CLMH lessons learned-IAG, learning-support and teachers
1. Welcome How was your experience of the CLMH project?Thank you for being part of the DfE community learning mental health (CLMH) research project. This project has taken staff and learners on some exciting journeys. We know it's been tough at times, but we hope you enjoyed it. We could not have done it without you.
If you were involved in any of the following: Careers/information, advice and guidance
(IAG) Learning support Teaching
as paid and unpaid, qualified and unqualified staff we invite you to complete this anonymous survey. We will use it to make recommendations about future professional and volunteer training/continuous professional development (CPD) for community learning.
It will take you about 15 minutes. We ask about your experiences of the project, about any training/ continuous professional development you had, the wellbeing in your organisation and your own wellbeing, but mostly we ask you what ideas you have for how to improve things.
The questions are in short pages so it's easier to complete on a mobile device. Most questions are multiple choice. Options are in chronological or A-Z order, to show we intend no hierarchy (i.e. the ones at the top are no more or less important than those in the middle or bottom of a list).
Text box responses will take you a little longer, but they are probably the most important. This is because we ask you to tell us about your experience, what you think about something and what you recommend. Don't worry if there's not enough space in a box for everything you want to say or share with us. You can add extra comments and upload up to 5 files at the end of the survey.
We want to know what you really think, so we don't ask for your name or email address. We only ask for anonymised information.
Your responses are confidential. As soon as you click 'save and continue' or 'finish' they are encrypted and saved to the secure cloud, on servers in the UK. We ask you which project you were involved in but if you don't want to tell us, there's a 'prefer not to say' option. We will never report the findings in a way that identifies you.
This survey will close at midnight on Friday 8th September 2017, we look forward to learning from your response.
With thanks in advanceCatina BarrettDepartment for [email protected] | [email protected]
Tech tips:
Bold black text is used for most questions and instructions to maximise accessibility. Red text is used for emphasis to draw your attention to what a question is asking you to focus on. Blue text creeps in occasionally (e.g. for bullets) because that's the default colour for the template we have used so we cannot change them to black as we would wish to do.
We know you are busy and time is short. If you need to stop part-way through the survey, use 'save and continue' at the bottom of the page. SmartSurvey (not us) will ask for your email and then send you an automated email reminding you to please finish the survey
If you want to show us something or share an example, remember you can include URLs in text box responses and we've included space to add any extra comments and upload up to 5 files at the end of the survey
Never use the back arrow on your browser to go back or forwards in the survey. Use the 'Next' and 'Previous' options at the bottom of the survey page only.
If you accidentally click the back arrow on your browser or your Wi-Fi connection drops, you may think you have lost your responses. Don't worry. You haven't. Any answers you have given will be saved. All you need to do is select the refresh
icon in your browser's URL bar. Then (depending on which browser you use) select 'yes' or 'send' when asked if you want to 'send' the form
again (it will look something like the image below):
Stuck? Wait for the automated email reminding you to finish the survey or feel free to call or text me (Catina) on 07920493620 and I'll do my best to solve any problems. You won't need to give me your name. Simply tell me you are trying to complete the CLMH lessons learned from educators' survey.

18. Thinking about your training as part of the CLMH project In phase-1, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) awarded providers up to 50% of their funding to train their staff to deliver the project. As part of the evaluation, organisations told us what training they provided to staff to skill them up for various roles in the project. Now we'd like to get your perspective on that training.
Did you attend, or seek out for yourself, any training/CPD opportunities to support your role in the CLMH project? Note: These questions are about the training professional development that was organised for you locally. They are NOT about the training that was organised nationally for project leads and managers by the national team. *
No
Yes
19. Your training and co-production One of the ways we applied the disability rights equality principle of ‘nothing about us without us’ in the CLMH research project was by making sure all the training and support the national team gave project leads and managers was co-produced with people who have lived experience (either themselves or as carers/close family members or friends) of mild to moderate mental health problems. In their bids to be part of this work all projects were required to adopt this principle of co-production in all the training/professional development they offered their CLMH project team, not only training about mental health.
This is what we mean by co-production: "Co-production is not just a word, it is not just a concept, it is a meeting of minds coming together to find shared solutions. In practice, co-production in this research meant involving people with mild to moderate mental health problems who had also been involved in further education as colleagues or learners, or researchers, being consulted, included and working together from the start to the end of the project. Co-production in CLMH worked best when learners and colleagues with mild to moderate mental health problems developed ideas and ways of working in equal partnership, were valued by the organisation as equals, shared power and influenced decisions." Adapted from The TLAP National Co-Production Advisory Group: http://bit.ly/2ftpOpG
20. Tell us more about this training/CPD It might seem like we are asking a lot of you in these next few questions, and you'd be right. That's because it's not often we get a chance to learn from so many community learning educators - all working on the same thing at the same time for more than 2 years - where workforce development and wellbeing has played such a large and important part in the work. So, we want to learn from your experiences and thinking in order to find out what training/CPD staff need and how much of it to inform policy and commissioning.

52. What next?Next steps after July 2017
July-September 2017: DfE will collect additional information, via interviews and surveys like this, from staff who have been involved in the project. This is to ensure we gather as much learning as possible from all the time and effort people have given this project and for the investment of public funding to make sure that any changes that result are improvements
August - November 2017: Ipsos MORI (the external evaluator) will analyse the data and produce a draft report. We will hold a meeting with project leads during November to discuss the findings
December 2017: Ipsos MORI will send the draft report for academic peer review
January 2018: we will know what the findings are from the research and DfE will publish them
February - March 2018: Dissemination of the findings and outputs and resources from the project.
We will keep your organisation informed, send the findings to it, and invite it to be part of national dissemination activities.
After you click 'finish' for this survey you'll be taken a completely separate CLMH dissemination mailing survey. If you'd like us to keep you informed directly too, by telling you about the findings, final report, dissemination activities and any resources, please register your contact details. If you are not interested, simply close your browser tab/window.
