to W.A.W Restaurant and ordered their famous chicken wings. Great taste but slow service due to the amount of people dining there. Would go back again. Has a good selection of other food stalls.

CHANGKAT StreetDuring the night, walk down the hill to the even more bustling Changkat bar and club area.

The dining options along Changkat Bukit Bintang are endless. It has been said that this is the street with the most vibrant restaurant scene in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Dedicated foodies would love the wide variety of gastronomic delights available here, from authentic, traditional dishes to fusion fare. Quaint and unique, the eateries here are as singular in décor as in menu. Due to the variety of international offerings that can be found here, Changkat Bukit Bintang is sometimes dubbed the ‘United Nations of Fine Dining’. There’s Japanese (Yoko’s), Indian (The Mogul House), French (Le Bouchon), German (Deutches Haus), English (The Green Man), Lebanese (The Al Bait), Cuban (Little Havana), Brazillian (Bom Brazil Churrascaria), Russian (Dusha), Italian (Flam’s) and Thai (Baan 26). Alternatively, if you are not feeling too adventurous palate-wise, there are also restaurants that offer fusion delights such as Werner’s, twenty.one and Frangipani. Aside from a medley of authentic and fusion international cuisine, the street also has some specialty restaurants. For pork-lovers, there’s Elcerdo, a restaurant specialising in all things pork, and for fans of good old fish and chips, there’s The Magnificent Fish and Chips Bar, touted as the best fish-and-chips restaurant in town.

SkyBar at Traders Hotels in KL: nur ein Drink und View auf Skyline

Sky Bar is a glamorous cocktail lounge set on the 33rd floor of Traders Hotel KL. A local institution, this rooftop nightclub is quite possibly the coolest venue on KL’s nightlife scene – the place to see and be seen at. It is recommended not only for ist good location and giddying views over the city, but also its excellent drinks. Airy and sexy, the centrepiece at Sky Bar is a pool that is bordered by ‘cabanas’ (large sunken alcoves with chaise longues) on one side, and a bar area with sofas and woven rattan high tables and bar stools on the other. We recommend you grab a cabana to make the most of the full height windows and get the best views of KL city. The panorama from the bar area is no less impressive – a skylight overhead makes you feel like you are on top of the world, with KL’s famous twin towers clearly visible. Sky Bar has no theme or overplayed concept, but this industrial-chic bar has definite character and feels like a secret club with a refined, sultry vibe to it.

Your Malacca day trip first stop is Saint Peter Church. The church was built-in 1710 by Portuguese people with support and contribution from Dutch community. The land was donated by Dutch gentleman name Franz Amboer who became a Catholic. After 300 years since the church was built is still used for religious ceremonies especially wedding ceremony. The oldest part of the Church is the bell. The bell was cast in India dated 1608.

Malacca River Cruise is the main attractions in Malacca. We included as part of Malacca day trip itinerary without any additional charges. We do Malacca River Cruise in the morning because this is the best time for tourist enjoying the scenery of Malacca Riverbank. The 45 minutes river cruise covering 4.5 km along Malacca rivers show interesting historic residency and traditional village area such First Cross Street Kampung Morteen. (Morteen Village)

Portuguese built the fortress in 1521 known as A Famosa to protect them from attack by Sultan of Malacca and local people to seize  Malacca. When Dutch took over Malacca they rebuilt the fortress become thicker and higher. During the Dutch revolution British took over controlling Malacca temporary and worry the fortress will be use by French they decided to demolished it.

During the golden age Malacca Sultanate Government, apart from the fame part of Malacca. They are also good in constructing a building using  limited tools. A very good example, the replica of Malacca Sultanate was built without using any nails. The architecture of this palace is taken from the reign of Sultan Mansor Syah. Sultan Mansor Syah ruled Malacca from 1456 – 1477. Currently the Palace also known as Culture Museum.

During Malacca day trip, we will do a little bit of walking and climbing. To visit Saint Paul Church we need to climb 180 steps of Saint Paul Hill. Tourist is advice to wearing a good walking shoes. Saint Paul Church originally just a small chapel built in 1521 by Captain Duarte Coelho as gratitude to Virgin Mary after he survived from a storm on the way to Malacca from Goa, India. In here, tourist able to see the open grave belongs to Saint Francis Xavier and grave slap written in few language included Latin.

Lunch will be served at the Baba Nyonya Restaurant. Baba and Nyonya are descendant straits born Chinese who intermarried with local people either from Siam, Malaysia or Sumatra Island. The women known as Nyonya while the man called Baba. Most of them came from Hokkien China migrate to Malaysia or Indonesia in 15th and 16th century. To know Baba and Nyonya descendant closer, we visit Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum situated in Millionaire row. Our next destination during Malacca day trip is Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. Its was built by Kapitan Tay Kie Ki in 1645. The temple was heavily influenced by architectural style and craftsmanship of Southern Chinese, mainly from Fujian and Guangdong.  Besides Kapitan Tay Kie Ki, others Kapitan such Kapitan Lee Wei King, Kapitan Chan Lak Kua and Kapitan Chua Su Cheong also contribute to the construction of this temple. This temple consists few prayer room, the biggest prayer halls dedicated to god of mercy.

