BIKE-S is the new cycle storage module system from metroSTOR, bringing class leading security, ease of use and durability to our street scene. In many urban areas, available sites for increased cycle storage facilities are limited to on-street car parking spaces and BIKE-S has been designed for this application from the outset with our ‘Street’ configuration. BIKE-S in ‘Walk-In’ configuration occupies the same space efficient footprint but provides shelter for users while preparing to leave or return their bikes where the maximum permissible height for a structure on the street is not an issue.

For the cyclist, BIKE-S is developed to achieve Secured by Design accreditation, for maximum confidence that your bike is stored safe from harm. The unique BIKErail feature enables each bike to be rolled into the store using an individual stepped track to avoid any clashes while the integral locking point is located at the front of the store so that securing bike is as easy as possible. Personal security when using the store is a vital consideration and BIKE-S cladding panels are manufactured from high-strength steel with a laser cut design enabling clear vision through the unit from all angles.

For the authority, BIKE-S is a modular unit that can be installed quickly swiftly with a minimal foundation requirement, enabling cost-effective relocation if storage requirements change in the future. Manufactured from components exhaustively tested in tough urban environments, BIKE-S is a highly durable product with ease of servicing and replacement of any damaged parts integral to the design. LED lighting can be specified, with solar power as can a sedum green roof while opportunities for bespoke graphics are extensive.

metroSTOR BIKE-S Street is an all-steel manufacture for maximum durability, featuring laser cut cladding panels enabling visibility into the store from all angles. As an option at extra cost, alternative cladding types and laser cut design styles can be introduced from the wider metroSTOR product range dependant on application and specification required. The front corners of BIKE-S incorporate an infill panel that can be customised with signage, branding or logos. To help enhance biodiversity in urban areas, BIKE-S Street units are available with a lightweight sedum green roof.

Cycle Storage Hardware

BIKE-S cycle storage modules are fitted with metroSTOR BIKErail as standard, a purpose-designed storage system with full-length wheel track, which makes it easy for users to put their bicycle inside the store, terminates with a front wheel holder to keep the bicycle in an upright position. Parking bays are staggered in height for space efficiency. A ground anchor type locking point is included at the front end of the store to enable fast and convenient attachment of locking hardware to the rear wheel of the bicycle.

Security

From the initial brief, BIKE-S Street cycle storage modules have been developed to be highly secure and achieve Secured by Design accreditation. Cladding panels are manufactured from heavy gauge steel in a rear-fixed, interlocking pattern that inhibits removal from outside the store. The access doors are locked using a Kitemarked 3-Star Eurocylinder and include integrated anti-drill plates to repel unlawful attempts to gain entry. Unit ground fixings are supplied with shear nuts which discourage removal of the unit.

metroSTOR BIKE-S Street units are available in two configurations – BIKE-S Street 6 and BIKE-S Street 12 which have capacity for 6 and 12 bicycles respectively. A unit height of 1.563m helps keep clear sightlines in urban areas, while a depth of 2.002m enables positioning within standard car parking bays. BIKE-S Street 6, with a width of 2.409m, takes half of a standard parking space or enables two stores to be positioned in a space with access from each end. BIKE-S Street 12 is 4.818m in length and occupies a whole parking space with access from the side – ideal for roadside location.

Installation

BIKE-S Street is delivered as a flat packed unit with adjustable feet enabling units to be installed on ground that is not completely level. With minimal groundworks required, stores can easily be relocated as requirements evolve in the future. The cycle storage hardware is completely integrated with the frame of the unit, meaning no additional fixings are required.

Maintenance

BIKE-S cycle storage modules are extremely robust, but if any component does happen to fail due to wear and tear, vandalism or misuse it can simply be reordered from our aftercare team and replaced by maintenance staff with basic practical skill and simple hand tools. BIKE-S units are designed for minimal ongoing maintenance and require no more than periodic cleaning to remove any build-up of dirt and pollutants, and light lubrication of moving parts.
