1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this method statement is to portray the safety guidelines and best

procedure for this task at NAOC LAND AREA LOCATION -OB/OB AND EBOCHA OIL

CENTRE.

5.0 WASTE SEGREGATION AND PACKAGING

Contractor’s waste team shall bring the semi-segregated wastes collected from various

areas on site to the temporary dumpsite where proper segregation and packaging will be

done jointly by the Contractor’s team and that of waste Subcontractor.

Wastes such as cartoon, paper, cans/ containers, glass bottles, polythene bags,

floaters, rags, wood dust shall be properly packaged in waste bags before transporting to

the final dumpsite.

Food wastes, waste oil, contaminated soil and oil filters are contained in drums, scrap

metals; wood wastes are always loaded into trucks before disposal. Waste such as grits

are contained in poly propylene bags before disposal.

Both Contractor’s and Subcontractor’s Waste Team shall be properly dressed with the

required PPE.

Personnel shall be advised to rest at intervals during the operation to combat work stress.

Drinking water to be provided and worker to take rest breaks during hot weather in the

shield.

The personnel shall be advised not touch his /her face ,smoke ,eat or drink unless you

he washed his hands and face with soap and water and change out of contaminated

clothing before eating , drinking ,smoking.

6.0 METHOD OF WASTES LOADING.

The loading shall be supervised jointly by the Contractor’s Environmental Coordinator

and the Subcontractor’s Supervisor and Safety Officer

Personnel shall ensure that loading of the truck will not exceed the weight of the truck to

avoid truck overturning on transportation.

Correct positioning shall always be ensured by waste handlers.

Only competent trained personnel to carry out Loading and Unloading operations.

All tools and equipment to be checked before work starts.

Personnel shall ensure that manually lifted loads do not exceed his lifting capacity and

such loads shall be lifted jointly.

7.0 WASTES TRANSPORTATION

A certified operator shall be provided whose has knowledge of the route and able to read

traffic signs (SPDC certified driver is preferable).

IVMS shall be installed in the truck by the Subcontractor to checkmate the speed of the

truck operator.

Operator shall comply with the project approved routes

Proper journey management shall be ensured by the Subcontractor’s truck operator

putting into consideration ETA and ETD

Always cover the truck with tarpaulin or plastic Nets to avoid flying off of lights from waste truck during transportation.