Our Malacca day trip from Kuala Lumpur itinerary is privately organized. Indeed, this giving more flexibility to tourist spending their time during the trip. An ample time will be giving to visitor to roaming in Jonker Street either for shopping or sightseeing. Hard Rock Cafe Malacca among a popular spot for those looking a collectable item such Shirt and Pin.

Dutch Square consisted Stadhuys Building, Chris Church and Victoria Fountain. In here all the building was painted in red color, no one know why the building here had a red color. There are few theory about its, one of the theory says during British colonize Malacca they want to identify the building built by Dutch and by British.

Before we conclude day tour to Malacca from Kuala Lumpur, we stop at Strait Malacca Mosque for a photo stop. This is a perfect spot for a photo shoot and for tourist to feel and see how the longest straits in the world looks. Situated at the man-made island known as Malacca Island, the

Strom-Adapter

Skybus or Aerobus departs from KL Sentral every half an hour, starting from 3.00am. Both the buses go directly to LCCT.

If you stayed at the Brickfields area you can just walk to KL Sentral in less than 10 minutes (5 if you stay at Hilton/Le Meridian or  myHotel Brickfield). It's quite safe even in the wee hours. My friend and I walked from Puduraya all the way to KL Sentral at 3.30am 2 weeks ago, with backpacks so it's ok.

But if you are staying else where, be prepared to fork some extra ca$h as taxi will levy a midnight charge for the hours you will be going to the airport. Its better that you book your taxi through the hotel or call the taxi company directly and ask for a price quote, instead of flagging one right from the street. LRT/monorel services will only start around 6am.

Beste Route: grüne Linie North Point to CentralTake the MTR Island Line to North Point. Exit the station via Exit B2 to emerge on King’s Road. Cross King’s Road and follow it to the left for about 200 yards until reaching a junction in the tram tracks where trams emerging from the short loop to North Point Tram Terminus along Chun Yeung Street rejoin the main line. The terminus is on the left and here visitors can join an empty tram and occupy the upper deck front seats for excellent views. Alight at the Western Market stop as there's not much to see after that (North Point – Western Market, ca. 40-45 Minuten)For tourists, I would recommend taking the tram from Central to Happy Valley, Causeway Bay or North Point (or vice versa).

Probably one of the most popular ways to get to Victoria Peak, other than the Peak Tram of course, is via CityBus Bus route 15.  Not 15C which is also considered part of the route to The Peak, but takes you only to the lower Peak Tram terminus, but Bus 15 which takes you all the way to The Peak itself. If you choose to use Bus 15 to go to The Peak it will take at least 40 minutes, possibly an hour if there are road works or traffic jams, so it is quite a slow way to go.  On the other hand it is an interesting route with lots to see and of course being a simple public bus it is extremely cheap, just HK$9.80 per person and half price for children. The Bus 15 starts at the public ferry piers in central which is a mildly inconvenient place to get to, unless of course you happen to have just gotten off a ferry!  The first stop is outside ferry pier 5 which takes ferries for Cheung Chau, and the next stop is outside the world famous Star Ferry pier which goes to Tsimshatsui in Kowloon. Piers 4, to Lamma Island, and 6, for Lantau, are also just a few moments walk away. The next stop on the bus is the very centrally located Exchange Square bus station which is at ground level below the Exchange Square office towers which house the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. If you are not starting at the ferry pier then catching Bus 15 to The Peak at Exchange Square is probably the best.  You can reach Exchange square easily via taxi or MTR from anywhere in Hong Kong.

ODER rauf per Taxi: Do not take the tram. Just take a cab. It only costs about $8 US each way, and you won't waste precious hours standing in line. We landed up taking a cab to the top $250 but we were scammed! It really should only cost $75 if you get an honest cab driver. He found us debating about the 2 hour wait for the cable car to take you to the top. They also try and scam you on the way down telling you that it is a 3 hour wait for a cab, it took 30-40 minutes.

