EEN NIEuw BEGRIP

In de jaren ’60 ondergingen wereldwijd heel wat

bedrijven een ware facelift met de introductie van de

landschapskantoren. Later kwamen de zogenaamde

combikantoren en hun aaneenschakeling van ruimten

voor individuele medewerkers en voor kleine groepjes.

Beide vertonen voor- en nadelen: een cellenkantoor

bevordert de concentratie, maar remt de communicatie

en de kennisdeling. Een landschap bevordert wel

onderling contact, maar bemoeilijkt de concentratie en

bijgevolg de productiviteit. Met unchained working®

combineert Mewaf de voordelen van beide systemen.

De filosofie achter unchained working® is enerzijds

gegroeid uit de huidige technologische evolutie.

Omvangrijke pc’s werden ingeruild voor steeds

compactere laptops, mobiel telefoneren wordt de regel,

papieren dossiers worden digitaal opgeslagen… Heel

wat ontwikkelingen die steeds minder verenigbaar zijn

Anderzijds groeide unchained working® uit het besef dat

wordt. Toch heeft elke werknemer een eigen werkplek

et ensuite avec les bureaux-combis et leur succession

groupes. Ces deux systèmes présentent des avantages

et des inconvénients : le bureau-cellule favorise la

concentration mais entrave la communication et le

partage des connaissances. Le bureau paysager

favorise les contacts mais est néfaste à la concentration

et, donc, à la productivité. unchained working® de

Mewaf combine les avantages de ces deux systèmes.

La philosophie à l’origine de l’unchained working

découle en partie de l’évolution technologique actuelle.

Les PC encombrants ont cédé la place à des ordinateurs

portables de plus en plus compacts, le téléphone

portable a détrôné le téléphone fixe, les dossiers papiers

sont désormais archivés sous forme numérique… Autant

d’évolutions de moins en moins compatibles avec notre

environnement de travail rigide actuel.

Par ailleurs, l’unchained working® est né de la

constatation que plus de �0% des postes de travail

ne sont pas utilisés de façon optimale. Chaque

collaborateur possède pourtant son propre poste

de travail et ses propres infrastructures, aux frais de

A NEw CONCEPT

In the 60s, companies all over the world underwent

a veritable face lift with the introduction of the open-

plan office. Later came the so-called combi-offices:

a succession of rooms for individual workers and for

small groups. Both systems had their pros and cons:

a cellular office is good for concentration, but gets in

the way of communication and knowledge-sharing. An

open-plan design encourages mutual contact, but is

problematic for concentration and hence productivity.

with unchained working®, Mewaf combines the benefits

of both systems.

The philosophy behind unchained working® has grown

out of recent technical developments. Cumbersome PCs

have been exchanged for ever more compact laptops,

mobile phone use has become the rule, paper files are

stored digitally… in short, there are many developments

which are increasingly incompatible with our present,

inflexible working environment.

Secondly, unchained working® has emerged from the

realisation that over �0% of workstations are not used

optimally. Each worker has his or her own workstation

and facilities, which cost the business money. In the

innovative unchained working® system, workstations

are adapted to the tasks that are performed at them.

There’s the Cockpit if you need to concentrate, the Team

Lounge for group activity, the Brainstorming Room for

unbounded creativity and the Bench for plug & work, the

Niche for call center work. This allows people to make

more efficient use of the workstation, and up to �0% of

the floorspace can be saved.

Mewaf office facilities have a timeless ambience of high-

class design and are made from environmentally friendly,

quality materials. Acoustics, ergonomics, integrated

electrical and data cabling – everything is geared

towards maximum convenience. Folders and documents

are kept in the common Metro cabinet, which also has

an acoustic function. Personal belongings are stored in

specially provided locker walls near the entrance.

De zoektocht naar een universele oplossing (one-size-

fits-all) levert in feite niets op voor de productiviteit:

doeltreffendheid en efficiëntie op het werk hadden

er nauwelijks baat bij. Metrix is een écht origineel

concept van de ‘NIEuwE GENERATIE’. Het is een

TOTAALCONCEPT, waarin rekening wordt gehouden

met de organisatie, de werknemers én de taken die met

of zonder computer uitgevoerd moeten worden. Door zijn

fundamentele modulariteit is Metrix uitermate flexibel.

