Iron Anodes
Marine Growth Prevention Systems (MGPS) are used to combatthe
harmful effects of macro fouling in seawater circuits. The
fouling problem arises when barnacles, mussels and other
lowerforms of marine life as larvae enter pipewor! systems and
settle
on the internal surface of pipes where they rapidly grow
andmultiply. "n the most e#treme cases, complete seawater lines
canbecome bloc!ed, affecting the safety and operational capability
ofthe ship. "n other instances, the gradual restriction in the flow
ofseawater through cooling systems can impair engine
efficiency,
leading to increased fuel usage.
e anti fouling system is based on the electrolytic principled
consists of copper, aluminum and ferrous anodes that fed with an
impressed electrical current from a control
nel. The anodes are usually mounted in pairs in the ship$sa
chest or strainer where they are in direct contact with