PEAK CIRCLE WALK: ca. 1 StundeMAP siehe Ausdruck

From MTR Central Station, Exit J2, walk to the lower Peak Tram terminus located on Garden Road for the scenic ride up to The Peak. Alternatively, you can take bus 15 from Exchange Square bus terminus, or minibus 1 from MTR Hong Kong Station public transport interchange. The Peak Circle Walk begins at Lugard Road near the Peak Tower. Built in 1913–14, this road is named after Hong Kong’s 14th governor, Sir Fredrick Lugard. The sections that are narrow, cliff-side paths are called ‘plank roads’. You’ll need to pull your camera out around 20 minutes into your stroll, when you arrive at the Lugard Road lookout and gasp at its spectacular panoramic view of Victoria Harbour. Lugard Road runs into Harlech Road, which will slowly take you back to the Peak Tower and to the end of your lap around The Peak. It takes about 15 minutes to traverse the entire tree-shaded path, or a bit longer if you stop to appreciate the waterfall falling below Mount Austin Playground. Watch out for those joggers rushing past; Harlech Road is one of their favourites. The walk will take you back to its starting point near the Peak Tower. From here you can catch the Peak Tram, bus 15 or minibus 1 back down to Central.

There is more than one way to circle a peak. Do this walk in reverse, starting around 90 minutes before sunset, and you’ll be looking at Hong Kong Island’s scenic south side in the glow of afternoon light. Stick around to experience views of one of the world’s most spectacular harbours when twilight gives way to night and the city becomes a galaxy of shimmering lights.

This walk (Circle Walk = Hong Kong trail) circles the Peak for excellent viewing of HK, Kowloon, Victoria Harbour and … Once you exit the Peak Tower keep right until you get to Lugard Road. From there you will pass the first bridge to be built over the city’s steep hills, … At the end of Lugard Road turn into Harlech Road, which will bring you back to your starting point (40 – 60 min):

SUNRISE HK: 6:50SUNSET HK: 18:25

Do come for the views, they are spectacular. If it isn't crazy busy and you feel like taking the tram, wait the average 25 minute slow day wait for the 8 minute ride to the top. If you just want to go up for the views, walk or drive up as your peak tram ticket does not include the roof top platform for seeing the incredible skyline, that's extra.

RAUF somit um ca. 4 Uhr, entweder per Bus oder by Tram oder TaxiDann Peak Circle Walk (ca. 1 Stunde)Dann Sky Terrasse for sunset, dann runter by tram

Wenn Lust und Laune noch ins Viertel Lan Kwai Fong – party traveller gegend mit vielen pubs und clubsLKF (what locals call Lan Kwai Fong) is a group of blocks that are walking only, full of great restaurants and bars with the best night life in Hong Kong. Some places are a bit touristy (Hard Rock) but overall, it is a great place to go out to dinner, have drinks with friends or party. There are great drink specials (10 shots for HKD 100) all along the street and during major holidays, festivals or on Fri/Sat nights, it is an incredibly busy place with a lively atmosphere. During some of the larger festivals, you will also see people dressed up and there is great people watching.

LADIES MARKET (und gleich daneben Fa Yuen Street – ähnlich)Its name "Nui Yan Kai" (Ladies Market) is taken from its reputation for selling bargain fashionable ladies clothing and also to distinguish it from “Mens Market”, Temple Street Night Market (see above), although this is nowadays something of a misnomer and the market sells a huge range of ladies, mens and childrens clothes, sports goods, electrical goods, toys and souvenirs. Any “designer labels” are certainly fake but there are bargains to be had and huge discounts can easily be negotiated from already low asking prices. This is a large and for much of the time, a very busy market and navigating through the crowds here can be exhausting. The section of Tung Choi Street where the market operates is pedestrianised and closed to vehicles between 4pm and midnight on Mondays to Saturdays and between 12 noon and 10pm on Sundays and public holidays. Sections of neighbouring Sai Yeung Choi Street, Nelson Street and Soy Street are pedestrianised from 4pm to 10pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 12 noon to 10pm on Sundays and public holidays.

OPENING HOURS - 12 noon to 11pm daily. Most stalls are open by 1pm. Closed on the first day of Chinese New Year.

GETTING THERE – MTR to either Prince Edward and take exit B2 or to Mong Kok and take any of exits B2, D2 or D3. Prince Edward MTR Station and Mong Kok MTR Stations are at the northern and southern ends respectively of the market.

TEMPLES:Eventuell Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple (eher Ja, wenn möglich)Just one stop from Diamond Hill (Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden), in station Wong Tai Sin (take exit B, you will see the signs for the complete name of Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple), you will find this beautiful small temple. Just the entrance is worth the visit with elegant Chinese zodiac statues. When we were there everything was decorated with red clothes. Up in the temple court, you will see the decorations of yellow and red lanterns, altars and more statues, and probably a lot of people praying and guessing its fortune (Kau Chim) on the fortune telling sticks; each number that falls represent an answer to a query which is interpreted by professional fortune tellers in a nearby alley. This temple is not included in the usual visits to HK, but being so close to Diamond Hill, do not miss it. It is a real Chinese Taoist experience.