Het systeem kan zich dan ook uitstekend aanpassen

aan wat de klant nodig heeft; men kan immers de best

mogelijke opstelling kiezen naargelang van de behoeften

van de klant en de gebruikers. Metrix is als concept

eigenlijk een ‘gereedschapskist met goed gereedschap’.

Het projectbeheer kan de vereisten stuk voor stuk

invullen (puzzeling). Dat maakt een bijzonder proactieve

en constructieve facilitaire benadering mogelijk. Alle

goed gebouwde kantoormeubilairsystemen hadden

te lijden van een gebrek aan flexibiliteit; ofwel waren

problemen en functionele situaties die ze tegenkomen,

kunnen aanpakken. In dit opzicht is Metrix daadwerkelijk

een FACILITY MANAGEMENT-INSTRuMENT. Het dient

om dingen makkelijker te maken en om de oplossingen

dichter bij de problemen te brengen! Het vereenvoudigt

A TOOLBOX

The old quest for a universal solution (one-size-fits-all)

in fact does nothing for productivity: effectiveness and

efficiency at work benefit very little from the universal

approach. Metrix is a truly original concept of a ‘NEw

GENERATION’. It is a TOTAL CONCEPT, which takes

account of organisation, workers and tasks, whether

involving computers or otherwise. Its fundamental

modularity makes Metrix extremely flexible. The system

can therefore be adapted perfectly to the client’s needs,

with the best possible arrangement being chosen

according to the requirements of the client and users.

As a concept, Metrix is in fact a well-stocked toolkit.

Project management can be used to meet requirements

item by item. This makes a particularly proactive and

constructive facility approach possible. All well-built

office furniture systems have had a problem with lack

of flexibility. Either they have been too simple, offering

only minimal possibilities for variation so that the whole

set-up becomes monotonous, or they have been

too sophisticated to be implemented easily. Metrix is

modular in terms both of its different components and as

a whole, and as a result, the designers are able to tackle

any practical problem or function that they encounter

with this system. In this respect, Metrix is a true FACILITY

MANAGEMENT INSTRuMENT. It can be used to make

things easier and to bring the solutions closer to the

problems! It really simplifies people’s work. In this fast-

changing world, we should always be prepared to take

a fresh look at the status quo and we need to be able

to come up with quick answers to questions. Today’s

world is different, which is why the furniture that is made

for it is becoming different: easier computer access,

easier working environments for concentration, more

accessible shared/communal working environments,

better architectural and architectonic support, etc.: all of

these user requirements can be met with the Metrix Free

& Flexible modules.

La recherche d’une solution universelle (one-size-fits-

all) est stérile en termes de productivité : l’efficacité et

l’efficience opérationnelles ne s’en trouvent en effet

guère améliorées. Metrix est un concept réellement

De lange Metrix � tafels worden opgebouwd door

het toevoegen van modules die, op een universeel

modulair kader, tegen elkaar en rug-aan-rug worden

bevestigd. De structuur maakt intercalaire pootstellen

onnodig. De scheidingselementen zorgen ervoor dat

de medewerkers visueel van elkaar zijn gescheiden

en doen tegelijkertijd dienst als drager voor platte

schermen, kabeldoorvoer en paper management. De

scheidingswand vormt een technische zuil waarin de

energiekabels en de galvanische en vezeloptische

kabels voor de gegevensoverdracht zijn ondergebracht.

In de kantelkleppen worden de overtollige kabels

en de contactdozen van de kantoortoestellen veilig

opgeborgen doch blijven snel toegankelijk.

Les longues tables Metrix � sont composées par

l’adjonction de modules mis bout à bout et dos à

dos, fixés sur un cadre/panneau modulaire universel.

La structure rend inutile l’utilisation de pieds dans

les intervalles. Les éléments de cloison séparent

visuellement les collaborateurs et servent simultanément

de support aux écrans plats, de passage de câbles et

comme rail de paper management. La cloison forme

une colonne technique dans laquelle sont rassemblés

les câbles électriques ainsi que les câbles galvaniques

et fibres optiques. Les clapets basculants recueillent les

excès de câbles et, pour plus de sécurité, les boîtiers

de prises nécessaires à tout le matériel de bureau

sont masqués, tout en restant cependant facilement

accessibles.

