The technique for hand washingmust be carried out thoroughly and for a time period sufficient toinactivate the virus - minimum of 20 seconds. Where no running water is available or hand hygiene facilities arelacking, colleagues may use hand wipes followed by alcohol basedhand sanitiser and should wash their hands at the first availableopportunity. Uniforms should be laundered: separately from other householdlinen; in a load not more than half the machine capacity; at themaximum temperature the fabric can tolerate, then ironed ortumbled-dried. Paper towels should be provided. Touching faces (particularly eyes, nose and mouth) with uncleanhands should be avoided wherever possible. A disposable tissue should be used when coughing and/orsneezing then disposed of immediately, preferably into a closed,lidded bin.

Consideration must be given to potential delays in emergencyservice response due to current pressures on resources.