Eventuell Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden (eher Nein, nur wenn Zeit)The garden is in the middle of town but it I still a nice place to relax and enjoy the peace. Well designed with a temple to visit north of the garden connected by a bridge that goes over the road. Close to a subway station and several restaurants.Located near MTR Diamond Hill, take exit C2 and follow the signs pointing Nan Liang Garden.

Eventuell Temple of the 10.000 buddhas (aber wohl zu weit weg): siehe auch ReiseführerIf you take the MTR it takes around 25 mintues, follow the signs to the Government building but go to the right of the building (do not walk past it) and the path is there, we went past the building and ended up in another temple and had to come back. Really amazing and I am surprised it is not more popular, there were about 8 of us visiting. There are a lot of steps but really worth going to visit.

GETTING THERE – MTR to either Jordan or Yau Ma Tei. From Jordan MTR Station take exit A and at the top of the steps at street level turn right along Jordan Road and Temple Street is the third street on the right. Ngong Ping: Stairs to Big Buddha – Walking with Buddha

There is no cost to climb up to and walk around the Big Buddha (250 steps). If you wanted to go inside the museum inside the Big Buddha then there is a cost. Nang Ping village is a quaint little place with souvenirs available and a cafe.

Personally, I enjoyed the whole experience. From the cable car ride up (about 20-25 mins), the walk through the small little town before reaching the walkway through the warrior statues, and even the 268 steps up to reach the Big Buddah. It was all worth it! We even went on a day when the weather wasn't so great, it was cold and foggy. So much so that even when we reached the Big Buddah we could barely see the face clearly. We would just wait to catch it at the right moment when the fog would get thinner and catch glimpses.

Things I recommend or noticed:-Go on a clear day if possible. The whole experience would have been different because if we went on a clear day we would have seen the statue sitting on the hill when riding up on the cable car. Since the Buddah is so large, on a clear day we would have seen the whole statue.-Surprisingly when we went, the Crystal Cabin line was longer than the regular cable car line. We only waited less

Page 28: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

than 10 minutes. -Know that the cable cars have vents. Since it was cold, it was also chilly in the cabin. I can't imagine how it would be if we went on a hot day.-Use the restroom in the little town before making your way up to the Big Buddah. The bathrooms are definitely cleaner/modern in the town. I didn't see any restrooms at the top of the Big Buddah, there was a sign that said restroom but we didn't find it. Maybe it's only available to those who pay for the lunch. There was a restroom closer to the Buddah (at the bottom, past the entrance of the Buddah) it was not the greatest! -Fyi the steps go straight up (with some landings to rest), they are steeper than normal, the staircases are a little tight (about 5 ft. across), and the steps are not that wide. I definitely had to take my time coming down because of the size of the steps. Just make sure you have on a comfortable pair of shoes.

AUCH MÖGLICH: STAR FERRY HARBOUR TOUR (siehe oben)

The most useful & convenient type of Hong Kong travel pass is the credit-card style Octopus card. The   "Octopus" is a rechargable and contactless 'smart card' used on most forms of public transport ( Bus, Minibus, Ferry, Peak Tram, Tram & MTR Trains), as well as settling payments at all major convenience stores, such as Seven Eleven, fast food restaurants, Starbucks, supermarkets, bakeries, self-service vendor machines and major photo service outlets. Octopus fares are sometimes between 5% and 10% cheaper than ordinary fares on most trips made on the MTR network, while reductions could apply for transits of specific bus services. Just touch your Octopus card over the Octopus reader and your payment will be deducted instantly. You can add value to the smart card at MTR stations and all retail outlets that accept Octopus payment. You can buy Octopus cards with different amounts of stored value (HK$) such as Adult: Deposit $50 + Stored Value $100 = Price HK$150. The deposit is refundable or you can retain the Octopus card as a souvenir or for use during your next visit. Octopus cards are good for three years after the date of purchase. When you arrive at the Hong Kong airport do NOT buy your Octopus card at one of the vending machines. If you have a foreign passport, it is better to purchase it at the special kiosk near the exit to the express train for several reasons:

The kiosk staff speaks English well.

The staff will let you know about any promotions that reduce the price of transportation from the airport into Hong Kong.

They sell so-called Airport Express Travel Passes that include a trip on the MTR from the airport to Hong Kong and a number of days of unlimited other travel on the MTR. This combo card is also a regular Octopus card so it can be charged with extra credit as explained above. When you depart Hong Kong, this kiosk can refund any remaining balance on your card, but so will a lot of MTR stations.

A new Octopus card includes a refundable HK$50 deposit. Any leftover money is also refunded when you return the card. Octopus card can be purchased at the Airport Express Customer Service Counter (Arrivals hall), as well as at the Customer Service Centers within the MTR/KCR stations.  All outlets of 7-Eleven & Circle K Convenience Stores also sell the card. The card can be reloaded at any MTR/KCR station, either by using the Add Value Machines or at the Customer Service Centers, located in the stations.