The Metrix � long tables are made up by the addition

of modules placed end to end and back to back fixed

onto a universal modular frame-panel. The structure

obviates the need to insert sets of legs. The partition

elements visually separate the employees and at the

same time serve as supports for flat screens, as cable

housing and as paper management rail. The partition

panel forms a technical column that serves as a basis

for the power & cables and electronic and fibre-optic

cables for data transmission. The pivot flap top access

securely takes the excess cable and the socket casings

needed for all the desk office equipment, though these

remain quickly accessible.

met extra kabelgoot en klep, wordt opgehangen aan de

wand. De tafel is in de hoogte regelbaar van 680 tot

780 mm (CEN) en biedt een unieke stabiliteit.

The worktop (equipped with an extra top access cable

duct and flap) is suspended on the wall. There is also

the possibility of having a freestanding table in front of

the wall. The table top is adjustable in height from 680 to

780 mm (CEN) and offers unique stability.


FLATSCREEN DRAGER

Het gebruik van in de wand geïntegreerde profielen

laat de aanpassing van de positie en de richting

van een of meerdere platte schermen toe, geheel in

overeenstemming met de ergonomische normen: een

positie recht tegenover het scherm alsook een afstand

van het oog tot het scherm variërend van �0 tot 60 cm

maakt het schermwerk minder vermoeiend. Er zijn

diverse losse dragers beschikbaar voor flatscreens.

FLAT SCREEN SuPPORT

The use of studied panel profiles makes it possible to

adapt the position and orientation of one or more flat

screens, in accordance with ergonomic rules: position

facing the screen and eye-to-screen distance of

between �0 and 60 cm. Various independent supports

MECHANICAL HEIGHT ADJuSTMENT

The table with cable duct is suspended on the wall,

which ensures a highly structured arrangement. The

table is hooked on the wall by using a perforated box

profile adjustable in height from 680 to 780 mm. The

suspended desk top writing surface is supported at

the corners by two cylindrical legs, adjustable in height

by means of anodised aluminium rings (per �0 and/or

�0 mm). Freestanding panels are stabilised by supporting

feet. when the walls are connected, the supporting feet

give extra stability to the unit, so the cylindrical legs

in between can be omitted. This allows extra room

for movement. Result: the workstations remain neatly

arranged in the office landscape.

MECHANISCHE HOOGTEREGELING

Door de tafel met kabelgoot op te hangen aan de wand,

krijgt men een zeer vormvast geheel. Het inhaken van

de tafel gebeurt door middel van een geperforeerd

kokerprofiel, hoogte instelbaar van 680 tot 780 mm. Het

BENCHING

De verschillende Benches uit het METRIX-programma

laten ontmoetingen, communicatie en werk toe aan

één systeemtafel. Een tafel waaraan meerdere mensen

kunnen zitten, werken, overleggen en praten, wat ook

wel “Benching” wordt genoemd. De talrijke plug &

play aansluitmogelijkheden laten gebruiksvriendelijke

aansluitingen toe. De scheidingswanden kunnen

eenvoudig op de gewenste plek in lengte- en

dwarsrichting neergezet worden, en dragen bij tot de

juiste afstemming van visuele rust en privacy. De Bench

is voorzien van een dubbel kabelkanaal met twee

toegangskleppen waarin verschillende accessoires,

scheidingswanden en verlichtingsarmaturen kunnen

worden bevestigd.

BENCHING

Les différents Benches du programme METRIX

combinent rencontres, communication et travail

autour d’une seule table-système: une table à laquelle

plusieurs personnes peuvent s’asseoir, travailler, se

concerter et discuter, selon le concept du « Benching ».

Les nombreuses possibilités de connexion plug & play

permettent de se connecter facilement. Les cloisons

peuvent être placées à l’endroit voulu, en longueur et

transversalement, et contribuent à une intimité et un

isolement visuel adéquats. Le Bench est pourvu d’un

double chemin de câbles muni de deux clapets d’accès

permettant de fixer différents accessoires, des cloisons

et des armatures d’éclairage.

BENCHwORkING

The different Benches from the METRIX range combine

meetings, communication and collaboration at a single

systems table: one at which several people can sit,

work, confer and chat – activities better collectively

referred to as “benchworking”. The numerous plug &

play options make connecting devices easy. The desk-

top partitions are easy to set up in the desired position

both lengthways and across, contributing to the right

level of visual calm and privacy. The Bench has a two

lay-in cable ducts with access flaps in which various

accessories, cables, desk-top partitions and lighting

fittings can be secured.

