Fire Safety & Tunnel Ventilation Specialist

• More than 25 years experiences in the area of fire research and application in buildings.• Thereafter. He gained his Master in Engineering Science, also from Monash University in the area of fire risk and subsequently completed a PhD on the characterization of fire behaviour and occupant movement in buildings for assessing fire and life safety in buildings. • Leong’s early years was with BHP Research where he spent about 12 years assisting with the development of engineering design solutions for fire resistance of structures and modelling using complex fire and risk assessment methodologies for determining fire safety levels in buildings. • He was seconded to Victoria University on numerous occasions where he became significantly involved in the development of fire risk models. • In the last ten years, Leong’s interest on fire safety has extended to road & rail tunnels and underground stations. • He has written a number of papers on this topic, with a special focus on tunnel fire risk. • He is currently a member of a number of committees in fire safety, including FP-023 Standards Australia, Tunnel fire safety committee. • Leong is also a registered Fire Safety Engineer (FSE) with FSSD.