How to check your balance and recent transactions?Balance appears whenever you make a purchase. Users can also check their last 10 transactions at the following places:

At Octopus Enquiry Machines at MTR stations  By requesting a printout at an MTR Customer Service Centre and 7-Eleven or Circle-K outlet (a HK$3 fee will

be charged by these service providers.)  Using a PCCW eye device  Using an Octopus PC Reader How to reload Octopus Card?

Your Octopus can be reloaded up to HK$1,000 in total value at thousands of locations throughout Hong Kong by cash. You can reload at the following places:

Authorized Add Value Service Providers, such as convenience stores, supermarkets, fast-food chains.  Any Customer Service Centres of MTR, Airport Express Line and Light Rail. KMB Customer Service Centre at the Sha Tin Central Bus Terminus  New World First Ferry Octopus Service Centres at the piers on Cheung Chau, Mui Wo and Peng Chau and at

Central piers 5 and 6  New World First Bus Customer Service Centre at the Admiralty (East) Bus Terminus  Citybus Customer Service Centre at the Central Exchange Square Bus Terminus  You can also top up using Add Value Machines at MTR and selected Light Rail Stations.

Page 31: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

What's more, you can reload your Octopus by electronic fund transfer at selected ATMs of the AEON ATM network (applicable to AEON Credit Card holders only).

How to claim a refund from Octopus? For On-Loan Octopus (both Standard and Personalized), you can go to any MTR Customer Service Centre to apply for a refund of your remaining value. If the remaining value is less than HK$500, you will receive an on-the-spot refund of your HK$50 deposit (applicable to Standard On-Loan Octopus only) and the remaining value, if any. If you want to refund the remaining value in Sold Octopus, you need to call 2266 2222 for assistance, your Octopus will be checked at the office.

Question: How to use the Hong Kong Octopus Card?Unless you have more change than a church on Sunday, you shouldn’t even attempt to tackle Hong Kong’s myriad of transport without a Hong Kong Octopus Card. Pioneered in HK, and now mirrored in London and New York, the Hong Kong Octopus card is a stored value card, which will win you access to all of Hong Kong’s public transport. Local ferries, trams, subway, buses and minibuses all accept the cards, you can even, with the MTR regional rail, travel to China with an Octopus. The card is ubiquitous around Hong Kong, with almost all residents using it and it’s an excellent way to save time.Answer:

A first card costs HK$150, which is inclusive of a HK$50 refundable deposit and HK$100 credit, in addition, any cash left on the card at the end of your stay will be returned. You can pick up a card at MTR subway stations and at the Airport Express Counter, which also has cards including Airport Express rides.

The card couldn’t be simpler to use, as you walk on and off transport, aside from trams (where it is only off), you simply wave the card in front of the yellow Octopus readers and the machine will deduct the correct amount. You are allowed to go overdrawn upto HK$35 and for one ride only, however the card must be in credit and the deduction will be billed the next time you top up. To check how much credit you have remaining, use the signed machines inside MTR stations, where you can also recharge with cash or credit card.

The “standard on-loan” stored-value Octopus card, which costs HK$150 and allows unlimited rides on the subway, buses, ferries, tram, Peak Tram and Airport Express. It can also be used to buy items at many shops like 7-11, Circle K, grocery stores, vending machines, movie theatres, McDonalds, etc. It has a refundable deposit of HK$43, and has an initial value of HK$100. Once that is exhausted, you simply top it up with cash at a 7-11, Circle K, grocery store and lots of other places (including MTR stations).

Benefits of using Octopus:- There is no need to spend time buying a single journey ticket at Ticket Issuing Machines, or counting the exact amount of coins on buses and trams.- The MTR fares using Octopus are usually cheaper than single journey tickets.- Apart from collecting fares on public transport, it can be used as a payment method in retail and fastfood outlets, car parks and leisure facilities.- Passengers of Cityflyer Routes traveling to/from the airport can enjoy a 50% discount on the return journey on the same day. To see details, click here.- Airport Express (AE) passengers can enjoy a free return journey on the same day. To see details, click here.- Also, AE passengers can enjoy free MTR connections to/from the Airport Express stations. To see details, click here.

On-Loan Octopus Card

The On-Loan Octopus card is a rechargeable stored value card and is perfect for tourists. Available types: Adult, Child, Elder and Personalised. To purchase an On-Loan card, a passport or any other identification is not required, except Personalised. The card comes with a refundable deposit of HK$50, which will be returned to you together with the remaining value when you return it.