CONFERENTIE TAFELS

METRIX-Bench : un look industriel caractéristique et

CONFERENCE TABLES

METRIX Bench: a characteristic industrial design with

infinitely modular configuration possibilities in the form

Confer Bench is a large table for conference, teamwork

and project discussion. The Bib Bench is usually used

for consulting documents in a closed library space

Infiniti Bench tables also enable compact desks to

be arranged to face each other in an unlimited series.

Employees can then connect to the network in limited

floorspace. The tables, which are suitable for meetings

and informal exchanges, can be personalised to suit

individual requirements, with movable separating

screens, lamps and accessories.

DIVANA

Divana: ook voor brainstorming en presentaties aan

kleine groepen. Het kantoor wordt meer en meer een

plek voor ontmoeting en communicatie. De Divana

lounge biedt een functionele oplossing voor de

ontspanningsruimtes en informele communicatieruimtes.

De Divana is opgebouwd uit modulaire bankelementen,

zodat verschillende vormen samengesteld kunnen

worden. De geluidwerende wanden met een hoogte

van ��00 mm en de comfortabele zetels vormen

een aangename en afgezonderde ruimte om

rustig te telefoneren, een kop koffie te drinken en

onderling te overleggen. De Divana past zeer goed in

METRIX �

Metrix � – Soundbox panel system is een modulair

systeem van scheidingswanden. Metrix � is verkrijgbaar

in een ruim aanbod van kleurige stoffen, houten

akoestische en metalen geperforeerde akoestische

panelen. Het gamma bestaat in verschillende breedtes

(600, 800, �000, ��00 en �600) en in � hoogte-

uitvoeringen (��00, ��00).

Metrix � - Soundbox panel system est un système

modulaire de cloisonnement. Metrix � est disponible

dans un large choix de coloris de tissu, de panneaux

métalliques et bois acoustiques perforés. La gamme

comprend de nombreuses largeurs (600, 800, �000,

��00 et �600) et � hauteurs (��00, ��00).

Metrix � - Soundbox panel system is a modular

partitioning system. Metrix � is available in a wide range

of fabric colours, wooden acoustic and perforated

acoustic metal panels. The range includes numerous

widths (600, 800, �000, ��00 and �600) and two heights

(��00, ��00).

Soundbox


The principle of a sound-absorbing panel acting as

a soundbox is straight forward: a perforated wooden

or metal panel with a pattern of apertures chosen to

capture the incumbent sound-waves offering a given

degree of transparency to sound.

A soundbox thus catches the sounds and reverberates

only a limited amount of sounds, it then works as a

perfect sound absorbing device improving the acoustic

comfort in the offices. The result of sound absorption

capacity is expressed in Alpha-Sabine units of maximum

volume � (alpha absorption).

The sound is a mechanical vibration travelling in waves

producing a sensation in the organs of hearing. The

sound reverberation by hitting a solid surface gives

the effect of resonance which a soundbox reduces

effectively. The perception of sound is limited to a range

of �0 to �0.000 Hz (audio-frequencies).

If sound reverberation is slowed down with sound-

absorbing materials within an efficient soundbox,

resonance is avoided. Speech sounds are less

distinct and less audible so the conversations stay

confidential.

Structure Connectivity Acoustic

Het principe van een geluidsabsorberend paneel dat

als klankkast fungeert, is eenvoudig: een geperforeerd

houten of metalen paneel met een patroon van

openingen, gekozen om de aanwezige geluidsgolven

te absorberen, waardoor een bepaalde graad van

transparantie aan het geluid gegeven wordt.

Een klankkast vangt dus de geluiden op en kaatst

enkel een beperkte hoeveelheid geluiden terug. Ze

werkt dan als een perfect geluidsabsorberend toestel,

waardoor het akoestisch comfort in de kantoorruimten

verbetert. Het resultaat van het geluidsabsorberend

vermogen wordt uitgedrukt in eenheden Alfa–Sabine

van maximum volume � (alfa-absorptie).

Het geluid is een mechanische vibratie die in golven

beweegt en een sensatie in de gehoororganen

produceert. De klankweerkaatsing door een vast

oppervlak te raken geeft het effect van resonantie dat

een klankkast effectief reduceert. De geluidswaarneming

is beperkt tot een bereik van �0 tot �0.000 Hz

Indien de klankweerkaatsing vertraagd wordt door

geluidsabsorberende materialen binnen een efficiënte

klankkast, wordt resonantie verminderd. klanken

worden onduidelijk en minder hoorbaar zodat

panels can easily be unclipped if you want to change
