BERTOLOTTI is specialised in customized logis-
tic systems for iron & steel, foundry and forge
industries.
Whether for transportation, warehousing or pack-
ing applications, we supply individual solutions
and systems aimed at making production more
effective by improving the material flow, mini-
mizing the disruptions for maintenance, maxim-
ising the technical availability of the facilities
and most importantly preserving the product's
quality.
Our design is based on the following milestone
concepts:
equipment based on standard design concepts
and components (commercial off-the-shelf) but
tailored for specific application;
excellence of safety devices for personnel pro-
tection;
long lasting and reliable are characteristics of
the equipment with reduced maintenance require-
ments and costs;
automation systems geared by failsafe and
redundancy concepts;
robust construction and high safety factor-based
design of structural frameworks, drive systems
and motion groups.

we tailor our systems to suit our customer’s needs and specific circumstances
Standardisation of the parts i.e. spares inven-
tories held to a minimum.
The equipment is designed to require mini-
mum lubrication and maintenance. Whererever
possible, “sealed-for-life” components and
centralised lubrication systems shall be pro-
vided; where this is not practical, facilities

exchange as well as product identification,
overall and detailed visualisation, tracking and
communication with the upper level informative
systems.
The result is improved management of invento-
ries and data, increased production levels, bet-
ter service and value for the ultimate client.
Along with a stronghold on mechanical and
hydraulic fluid disciplines, a continuously grow-
ing importance is being gained by automation in
the field of logistics and packaging systems.
Our design team has knowledge, competence
and experience of the various technical solu-
tions for power transmission and signals
Feasibility studies are also commonly com-
plemented by simulations, allowing the overall
dynamic testing of the complete facility against
assumed operational conditions, thus tailoring
the architecture of our systems.
A technical-commercial proposal always fol-
lows a detailed project analysis with identifi-
cation of the criticalities, and appropriate
dimensioning of the machinery and systems.
The result is a thorough technical specification
with risk assessment, general arrangement
layouts and an economical evaluation.

BERTOLOTTI Spa creates a range of
highly developed coil movement systems
that use self-moving or self-guided cars
on tracks and are based on the latest
and safest control and command tech-
nologies.
The system is modular and every car
moves autonomously on predefined rou-
tes and respects stops and speed limits
on the basis of a production program
and according to the conditions and
relevant obstacles along the route. Future
enlargements and alterations are there-
fore always possible.
coil handling
A central control system coordinates every
single vehicle’s operations (missions), in pro-
portion to the flow of material. The communi-
cation system (based on 802.11X WiFi stan-
dard) permits a continuous real time exchan-
ge of data and instructions between the cars
and the central control system.
The safety of people and things is ensured
by a laser technology scanner which is able
to register an obstacle up to 15 metres away
and to cause the vehicle to stop, as well as
by anti intrusion barriers. Every car has auxi-
liary functions, depending on its uses, such
as the vertical movement of the coil which is
centred along the longitudinal axis in relation
to a fixed support.
BERTOLOTTI creates movement systems
which are perfectly integrated with the pro-
duction and consumption plants and with the
pre-existing movement machinery, be it
manual or automatic.
A computerized system allows the real time
tracing of every shifted product, allowing a
remote operator to observe, analyse and con-
dition the evolving situation. The computeri-
zed system is integrated with the client’s
various production management systems
which are based on the commonest databa-
ses (Oracle, MySql, SQLServer).
BERTOLOTTI undertakes the definition of
coil logistics, the analysis of optimum oper-
ation sequences, the rationalization of
material flow, and the supply of all neces-
sary equipment including automation and
specialised prototype machines.
The customer's layout constraints are
accommodated by our proposal and the
existing equipment is integrated into our
overall safety system so as to guarantee
the security of operators and the integrity
and improved life of the machinery.
This includes the appraisal of all dangerous
conditions and subsequent identification of
equipment, sensors, strategies and proce-
dures to offset all existing critical factors
conveying, handling, storage
and ensure 100% safe working conditions.
The safety system may incorporate solu-
tions to prevent collision with any unfore-
seen hindrance and to warn personnel who
might accidentally get on the run-way,
reducing the speed of the moving equip-
ment and automatically bringing it to a stop
if the obstacle is not cleared away.
Facilities are designed and built to suit the
harsh working conditions which are nor-
mally encountered in the steel industry.
All systems are fully inclusive of the auto-
mation technology necessary to control
transfer, handling, supervision tasks and
storage management.

BERTOLOTTI Spa creates automatic systems
for the storage of coils, the movement of
which is mainly aerial and is entrusted to an
unmanned bridge crane.
The core of the management system is a sof-
tware that analyses in real time the confor-
mation of the warehouse and optimizes the
positioning of the coils on the basis of size,
weight and expected storage time. This
increases the efficiency of the movement
system, especially in two or three story
warehouses: the algorithm reduces the num-
ber of unpaid and unnecessary movements
for the collecting of the exiting coils.
Each bridge crane has a three-dimensional
surveying system which allows the geome-
trical mapping of the warehouse. The compa-
rison between the plotted map, and the one
calculated on the basis of memorised data,
allows the immediate recording of positional
errors, therefore avoiding misplacements and
the need to reposition data manually.
The successful integration of the control
system with the client’s production manage-
ment systems is guaranteed by the use of
standard applied development software tools
such as SqiServer, MySql, Oracle and Visual
Studio.
The basic architecture for the management of
the warehouse is created through a server
system on which the relevant data is stored and
the management algorithms are performed.

A series of remote client work stations enable an operator to
control and influence the operations on the basis of a data
access permission system.
The safety of people and things is entrusted to laser scanning
systems, that are both fixed to the ground and on the bridge
cranes. These systems allow an accurate and reliable inspec-
tion of the operative areas and block the mobile elements in
case of an intrusion or in the presence of an obstacle.
The products are handled with great care, especially during
collection and storage. This is possible thanks to an accura-
te alignment between the gripping system and the product.
An accurate positional recording system and a newly con-
ceived anti-swaying system, as well as the regulation of the
speed of vertical translation, diminish the possibility of colli-
sions that could damage the product.
packaging lines

cated 'stations' where manual packaging acti-
vities are carried out, or automatic machines

coil-eye strapping machines;
paper/plastic feeding and winding machines;
stretch film wrapping machines.

('tracking') and linkage with the production
management system;
on-line remote diagnosis and assistance.

mer's needs.
our product range also includes:
Packaging facilities are included in the overall
logistics concept to increase the productivity and
efficiency of the packaging department.
Up-stream and down-stream equipment and
necessities, packaging type and required capac-
ity are pillars of the system’s structure; optimally
organising material flow and speeding-up of
packing tasks are key objectives.
The customer's layout constraints are accommo-
dated into our proposal and the existing equip-
ment is integrated into our overall safety system
so as to guarantee the security of operators and
the integrity and prolonged life of machinery.
This includes the appraisal of all dangerous con-
ditions and the subsequent identification of
equipment, sensors, strategies and procedures
necessary to offset all existing critical factors
and ensure 100% safe working conditions.
The facilities are designed and built to suit the
harsh working conditions which are normally
encountered in the steel industry.
All systems are fully inclusive of automation
technology to control transfer, handling, auto-
matic packing tasks and data management.