Page 32: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

Type Price

Adult HK$150 = Deposit $50 + Initial stored value $100

Child (3-11) HK$70 = Deposit $50 + Initial stored value $20

Elder HK$70 = Deposit $50 + Initial stored value $20

Where To Buy

The On-Loan Octopus card can be purchased at the following places:- Any Airport Express Customer Service Centre.- Any MTR Customer Service Centre (except Racecourse station).- Also, it can be purchased at other Customer Service Centres of public transportation companies.

The much-advertised Airport Express Tourist Octopus card is not really worth the microchip embedded into it. The card costs $220 (including $50 deposit) and allows one trip on the Airport Express and three days’ unlimited travel on the MTR (except Airport Express, Light Rail, MTR Bus, East Rail Line First Class, Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations). Value can be added to the ticket for travel on other major means of transport. For $300 you get two trips on the Airport Express and the same benefits. At the end of your trip you can claim your deposit back (plus any part of the ‘remaining value’ added still on the card). For shorter stays there’s the Tourist MTR 1-Day Pass ($55), valid on the MTR for 24 hours.

This travel pass can also be "converted" into an Octopus card,so that you can use it on other public transport(+ retail) besides limited to MTR initially,by doing a reload(min.HKD50).

Einreise Thailand – siehe bereits oben (arrival card, etc.)

Chiang Mai Airport is located a short distance from the city center and songteaw and tuk-tuks are readily available to provide taxi services outside the terminal building. Expect to pay 120 baht for a taxi to most destinations in the city, while the return trip to the airport costs about 50 baht. Many hotels will arrange free transfer to and from the airport. Check with your hotel to see if they provide this a service.

*The airport taxi counter is where you want to be to have a fixed cheaper fare. For airport taxi: they are silver cabs basically all 4 seater cabs, you have to go to the counter and have your ticket issued at a fixed rate, depending on your destination. It is w-a-y cheaper inside at the counter.

Page 33: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

An often asked question, "how to get from the airport to the hotel?" When you arrive at the airport and exit immigration you will enter an arrival hall. This is immediately before you exit the terminal building. For those with pre-arranged transfers this is where you will find your pick up person. (You will also see lots of touts who will approach you). To get a cab from the airport you need to go to the taxi coupon booth.  Once you have collected your checked luggage, go to a taxi counter (you can't miss them). Tell them where you are going and pay the flat fee of 120฿ (for city area locations) AT the counter. They will give you a two part receipt and tell you where to exit to find your driver. As you walk out of the exit a driver will claim you and take his (yellow carbon copy) half of the receipt (you will keep your original part).

The Chiang Mai airport has a licensed taxi service to get you from the airport to your hotel. The fixed price to take you to any city hotel is 150 Baht (4.67 USD). Turn left as you exit (domestic) baggage claim and you'll see the taxi counter. There is no need to book in advance.

There are two taxi desks right at baggage claim where you prepay 120 baht for a taxi from the airport into central Chiang Mai. If you wait until you are outside the terminal to get a taxi they'll charge you 200 baht. The drive only takes 10-15 minutes depending where in the city you are staying

Wat Chedi Luang:

How to get to the Wat Chedi Luang

The Wat Chedi Luang is located close to the centre of the old walled part of Chiang Mai. You will find it about half way Ratchadamnoen road that crosses the old city from East to West. The main entrance is opposite Phra Pok Klao road, just South of Ratchadamnoen road.

Entrance fee & opening hours

The temple grounds are open daily from 6 am until 6 pm. Admission is free.

went twice to Wat Chedi Luang; once in the afternoon and another in early evening. A lot of people visit it in the afternoon and the sun can really be scorching but i got to see monks and novices on the temple grounds. It was a really good experience. The temple, however, is spectacular in the early evening; when the sun's set and the Temple gently lights up against the dark sky. Make sure you cover your knees and shoulders to go inside. The real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive.

Wat Phra Singh: 06:00 – 17:00

Page 34: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

If you're going to visit Wat Phra Singh then go early or very late in the evening as it gets very, very busy. It is the major teaching Wat in Chiang Mai so you'll see monks of all ages around the place.

It is very beautiful at night with candles lit and the monks chanting. Very special indeed. And please, please, PLEASE dress appropriately! This is a Buddhist temple, not a nightclub, so show some respect!!!!

EINTRITT für Touristen: BAHT 20-30 p.p.

WAT PHAN TAO:

How to get to the Wat Phan Tao

The Wat Phan Tao is located close to the center of the old walled part of Chiang Mai just South of Ratchadamnoen road. The main entrance is on Phra Pok Klao road that runs North to South through the old city. The temple is located directly next to the better known Wat Chedi Luang. You can get there by tuk-tuk (agree on the price before leaving) or by rented bicycle.

Entrance fee & opening hours

The temple grounds are open from 6 am until 5 pm. Admission is free.

