METROPOLITAN COLLEGE

The growth of Metrocoll in the last few months has been phenomenal, and the consequent acquisition of a two storey building at Anyaah/Awoshie to house the college will ensure that our students have a spacious and versatile learning environment.

The college building is home to a new library and learning resource centre, an internet cafe which boosts the college internet access, a restaurant, many airy classrooms and, significantly, and the language school will allow Metrocoll to recruit students from countries whose citizens are not Anglophone, by providing language training that can either be taken in advance of a degree programme or simultaneously.

Metropolitan College is now able to offer its students an authentic inner-city 'on-campus' experience.

The Courses

All courses are structured to follow the requirements of the relevant examination authorities and lead to qualifications and/degrees awarded by professional bodies or Ghanaian/British Universities, respectively. Each course has been carefully selected for its relevance to commerce and industry and for its international recognition as evidence of professional competence.

The growth of the Metrocoll has been phenomenal, and the consequent acquisition of a two storey building at Awoshie a suburb of Accra, ensures that our students have a spacious and versatile learning environment.

The Student Facilities

The College now has twenty-one classrooms complete with whiteboards and digital projectors, a computer room equipped with the latest flat-screen technology, and a small but well-stuffed library. We hope to employ a full time librarian, and acquire a language lab and computer terminals to help electronic learning. Metrocoll’s internet cafe, and restaurant and, on the

Page 3: Metropolitan College o.k

ground floor, a student services and resource centre with private-study facilities and student common room, will greatly support our students to acquire a their education in a friendly environment..

The Students

Metropolitan College hopes within the first four months of its inception to have a student population of over 200, mostly aged between 18 and 25, from all over Ghana. Metrocoll hopes in the very near future, to be a truly international higher educational institution with students from all parts of Africa, and even beyond.

The Teaching

Students entering the College enjoy every practical incentive to succeed. Metrocoll is staffed by tutors of the highest quality and all students have access to an impressive range of specialist teaching aids including audio-visual equipment and modern computer facilities. Lecturers are chosen not just for their technical skills but also for their ability to impart their knowledge to others. They are entertaining and friendly, and always do their best to ensure that the course is as enjoyable as possible. In such a progressive environment students discover a new interest in learning, and new outlets for their natural potential.

Student Facilities

The College has airy classrooms complete with whiteboards and digital projectors (which are linked to the College computer network), a computer laboratory equipped with the latest flat-screen technology, an extensive library with a full time librarian, language lab and computer terminals for electronic learning, an internet cafe, a restaurant and a student services and resource centre with private-study facilities and student common room.

The Students

With over 200 new students each year, mostly aged between 18 and 25, from all over the country, and a few from francophone Africa, Metropolitan College is growing into an international institution.

Students’ life

Happiness is the key to success and the Metrocoll welfare team will work hard to ensure that students are comfortably accommodated and well looked after.

For many of our students their journey to Accra to study at Metropolitan College may be their first time away from home and, for most, represents a major change of lifestyle. It is vitally

Page 4: Metropolitan College o.k

important therefore, that Metrocoll provides expert help and guidance regarding accommodation and welfare.

Even before our foreign students board their flights to Ghana, our Student Services team would be working hard on their behalf to ensure that all goes well on their arrival in Ghana and that, if requested, a driver is waiting to take them to their accommodation from the airport.

Then, once they commence their studies, members of the Student Services team would be available to help the new students overcome any difficulties they may face in the first few weeks.

The team is well aware that students' academic success at the Metrocoll will often depend on their comfort in their surroundings and their ability to overcome any anxiety caused by homesickness, and consequently great emphasis is placed on ensuring that students are happy with their living accommodation.

Campus Life

The college experience is more than just getting a degree. At Metrocoll, we're concerned with the overall physical, emotional and spiritual growth of our students.

Campus Life offers a full range of growth opportunities outside of the classroom, from entertainment, arts and sports to student government, clubs, and organizations. CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION

The workforce and economic development landscape of Ghana has changed dramatically the search for academic and professional education in Ghana’s fifty-four-year history. The recent discovery exploration of oil has added an even more challenges in the Ghanaian educational environment. There is widespread agreement that advances in technology and the impact of a global economy have contributed to changes in the structure of 21st Century work being experienced by employers and employees. Today, as employers seek to upgrade employees’ skills, in an attempt to remain economically competitive, and entrants seek to find a road to rewarding careers, Metropolitan College (Metrocoll) finds itself needing to rethink its career and technical education programs and services.

To address this imperative, Metrocoll announces new strategic focus for career and technical education with the commencement of operation in September, 2011. This will begin with the hiring of a Dean of Workforce Development and Corporate Relations and over the next 5 years (2011 – 2016) the Office of Workforce Development and Corporate Relations will pursue the college’s mission statement.