Here you will feel the real spirit of a praying site. Small and charming. Beautiful colors. Far from plastic. It's with in the central part of the town in your walking track and right by the night bazaar bringing the street alive in the evening.

Wat Pan Tao is located in the old quarter of Chiang Mai, which is a 1km squared area surrounded by a moat. There are around 36 temples in this area alone. The best way to explore them is by foot and I would recommend seeing this temple as a part of a walking tour of the temples going Wat Phra Singh > Wat Chedi Luang > Wat Phan Tao. If you visit Chiang Mai, make sure you're there on a Sunday night. The Sunday walking market was the highlight of our short stay in Chiang Mai's city centre. There is plenty of local wares to look at and buy. The smell of street food floats in the air. You can stop for a foot massage if the crowds become a bit too much for you. Plenty of buskers ensure there is music wherever you go. A must see and do.

It  is the beginning to a great and wonderful day. Doi  Suthep temple is located on the peak of the Doi  Suthep Mountain and is the most famous landmark in Chiang Mai.  They say you have not truly been to Chiang Mai if you have not visited this temple!  At the top of the temple you can view the pagoda shining with real gold, and a viewing platform offers panoramic views of the whole Chiang Mai City – take in the wonderful countryside landscape while the sun rises behind the city and mountains.  The morning sky and view could be immortalised in a beautiful painting !   Morning life at the temple is unforgettable -the sound of temple bells, monks chanting and the fascinating view of Chiang Mai will fill your heart.  Don’t leave Chiang Mai without this impression. After sunrise. we can  drop by at the hidden jungle temple to enjoy the  serinity  surounding and   peace !

Check Inn Hotel Baan Suwantawe (Pool, kein Frühstück) + Email an Asia Web direct with room nr.Spazierung Phuket Old Town:Vor allem in die Soi Romanee – sehr schön (nur ca. 450 min, bzw. 5 Minuten)

Soi Romanee (Soi Rommanee) is located in the heart of Phuket Old Town. A walk along the soi, the street that connects Thalang Road with Dibuk Road, evokes Phuket’s interesting history. Like many streets in Phuket’s old quarter, there are lots of attractive Sino-Portuguese style shop-houses.

Some of the vintage buildings have been converted into bars, guesthouses and cafés. Here you can enjoy an easy-going night out. Bring along your camera!

Soi Romanee Highlights

This area is truly a hidden gem – full of colourful renovated buildings. And, unlike in most places in Thailand, there are no funny looking electric or telephone cables hanging here and there anymore. Everything has been nicely put away underground. Some local families have been living along this street for generations. Most of them have Chinese backgrounds hence many houses have cute little red Chinese shrines set high up on the outside walls to make it easy for them to pray to the deities before entering or leaving the house. An old accommodation called the Wiboonsinn Hotel that has been there for decades is still going strong even though there have been some better looking and more comfortable budget guesthouses opening up over the years.

The core of the Old Town essentially is made up of five roads and several 'sois' (small streets), these are Rasada Rd, Phang Nga Rd, Thalang Rd, Dibuk Rd, and Krabi Rd. This quarter teems with history and after years of neglect is currently being renovated.

PHI PHI ISLAND:

Phi Phi Viewpoint

Everything you need to know about Phi Phi Viewpoint

Phi Phi viewpoint is one of the highpoints (in more ways than one) of a visit to Phi Phi Don. From the Reggae Bar, head towards Loh Dalum Bay and you'll see signs for the viewpoint. Don't forget to buy water at the bottom!

The Journey Up

The viewpoint is elevated to 186m, which isn't really that high. If you're feeling energetic, it's a brisk 20 minute walk and if not you can have a leisurely 30 minute stroll to the top. The journey up isn't difficult at all, the path is well trodden and paved most of the way. There's plenty of places to rest if need be.

Page 43: Mi, 19 · Web viewThe real draw though is the huge brick chedi situated behind the prayer hall. It really is massive and very impressive. It really is massive and very impressive

The Top

When you arrive at the top you'll be pleased to find cold drinks, ice creams and other snacks on sale. The hammocks will be extremely welcome for some and the flat rocks make comfortable seats. The view is, of course, magnificent. You can see Phi Phi Leh and all of both Tonsai Village and Loh Dalum bays. From here you will be able to appreciate the 'dumbbell' shape of the island and marvel at the island's beauty. The best time to come from a photography point of view is before 10am as the sun will be behind you which brings out the colour of the sea. If there's a light shower while you're at the top you might be lucky enough to see a rainbow over Tonsai Village. For those who want to go further there are three paths leading to bays on the other side. The middle path takes you to Rantee Beach, about a 20-minute walk, and the paths to the left and right lead to Pak Nam Beach and Ao Toh Koh respectively, both some 45 minutes away. These are not nature trails as such; just tracks used by locals to save on the cost of a longtail to and from Ton Sai. There are some tricky bits, but nothing that requires a mountaineering diploma.

Phi Phi Leh is an uninhabited island that lies 1.5km off the southernmost tip of Phi Phi Don. Stunning vertical cliffs capped with green foliage give way to small sandy beaches and tropical coral seas. Most visitors find their way around Phi Phi Leh on an organised Phi Phi boat tour. However you can rent a longtail boat for your own customized trip. Located on the south side of the island the only activity here is snorkeling which is excellent for discovering beautiful coral and tropical fish. Boats anchor in the shallow waters, swimmers feed fish and snorkel. You can get to Maya Bay from here at low tide via a small hole through a cliff about one metre high and sometimes when the sea is rough from May to October this is the only way to get into Maya Bay. Maya Bay is a stunningly beautiful bay that's sheltered by 100-metre high cliffs on three sides. Inside the bay there are several beaches, most are small and some only exist at low tide. The main one is around 200 metres long with silky soft white sand, underwater colourful coral and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water; the whole bay is one big reef. Maya Bay has become the main tourist attraction of Phi Phi since The Beach was filmed here in 1999. It was always very popular before the film but now people around the world who haven't even heard of Phi Phi have certainly heard of Maya Bay. The best time to visit Maya Bay is between November and April during the high season when seas are calm and access to the bay is easy. Rough seas from May to October may hinder access but rarely deny entry. The bad news; as it's so beautiful and so well known many boats are required to ferry all the visitors in and out. On any given day at any time there will be 30 + speedboats and longtail boats on the beach, with large ferry boats carrying hundreds of snorkelers and sightseers moored in deeper water. Beautiful it is, secluded it isn't – thousands of people visit each day. Try to visit early in the morning

or after 17:00 and you'll avoid the crowds. Please note that if you enter the bay on your own there is a National Park entry fee of 200 baht. This cost is included in the price of a tour.

The Beach

The Beach by Alex Garland is about young travellers who drop out of society and go to live in a hidden lagoon in Southern Thailand. Fox bought the rights to the book, signed up Leonardo DiCaprio to play the lead role and then searched for a location. Maya Bay was perfect. Fox decided that the perfect beach needed some palm trees and less vegetation so they rearranged the beach to fit a Hollywood stereotype. Beforehand, environmentalists said removing vegetation would increase the risk of sand erosion and that the delicate natural ecosystem may not ever recover. The vegetation was replanted after filming had finished and additional bamboo fences were put in place to support the dunes. The following year during high tides and a strong storm the dune collapsed, the sand flowed down the beach and killed coral in the sea below. Fox went to great lengths to leave Maya Bay as they found it however the debate still goes on whether the damage was due to the rearranging or not, many say that the replanted vegetation had not yet 'taken'. Filming commenced in 1999 and 'The Beach' was one of the most eagerly anticipated films of 2000. The film is cited by many tourists as the inspiration for their trip to Thailand.

WAT PHO: Reclining buddha! This was definitely my favourite temple experience in Bangkok. The dress code was slightly more relaxed, and the staff in general were more relaxed. There were very few people here compared to the Palace. This place was pleasant to visit, offered free water, unobstructed photos of the beautiful Buddha, and a massage round the back. I spent ages wondering around, feeling peaceful.Plenty of shade in the hot sun. Not only is the reclining Buddha beautiful, the temple building is amazing too. The best picture is from the feet looking up towards the head. A must see.OPENING TIMES: 8-17 (gilt auch für Massage)

THA THIEN FERRY PIER: zum WAT ARUN hinüberschippern (THB 3,- p.p.)

WAT ARUN: THB 50,- p.p.

Essensmöglichkeit: THE DECK (lunch von 11:00 bis 15:00)It is a bit hard to find, down a small alley across the far end of the Reclining Buddha Temple (Wat Pho I think) but there are small signs for Arun Residence, which also looks like a nice place to stayLittle piece of advice, get there early for lunch as they are running out of many items after 1.00 PM.

Bangkok Flower Market

Pak Klong Talad Bangkok (+nearby Yot Phimal Market)

Bangkok Flower Market (Pak Klong Talad) is the biggest wholesale and retail fresh flower market in Bangkok. The market has all kinds of popular flowers and flora-related items, including roses, forget me nots, orchids, lilies and more. Most of them sold in packs of 50 or 100 flowers in each, and prices are amazingly cheap. Part of the Old City, Bangkok Flower market is located on Chak Phet Road near Saphan Phut or the Memorial Bridge. Shops and vendors are housed inside two to three-storey shop-houses on both sides of the main road. The market lies just south of Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) and has access to a river pier, so it makes for a great one-day trip when combined with other historical attractions in the Old City.
